FAMILIAR FACES IN THE NEW ISSUE OF THE HERALDO
A mid-week report on my DLSU-D life

I've submitted two feature articles to the Heraldo Filipino. I felt free like a racoon in a forest when suddenly I was taken in to an Animal compound and locked. Uh, I mean... the Circulations or Managing Editor tossed me into the HF Research Team to work on researching for all the issues and the history of the school paper even before it was a school paper. *Buffy/Angel Growl* (Urrrg... Arrrg.)

In VPAPU, there's nothing much to do. Fellow Probees made a calendar and yesterday some of us ate out at Brejanah Cafe (Lance and Joel with me) after a meeting. That seems to be it.

The AB COMM CHANNEL which has been shooting and filming this week has kind of flapped it's wings away from me. It's my fault. It's not that I'm quitting or getting kicked out, I didn't do anything bad. It's just my position as Researcher and Asst. Segment Producer isn't in the mainstream such as the Hosts or the main Producers, etc.

I'm surfing with my VPAPU probee friend Myzza (2nd year Psychology student). For the first time, she taught me how to double-log-in at ERS. Meaning, it's the 3 o'clock batch now. And while the 4 o'clock signs up, she told me to throw myself into that line too during the last 10 minutes of the original hour. Meaning, I'm going to be here for another hour but surfing from #103 instead of #25....

***

I'm now at #103. Like earlier, Mhai and I are split. We're not next to each other. She's in #102 and across the walkway. Oh well.

Other news? The USC President, Jay Olle, will be Joel's (closest friend in the dorms) and Kurt's (gots the hots for Lani from HS) new room mate. Replacing Deo, who was verbally abused for speaking english. One of the two feature articles I submitted for the LaSalleƱo involved the story of prejudice against English-speaking Filipinos or Balikbayans in our University.

So if Jay Olle moves in, that would mean if the University President were to have big speeches, appear in campus posters, do shows, etc.... my very own friends Joel and Kurt could yell out "That's our Room mate!".

It's getting wild. I'm going to say it now. But there's a series of theft happening in our dorms. We already have a suspect and everyone agrees. I won't further on that for confidential reasons. Anyways, none of my things are missing. I keep my stuff safely locked. However, the missing amount totals to P50,000 pesos. Not in hard cash, but to added value of certain items. Tom's cellphone in F8, Sharif's (who has been absent this past week probably because he's too upset) pricy camera from F5, Kurt's 5-digit shades in F11, down to several Pre-Paid cards the twins Davies and Paul of F2 have. We have our suspect, we just need proof. I'm personally shocked at this person. It's no one in our room, F3. We're all keeping our cool.

Poor Jay Olle.

Anyways, other happenings? We had non-stop quizzes this morning. My mind-numbing 3-classes in a row from 7 to 11:30am this morning all had quizzes in them. Again, in Ecology, the professor is getting the worst angle of me. I blame it on where I sit. I sit far from the board and in the far back and in the corner. I can't concentrate and I feel more like a class observer than a member of the class from 7 to 8:30am.

Ecology? I mean, dapat kaya ko iyan. Kaso lang, ang hirap salikod. Sheesh. I need to fix myself.

In Kasaysayan, my professor is in the front page of our latest broadsheet release from Heraldo. She's excellent in her projection of voice, but it's always non-stop. Laging tuloy-tuloy ang usap niya. Walang seatwork (kanina lang binagay, first time nga) ... laging "punta kayo sa Stall #3 at kuhanin ninyo ang bagong xerox/module".

If we stock up on the Xerox' I get from a typical Wednesday and Friday (identical subject times)... we can bind three books already. There's just so much. She's an awesome professor though. She deserves a large lecture hall as seen in colleges on television shows or movies.

In Psychology, we screamed for "POWDER" or to continue the movie we watched last Friday in Psychology that we never finished. We are to do a reaction report on it relating it to our latest lessons.

Earlier this afternoon we had our weekly meeting at 1pm (during University Break, U-Break) in Heraldo. We all did a general review of the recently released LaSalleƱo and Heraldo Filipino broadsheet. It was interesting. At the same time I went to review past issues of the HF in their archives. Interesting issues of yesteryear... well, not as great as recently. The paper back then looked all "old", with the layouts looking like the 80s. Well, if anyone from HF reads this... i'm not saying anything bad. I'm just commenting on how I saw the papers. I'm sure all those past editors and writers worked real hard back then so kudos is out to all of them.

Mhai just left because she doesn't know where her wallet is. I'm now at ERS by myself, like I had originally planned. Mhai only met me outside at the line. You know what? She shaped my day. If I never met her, I would have used my original hour and by now I would be alone in my dorm room. Yet she kept me here for two hours, and when I get out I can meet Joel in front of OSH.

That seems to be it so far. Quizzes tomorrow in my Thursday line-up of classes. I'm going to study tonight and tomorrow morning.

TITLE IN REVIEW: In the latest issue of the Heraldo Filipino, I'm surprised to know that I'm connected with the issue even If I don't have any article directly published in it. First of all, the things I got published somehow in there was my interview of two IEE students for the Aphony Ends section. Next, Eric Salta... my Broadjourn classmate and friend in class, a fellow training-member of HF... has this amazing article published entitled "Style or Substance" found in the Staffer's Corner. I joined my classmates and Maycee as we cheered him on! Go broadjourn! Next, on the front page the main picture has two people in it. A girl and a guy reading the new student hand-book. The guy in that picture is our dorm neighbor in F7, Joseph!! He walks into our room every now and then. It doesn't end yet. Inside, a black and white picture of Mr. and Ms. Freshmania on stage... (better than mine since mine was from the side). Candy is in that picture! Finally, in the very back in the sports section and in the colored picture of varsity running down the field in front of the incomplete Grandstand is Jo-am, another dorm neighbor just next door in F4!
- Familiar faces in the Heraldo Filipino issue this week, indeed.
