PERVERSIONS OF THE DEADLINES
The Damage Report - Year 2 - Ending Week #04
Background Music: "Senorita" by Justin Timberlake
NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.
AT least I saw most of my work off to get published. I've been writing and writing. And when I'm finished writing, I have to write more. That's been my life these past few weeks. Every night there's always something to worry about. Some deadline to meet. Some editor to work for. It made me sleep late nights. It made my heart skip a beat at one or two ambush interviews which I'm trying to avoid. And for countless days I saw my work being submitted... and from there who knows?
It was only this past week where I saw the fruits of thy labor. Just to see at least one article in it's final format in the layout would spark me to be inspired. Inspiration is something I've been lacking these past few weeks. No inspiration means no will to write. No will to write, means, well... it's like starving yourself in the profession I've chosen to take part in.
Anyways, not one... but seven! This is my personal record-breaking contributions to a publication of the Heraldo Filipino. I had three articles to Broadsheet Vol. 17 No. 4. I think all the stars and moons came together for the first Broadsheet of the year. I mean, Kuya JD had us do several Decreto articles. Then, they picked out my entry for Staffer's Corner for the new issue. Add to that my first contribution to Photo... a picture of three rooms of the men's dormitory. And two news articles. Haha. Now, I'm inspired to keep writing. Wait, and to top that all.
Maycee and I got promoted to Junior Staff! That makes all three of us (Eric is the first of course) from class as official staffers of the University's Student Publication. After one year of apprenticeship.
The thing is, it could all go away with the strict warning system our editors have installed. But now that I feel part of HF more than ever, and now that I've seen solid results from my efforts, I'm pushing through and willing to write the best articles I can ever come up with.

Anyways the past week involved more night outs with the tropa which with it came a chain of certain realizations and revelations. What am I talking about? Well, as much as blind items make me sick sometimes, I can say that I realized that the person I thought I was parallel with in terms of love of friends is literally parallel to me. We'll never cross since we both have our own definitions of things.
I did, however, get closer to the tropa. Even if Ben isn't around anymore... I did get to know both Abbie and Len more this past week. Len shared her life lately while Abbie and I exchanged conversations about almost anything.

Proofreading and layouting was done at the Heraldo Filipino and already by Thursday it was set to the presses to be published. I had deadlines to meet this past week for the first La Salleno issue due out later this month. My first article was about Islamic Jihad in the Middle East, but it seemed that my article focused on religious differences and Islamic Jihad. It's entitled "Perversions of Divine Will".
The other feature article is PERSONA and I was assigned to interview the infamous Mr. R. Santiago of the SocSci department and at the last minute, assigned to interview Dean Felicitacion Antonio. Woah.
My interview with Mr. R. Santiago, most likely future professor in Media Ethics or Logic, was the most awkward interview ever as a campus journalist. First of all, adjusting to his schedule and his meetings made me return to ERH several times, thus delaying the progress of the PERSONA article itself. Next, when the interview was set, the entire faculty room was noisy. After that, my own professor in Philippine Government and New Constitution, Mr. R.J. Estrada, was there in the office looking at me and I suddenly felt that he had expectations of me now that he sees me as a journalist in that office. And finally, the interview itself. Mr. R. Santiago didn't answer questions like "Are you married?" and "Choice of cuisine" which were meant to focus on my theme of the article "The part of the person that no student has ever seen before.".
Instead, Mr. R. Santiago insisted all his details be about his job, his career, and basically the life that most people already know about. No fun statistics. However, he did have one touching story about embracing a person infected with Leprochymy as his life's best experience. I need to double check on everything here because his educational background is pretty deep. He's been teaching for nearly 26 years.
On the other hand, "boss" Kuya Marthy (Features' Editor) suddenly txt'd in that the 2nd PERSONA would be Dean Antonio. Dean Antonio, Dean of Student Affairs. Dean of all things extracurricular? Well, whatever exactly it is, we've all known her to be the "Dean" on top of Heraldo Filipino and other major organizations in DLSU-D. She is booked with meetings all week so our interview is scheduled for Monday at 9am.

It was Badge's 18th Birthday on Tuesday. I gave her a bear and card in the evening. I didn't want her to carry the bear the whole day around campus, she would get tired. Haha.
Other highlights this past week would include on Washday Wednesday when I ate at Fiat with a bunch of my fellow dormers. And, I'm not talking about Lance and them... I'm talking about Dennyboy, R.K., Julius, and D.R. and company.
We watched "Incognito" for Art Appreciation and then for the second meeting of the week we went to MAH 101 to surf for the Art Appreciation paintings. Weird internet lab, it's better than the one in MAH 110... but I'm sure nothing will beat JFH 208 when we use that new room next week. That's our building!
It was perhaps a typical prelim week. It was sunny in the morning and afternoon and then the clouds would roll in and it would rain slightly before evening.
No Broadjourn Dormers' night out these past two weeks. Everyone seems to be busy these days including myself with the proofreading and layouting at HF.
Nothing new with the AB Comm Channel, perhaps next week.

A scrambled "The Damage Report" I know. It's just, all that work and all that writing has really made me tired. I want to sleep now. Good night!
