COUP DE GLORIETTA'T
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Year 2 - Starting Week #08
Background Music: "You and I Both" by Jason Mraz
NOTE: A Weekly post made before moving back into my Dorm in La Salle on Sunday nights.
MY dad is returning abroad this Thursday night. It ends a two-month vacation from his job as working for the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC). The past two months, the house has taken great shape. The exterior walls have been painted. The living room and dining room areas are now complete. Interior walls have been painted. And just this past weekend, we finished installing the French-door-style Sliding doors for the west terrace that faces the lawn.
The biggest thing to me, though, is when he bought a brand new CR-V. It sounds like we payed for it the moment we bought it, but no! No way. We have to spend the next three years paying for that SUV. Instead of getting into that mosquito-infested piece of metal on wheels (the service owner vehicle), we can now ride inside the comfort of a Honda CR-V.
He's helped a lot this past year. My parents have also gone under new emotional stress since 2002. My mom has realized she has to be stronger and be a bit more independent. Right now, she's getting emotional again over dad's departure this week. And I hate the timing of it all, because I'm also in conflict with her right now. I love you mom... you need to be stronger than ever before.
Currently things are a wreck still. But everytime I think about the problems a classmate of mine has... my problems shrink greatly compared to hers. But, to me, we all have our demons to face.
My dad will be going to San Diego for a round of physicals before he will be deployed again. We have no idea where this time. But if we can take a moment and recall where he was last time, he was in the Persian Gulf during the conflict in Iraq. He was in Guam when a super typhoon swept across. He was in Singapore during the SARS outbreak. Let's pray his next trip is normal. N-O-R-M-A-L, Normal!
He'll be gone for a minimum of four months. So, he'll be back this Christmas. Honestly though, I would prefer him to spend his vacation here during his 50th Birthday in January and also for my mom's 50th Birthday in February. It would be so lame for the two to be apart on such a momentous occasion. And if they're not planning it, I'll plan the celebrations. This is something not to be missed.
Paul, on the other hand, who I haven't been talking about in my blog much (sorry)... well, his girlfriend moved to beautiful New Zealand. Didn't I just mention my life is cinematic in a previous post?! New Zealand, baby! Talk about W-O-A-H, Woah! We've never been open about our lives when it comes to love. We aren't that close, but we're close when we blink our eyes at our parents during those family moments. At least he has a girlfriend... heheheh. ^_^
Nah, I'm not that kind of guy who'll die if he doesn't have a girlfriend. Guys have girlfriends to love and to cherish and to have besides them. Sigh. Guys have girlfriends who encourage them to study harder. Sigh.
I don't talk about my life when it comes to love here in this blog. Some might think it's because if I write something here about it, it'll be controversial. Well, half of that is true and I type that with a smile. The other half, well, I'm not hiding anything. Promise. I need to be sure first before I act. Unfortunately, having a girlfriend isn't a top priority in my first two half of undergraduate degree College Life. Unless... I'm madly, deeply, in love with someone.
It's nice to type about something different for once. I've been yapping, moaning, and complaining like a drunk bitch the past few weeks with these damn emotions. Please be excused by my language here, but I'm starting to get all mushy and feminine with my blog entries and I thought it's time to restore that masculine language that guys need to express themselves with.

Hahaha. This is actually fun. You guys are probably thinking I'm drunk or something since this CARPE NOCTEM post is sooooo lively and different. Well... I'm not... I'm not drunk anymore. I don't think I was ever drunk... like... forever. I'm just tipsy and my heart feels 2% different lately after two nights of light drinking.
DRINK MODERATELY!!
I'm still baffled by all the events of the past weekend. I'm not talking about the house, I'm talking about the country. Helloooo.... coup de e'tat?! OR... shall I say (like the title of this week's entry)... coup de glorietta't?! Hahaha. I was watching TV throughout the day since I was concerned. Super concerned... as in, sobrang concerned BECAUSE one of my best friends... JOEL... yeah... well, his dad is AFP Vice Chief-of-Staff... Mr. Rodolfo Garcia. So, I was watching the news hoping that Joel and his family were alright. His dad showed up on TV once... his dad was giving a press conference about disposed and ex-President Estrada being moved to Camp Aguinaldo as a precaution that this attempted coup de e'tat would be such a mess that ERAP could escape just like AL GHOZI did. Ang saya saya naman dito sa Pilipinas.
I've been hearing a lot of trash about this attempted coup. First of all, my opinion about it is that it is strikingly odd how a band of soldiers would attempt to do something of this magnitude. They are 300 against an over 110,000-strong Philippine armed forces.
However, there's this one guy that gave an interview to GMA-7 earlier stating that "these soldiers are constitutionalized... and they would not do something like this unless THERE IS A REASON.".
What the hell is the reason? As a college student studying the media and reading more and more about the events as they happen and in some cases BEFORE they happen... this is alarming. Is what they claim the truth? Former President Fidel V. Ramos (FVR) gave an interview on ANC earlier and if we add these things up... the MAGDALO are trying to reveal something.
NEVER take in the news on television as 100% of what is happening.
Whether or not they were trying to strike a point, doing so in potential violence and bloodshed not to add loss in valuable merchandise in such a prestigious mall and hotel... is wrong. That's where images of the Virgin Mary statue and images of Nuns appear at EDSA. We just pray that our nation will someday progress and all sectors go forward... whether who is right or who is wrong.
I don't support MAGDALO if that's what you're thinking. And I'm not the kind of journalist who's shifting into becoming an activist. As a reminder, I'm interested in joining the media to spread the good news and make that good news very strong and powerful.

Anyways, this incoming week has me conducting interviews of people relating to my articles... which I now count at six articles. Woah. I'm all up for it... it's just the setting of appointments and the interview letters getting signed and all... but hopefully I get it all done.
Midterms proper formally launch this week. I hope I get to meet the new recruits of both the AB Comm Channel and the Heraldo Filipino. A new generation is here, and let's see how I'll get to meet them. I'm both excited and nervous.

Here are the four pillars:
Academics. The midterms enters its 2nd week already. It's do or die now. I want to advance research if possible and start getting some solid improvements in recitation. And to recite is to read the lesson in advance. Yeah, that's it. Duh.
Heraldo Filipino. Several interviews that I hope I will be able to accomplish this week. The new apprentice staff will be interviewed and hopefully established this week. I hope my classmate and friend Kate Mamon will make it. Eric, Maycee, and I are wishing her good luck.
AB Comm Channel. I want to get to work on our segment... because it feels like the FINALS are looming around the corner and I want to advance our segment as best as possible with the help of the new Production Assistants (new members of the organization).
Dormitory. Last week it was like going home to the residential section of a big ship like the Titanic. I mean, the halls where completely drenched and the rains where so hard and it was so windy... it was like we were about to hit an iceburg. More dinner night outs with the tropa... and hopefully no more alerting incidents like what happened to Tony while in front of Red Ribbon in the rain and at night... when he collapsed there. Oh, and one more thing... I'm marching into InaZalle full force this week. Heheh.

A safe week to us all. Cheers.
