The Damage Report (if, in any way... any)
I fixed the problem before I screwed it up even more

The problem is fixed. For three painful hours early evening last night, I was overwhelmed with heavy sadness and guilt that I had possibly ruined my computer. The problem is that all the pictures/images of Windows stopped loading. So basically everything was just text, and regular windows. I had surfed nearly a hundred websites searching for information and support for whatever the hell was happening to my PC. I conducted three or four scans with those system repair kits. All turned out fine, I mean there wearn't any errors anywhere. I hit a site that suggested to restore the system registry. God knows what will happen If I had done that. Instead, I went offline and investigated "Recent" system files that have accidentally been changed. In the windows directory that would be win386.swp. I thought this was the cause of it all because it's always the most recently "used" system file. It turns out this win386.swp is the system file that projects images or loads images. And I found out this file grows and shrinks naturally. I was just seconds from restoring the system registry (which would destroy some of my program settings and applications)... but then I find the system file in charge of the Username "Gputz PHQ" was mysteriously updated at exactly the time the problems all started. That was it.

I decided, maybe all this file needs is a refresher. It needs to be restored. This is probably the settings file for my Username on Windows. It must've accidentally corrupted to not show pictures. I tested it out by asking my brother to log into his user "The Original Sari Sari Store" (sheesh)... all the images there were perfectly showing as if nothing's wrong. Well that's just it. Nothing is wrong. Only some dumb mishap in my user, and not the whole computer. No wonder nothing was picked up with all the scans I did.

So I return to my user, and go to [Control Panel] and then [Users]. There I decide I have to make some kind of change to my Username. Like, for example, change the password. I guess I would change the password. I did. I went to the desktop. The naked desktop, the folders without "Generating previews" loading, the internet i went on with images not loading... everything was gone. I hit [REFRESH] by right clicking the desktop, and everything came back instantly.

It could have been worse. I could have deleted my whole username thinking it's not repairable. I could have restored the system registry. I could have fiddled more with system files and crash the computer.

I fought off my first virus (haptime) in Mid May 2002 and now I've restored some corrupt file before I could have wrecked the computer.
