Some talk about Minority Report and other stuff that night
I caught the movie last Thursday night at Robinsons Imus. I was with Lance, my Roomie and friend from High School... and Apple and William who are two new friends from DLSU-D in my block. We arrived late already and the movie was already half done. We entered the movie at the scene where those spider things were searching for Tom Cruise's character, and Tom was blindfolded.... "huh?".
Somewhere in the movie I had enjoyed seeing the technology of the day. It's great how the great Mr. Spielburg himself visualizes the year 2054. It's believable alright. If we imagine how it was in the 1950s to today... we can picture today compared to the 2050s. I calculated next to William... that we still have a chance at seeing "the day"... although we'd be 69 or 70 years old by then. Damn.
Imagine the Philippines by then... 156 years old and probably wrapping up EDSA IX. Sorry to be mean, ha. I want to see how Jeepnees, Baby Buses, and Tricycles look by then.
The movie featured a simple storyline. Many say it's predictable, but this predictablity is something people shouldn't really care about.
We finished the movie at 7:20pm and had to wait till 8:00pm to catch the start of the movie which we missed. Add the fact that Lance, myself, and Apple have to return to DLSU-D before 9pm or face a critical curfew violation. So I was nervous as I looked at my Cellphone and the time while William, Apple, and Lance watched the start of the movie calmly. We had watched about 40 minutes of the start and it was around 8:40pm and 20 minutes to get back to campus which would actually be another 30 minute ride.
40 minutes into the movie from the start was enough to connect the dots to what we started with earlier, which was the latter half. So we missed the middle of the movie all in all. We left and the mall was already closed. I wanted to take out some Whopper Jr. meal with extra Onion Rings yet... well, the mall was closed early and it was just 8:40pm.
The spirit of the year 2054 followed me down and even across the overhead pedestrian crossing in front of Robinsons Imus. Even in the Jeepnee my thoughts were still in the movie. The small telephone piece, the television screens, even what the people wore. The most futuristic part I remember seeing was the vehicles which prevent traffic.
So now there are four movies of recent day which maturely show off how the future might look like. The 6th Day, with the cars with auto-drive and the technology of cloning. Bicentennial Man, which shows architecture and art of the future. The Imposter (?), from the trailers for me only... with those buildings and skyscrapers in what, the 2070s? And of course, Minority Report, with the slick styles of the next generation "50s". I outta make this a poll question back at www.charmedph.com to make me catch up to post counts.
Lance and I arrive safely in the middle of the night (9:15pm) at the main gate. The gates aren't closed yet!! And when we arrived some night class students were leaving the campus through the gate so Lance and I entered without much of a commotion. Inside the campus, it was now relief. No more rush here, rush there... it was just that lonely walk across the dark street. There's so much this school could show during the night (e.g. the Church, Museum, Gardens, La Buena Comida), but yet they really turn all the lights off except the ones on the street.
We arrive back into the Residential Area and find lots of our neighbors outside and roaming about exchanging "weights" or dumbells. I felt weird, I mean, I do have one pair of dumbells located inside of our dorm room but I haven't used them once these past three weeks of dorm life.
Lance played Chess with the guard, when suddenly one of our fellow neighbors accidentally broke a water pipe which left all rooms further down from the broken pipe without water. I heard it was the 2nd time it happened, and Lance's chess game was interrupted as the next 45 minutes was chaos trying to control the busted pipe and bursting water...
