Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Week #12
NOTE: this is a post that is made prior to moving back to the dorm and is usually posted on sunday nights.
Before I speak about the Midterms this incoming week, I would like to add something from this weekend. Last Friday night, Lance (my room mate, high school friend) and I went to Nikki's house (one of the group of seven, bryan's girlfriend) down the road. There we slept overnight since the curfew would reject our re-entry to DLSU-D.
We caught up with the DLSU-D Shuttle Bus (my first time) with Basil and Joel to get off at Waltermart and eat at the newly constructed KFC. We ordered the new "Hot Shots" after standing in line for 20 minutes. After we ate, Basil and Joel went back to La Salle as Lance and I commuted to the Bayan. I bought the Nuevo family a box of half-a-dozen donuts. It was also my first time to see the DasmariƱas Bayan. It was night time... the Jollybee was there. Where my classmate Ate Jo works at. The place reminded me of Cavite City at night. I said that to Lance.
We took a tricycle to Metrogate's back gate. There, we got dropped off in front of Nikki's house to where she greeted us outside. I smiled as I saw her again and handed the plastic with the box of donuts to her. We headed inside and was greeted by Denise (transferred to a different high school), Ate Dona (UP also, 2nd year), and their parents.
We spent the evening basically talking and hanging. I read Nikki's Culture Crash as Lance txt'd and kept busy. Nikki had a Xerox-binded book for her English. I think Bryan called or was supposed to call from the states.
We slept over and on Saturday morning we woke up to a few games of Monopoly. That old classic game got my journal title of Saturday to be "Monopoly at Metrogate". We started off with house rules by Lance. Than we played one where we all made rules. I came up with one to remember Bryan (who is in the states) which was... as all three of us rolled the dice, at the end of every round we would roll one for Bryan. We would have a character for Bryan and if any of our characters landed on his box, we would collect 50 dollars extra.
However, Nikki kept on losing money fast and kept on ending up in Jail. Added with Lance's often extremely focused attitude, she quit. The two spoke for a while in the back about the Monopoly mystery as I nearly fell back asleep in the living room. I suggested we played according to the rules this time and switch our seating arrangements at the table to see if it has anything to do with going to jail. What I mean is, Nikki's seat at the table seemed to have brought her to jail. Lance sat in her seat this time and he went to jail in the real game. I sat in Lance's seat and Nikki was in my seat.
This game was nice. It was a long one too, about an hour and a half long. We all went near bankrupt so we started to Morgage, than we'd earn money. My pick up at DLSU-D (30 minutes away) was at 1pm and the game ended at 1:30pm. I was in a panic rush at the same time I dream't of establishing a Hotel on Ilinois Avenue. I placed my 4th house down and the next move brought me to a Community Chest. I picked up the card and it told me pay 40 dollars per house in the game!!! I had the most money and most promising looking future in the game when suddenly I was crashed... I had to pay about 1,500 dollars to repair the other houses. I tried to morgage but it would be short of 1,500. At the same time, we were already running late. So I had to quit.
We returned to our dorm and arrived at 2:30pm, an hour and a half late with my cousin who's picking me up waiting there. Lance and I couldn't open the door to our room for 30 minutes because the doorknob disconnected from the metal thing that keeps the door closed. My cousin, the hero always, fixed it and I rushed to get my things out of embarassment to my cousin.
Lance decided to commute to SM instead of ride with me. He's going to buy a gift for his mom cause it was her birthday last Saturday. We took the Trece Martirez way instead and arrived home at 4:10pm.
To add thoughts to the state of my hometown of Tanza, Cavite... it's that the town is gearing up again for the Town Fiesta. It's always widely celebrated that affects my High School. The Town Fiesta is on Wednesday, during my mid-terms... so I won't be attending this year. In the past two years, it's been running down the streets with High School friends... visiting high school friends' houses... the rain at the Carnival... JD (HS friend, now in Missouri, USA) and I where on that one spinning thing and it was raining hard. Chope (HS friend, studies at DLSU-D but I haven't seen him in 2 months now) and I running from the angry wooden Bulls/Toros shooting dangerous firecrackers and pyrokinetics at you. The food here and there, the many parades and processions, the many stalls and stores that come into town in tents and sell everything from Pots and Pans to cheap Hats, Shirts... to Posters and customized name keychains.
This incoming week is a pivotal point in my early College Life. It's a clash between my Academic achievements of childhood and my Academic laziness of high school. The result will gradually affect my organizations. If I pass all of my subjects, my organizations steer clear of danger. If I fail any subject, some of my organizations enter a dangerous path.
Other than organizations, my grades will also balance in on everything else. If I pass all my subjects, It will balance my satisfactory Prelim grades and boost them higher. If I fail a subject, it will make the Finals in October extremely harder. The Midterms this week can build or break relations with professors. I want to repair an already negative-impression my Ecology Professor has on me, this by passing her Exam with honors. I want to build a steadily increasing grade in Algebra.
On Monday it will be normal classes from 1-5pm. I'm going to organize Reviewers and other sorts as well as get my blue with red ink Examination Permit. On Tuesday it's JOU1-1's "Sining ng Kommunikasyon" exam, but I don't need to take that one. I take my Filipino exam on Saturday. Since "Sining" is the only test on Tuesday, it renders that day as a "Free Day" for me to study hard for Algebra and Kasaysayan.
On Wednesday up until Saturday, it's exams. Wednesday is lined up with Literature and Algebra. The latter in which I am trying to concentrate on with great effort. On Thursday it's Ecology and Kasaysayan. The latter in which I am greatly worried about due to it's unending tagalog-content. On Friday it's Religious Education (Re-Ed) and Psychology. Both of which are generally simpler than the others, but combined with any form of Procrastination- could be a deadly way to a fatal grade. And on Saturday it's an exam on Foreigners' Filipino.
I'm going to study because the results will shape the course of the remaining 1st Semester. If the results are positive, I'm on a more prosperous route. If the results are negative, I will be repeating High School and living each day and each week with absolute misery.
Please pray for me to be able to concentrate well this examination week. Thank you.
