EYEBAGS OF THE PHARAOH
The Damage Report - Year 2 - Ending Week #14
Background Music:
"Officially Missing You" by Tamia

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.

IT hurt. Without doubt, it was the first time I could feel my eyes swolen and basically "throbbing" due to a week of sleeping extremely late (see "Rain, Frap, a Picture, and Spira" entry last week).

Where's the laundry?

Basically I moved in on Monday night, quite late. I arrived at the dorm just a few minutes before 10 o'clock in the evening. Unfortunately, the laundry shop closed early so I wasn't able to retrieve a bunch of uniforms, pajama shorts, sandos, and my favorite blue striped towel.

At first, I was confident I could survive without those uniforms. I mean, I do bring the rest of my laundry home. I still had two extra barong-polos and a chocolate brown slacks in my closet, so I could live.

But just then I realized I didn't have a towel. I don't have a towel! Not to add the condition of our bathroom is probably far worse than that of a public comfort room. Not to add the size of my bath soap was now the size of my thumb. Not to add that my Head and Shoulders shampoo bottle was about to go depleted. This, wasn't happening.

I ended up borrowing an extra towel from my room mate Alex. I fixed up my corner of the room. I worked on my assignment for Communication Theory and then I treated myself to two... three hours of Final Fantasy X before surrendering to the night.

7:49 AM Tuesday

Fuck... shit! I woke up 49 minutes late for my first class, thus triggering a personal record on amount of absences in any single College subject! 6 Absences!! One more foul and I'm outta it... really... out with a 0.0 FAILED in Speech and Oral Communication!! Bullshit!!

This past semester this is the most affected subject when it comes to tardiness and being absent. It's made me hate the "0700-0830" time period more than ever! Ever since 1st Year College, we start off at 0700 at least three a week! There's barely a 0830-1000 starter or a 1000-1130 starter... it's always 0700-0830.

I record my absences in my notebook and this absence was the 6 out of 7 possible absences before the student is qualified a prestigious 0.0, which would shatter anyone's dreams and wishes for a wonderful College record.

I barely made it to Communication Theory. I entered the room at 0835am and Ms. Sigari was already collecting the 1/4 Size Yellow Pad papers that the class just had a short quiz on. Fuck that too!

Our professor there is only being real. I bet she's the kind of professor that they have in DLSU-Manila, Ateneo, and UP-Diliman. The strict, sophisticated professor who knows exactly what she's doing and teaching to her students. As much as I'm glad we have her as a professor (it could be someone else), it's still embarassing to miss a quiz or disappoint any set standards she has of us... especially me. This is our first and only major subject this semester, and I can't even get a 2.0 to please her.

Film Viewing of Anak - Part 1

Well, things did lighten up after writing notes on Groupthink, the latest theory we're on in Comm. Theory. In Retorika, we proceeded upstairs to JFH 302 and watched the first half of "Anak" as part of our Film Reviewing. I'm up to it, but reviewing it in Tagalog... err.... uhhh... um... ugh.

It's fun watching it with my classmates. I was sitting next to teatro Arjay and to co-staffer Eric as he and Keith joked about Ate Jo being Vilma Santos. Ate Jo, the oldest person in our class and even older than our professor in Comm. Theory, laughed it out with the rest of us. Ate Jo's father recently passed away.

After the first part we made it out of the dim Speech Lab into the humid air outside JFH's 3rd floor.

My eyebags were killing me. I wanted to just collapse. I wanted someone to carry me back to the dorm. I wanted to just sleep all... sleep all day like Jason Mraz.

I made it to Constitution and listened in on the recitation and topics. Currently we're discussing about the Legislative Department of the government. I haven't been called yet.

And in Computer, we had a substitute who made us do this lame exercise on the "5 C's of being a Lasallian" on Powerpoint. Something a 1st Year High School student would do. I wanted to fancy it up and all but since my face looked so screwed up inside the dimmed laboratory due to the pain in my left eye, I just made a 2-slide presentation. "Christian... Compassionate... Competent... Committed... and Sleepless."

But wait, it wasn't even over yet.

Our PHED103 Midterm Practical, which the class was divided into five different groups, was to make up our own Egyptian dance steps. It would be held at the GDO... which is underneath that tower of steel bars, metals, sparks, and construction workers at the Grandstand.

Walk Like an Egyptian

I brought my Digital Camera and captured once again another moment of our block. This time, at GDO with the sun setting in the west shining through the windows of GDO.

Practicing the Egyptian.

Joy Andrea's group went first... a mishap happened at the end of their performance wherein Joy kept dancing after the rest of the group stopped at one point of the song which was the usapan Joy didn't get. The class laughed, and she laughed louder.

Unfortunately, we were the next to perform. I was positioned right in front of my other classmates who were in the audience so I was distracted by their voices! Haha. Our song was different from the default "Walk Like an Egyptian", that old 80s pop song that sounds baduy to me no offense to those who like it. Our song was Beyonce Knowles latest single after Crazy in Love, which is "Baby Boy".

The group grade was 98. The top grades belonged of course to Tintin, Joanna, Kate and them. I was satisfied with my 94. I'm not a dancer as much as I've always dreamt to be. *sad puppy face*

Wilda's group went and it was cute and well, cute in a slow kind of sense. They were very graceful... heh. Katz and Teenah's group to me was a personal favorite... Upper was so cute I took a special Video Clip of her zoomed in.

Charmagne and Endrea danced on behalf of their group, the rest they couldn't find anywhere. They borrowed "Baby Boy" from us and then danced. Charmagne did a real split (not the fake one) at the conclusion.

In front of the Grandstand...

We parted ways after taking a picture in front of the Grandstand, disregarding any possibilities a giant chunk of metal could come crashing down on us at anytime. I returned to my dorm room.

Rain and a Rosary

The tropa ate out at Inazalle and I was tempted to drink at least a bottle of San Mig Light and I told Mark to stop me just in case I would end up ordering. Well, instead, he insisted I drink so I was about to order a bottle but then gave up since there was a Rosary to be held at the E-House (lobby of the on-campus dormitory).

We entered La Salle and hung out at the Rotonda. I was suddenly telling Len about these green minded jokes about guys and Tony suddenly felt "offended" (by the look on his face) and told me "George, that's a guy thing. Why are you telling Len about it?!"

I joked there until the rest of us had to part ways from Len and head back down the long long street towards the dormitory compound. I arrived there but ended up not participating in the Rosary.

An hour passed and Mark and Abbie came by running in the rain. The two looked sweet running fast and laughing under the evening rain. To me, the two looked more sweeter together than having Lance or Aldrich pair up with Abbie. Ooops. Hehe. Biro lang. Jokes are half meant. Biro lang.

Gail was angry at the time since "Senator" Joel and "Bahrain-raised" Daryl were joking about Christianity in front of her as she prayed. Basil tried to comfort her.

We all returned to the dorms and the rains got harder. I had the Playstation 2 in my room for the week so I was relaxed there on my bed.

Slight stomach cramps

It was Wednesday and I was going to attend the Broadjourn Seminar from 10am to 1pm... but around 9am I woke up with slight stomach cramps. I ended up not attending the Broadjourn Seminar.

I made it to my Reed103 and we were given piles of newspapers of which we would shape into "Newspapers spreading the good news of the Church." I wasn't quite in the mood. No. Actually, I didn't have sizzors and paste or tape. Cindy and I joked "Basta, ibukasan natin yun paper and pretend we're working..."

It's just that our group didn't exactly have communication. Arjay was in the group and "directed" the way the paper could be constructed, and since everyone else was willing to listen instead of inputting their own individual ideas, we were silent workers.

After that, our prof in Art Appreciation wasn't around so everyone headed for the library for research work about Music Appreciation, our current lesson.

This has to be a great day

It's make it or break it. I woke up early and took a shower early and made it to the Speech lab together with Teenah, since she was passing by the Men's dorm when I was logging out. Cool.

I did my impromptu speech and my random topic was about "Relationships and Disappointments". After giving my answer and talking about it, I felt that what I said was cut-off. But according to Teenah, it was "well said" and "correct".

In Comm Theory we had a lecture about Groupthink and afterwards we were dismissed for break since Retorika (10-1130) was moved to (1130-1pm) for the continuation of the Film Viewing.

I headed out with the others and had take out at Fiat. I ate it with Badge and company at this one carinderia next to her boarding house. Since it was still early, I proceeded back into the campus.

Kate went to the HF but I wasn't up to that long long walk in the hot early morning, so I headed straight for the Speech lab and waited inside the air conditioned room with Kuya Gilbert, the technician there.

We finished up the movie "Anak" and was then dismissed. In Constitution we had continued recitation which ended with a cliffhanger for Kate Mamon and Eric Salta... they have to do extra research and answer a question Mr. R.J. Estrada asked. The proper answer would merit the entire class a bonus.

And finally, in Basic Computer, it was a lecture on Powerpoint followed by this lame Seatwork.

Classes dismissed.

I headed for the dormitory and got the giant card I was carrying around all day and I began searching for the others in the tropa. Unfortunately, they were no where to be found. I only got around five signatures and notes for Len by the time Len and Abbie came to the dorms to pick everyone up.

The entire tropa gathered and we headed to Pizza Hut to where Len treated everyone. It was like Part 2 of Abbie's birthday last June. Several tables combined at Pizza Hut... and once again it resembled that portrait of "The Last Supper".

MG Fan and Accountancy Genius Mark spares a moment to smile... wait, he always has a smile.

In front of me was Tony, to my left was John, to my right was Mark (as seen in the picture). We were served with a delicious Supreme Pizza and a Hawaiian Pizza. It was really delicious. I must've been extra hungry at that time, but I swear the pizza tasted better than before.

I was glad everyone (except Mikhail Talag) attended. I saw Len was happy and that made me even more happy.

Happy Birthday Len!!

We returned back to the dorms and I returned to playing FFX. By this point of the week, the pain in my swolen eyes had gone down.

Walk like an Egyptian... this time for real

Friday morning and I made it to PHED103 around 0940 hours. 40 minutes late but since it was at the GDO... I guess we could have some exceptions. I sat down in my seat just as she called on the attendance of my classmates who have a last name starting with the letter "O". I made it just in time.

After talking about costume changes (well, the original idea of the sexy slit was revived) the entire class went outside into the cement warehouse looking place and our instructor started teaching us the steps to the "real Egyptian dance".

The song is so damn fast! It scares me. The steps are so fast and exciting yet I keep messing up.

After class we went to Square Canteen and I ate Siomai's at Quiao Mao's Chinese Place. With me was Eric, Keith, and Kate. I returned to my dorm room and wanted to play FFX but Kyle just started watching a pirated VCD "Fear Dot Com" so I decided to watch. It stars Stephen Dorff and this one familar looking lady. "Freakish, bizarre movie... with two sliced thumbs up." is how I'd rate the movie.

In REED103 at 1430 hours, we had "Warrior is a Child" as the song to sing and then we had the by-group reporting about the newspapers. Mr. A. Sepeda explained more and class was dismissed.

And in Art Appreciation, Ms. C. Oliveros played over 30 samples of different music and we had this worksheet where we'd answer what images we see in our head and what we think of that music. That lasted quite some time and we were dismissed around 1740 hours.

I returned to the dormitories and even went to the E-House to see Tony and COM1-1 trying to practice something over there. Instantly it reminded me of JOU1-1 last year (that would be us) doing things similar to that. Haha.

After playing FFX for about an hour more at my dorm, I headed out with Tony and we tried to collect as many other guys to eat out with. The rest like Kevin, Karl, Aldrich and them... were all too busy playing Counterstrike. Yes, that game that's existed for an entire decade come this week.

BBQ, a Beer, at the Old Inazalle place

Kyle joined, so I was with the freshmen. We decided to walk down the University Avenue a few meters for Inazalle. The place was the most crowded! We ended up eating downstairs, which didn't bother me since we could hear this club music compared to this live singer upstairs. I wasn't in the mood for a live singer again.

Inazalle has gone through so much. I remember one year ago when I was with Judy of COM2-1 (she's from Jordan), that the place was simple and romantic with the candle in the middle. Few people go there. But look at it now. There are cars parked outside and the food prices went up and the choices grew. And they're serving light drinks like San Mig Light and Caramel Chill with a pinch of alcohol.

Classmate Jhen Arboleda and her orgmates from Teatro Lasalliana arrived. Classmate Athena was also there but Arjay and Tope wearn't. Jed of COM2-1 was also there.

I ordered an SM1 and an Iced Tea followed by one bottle of San Mig Light. I think I've now adjusted completely to drinking any kind of alcohol. I mean, one bottle before took nearly 10 minutes. Hahaha. But now, one bottle could be just two or three minutes. I want to try bottoms up though. I got to get used to the taste muna. I've 80% adjusted to the taste of beer... just a little bit more before I down a whole bottle non-stop... and perhaps graduate for a Red Horse or something.

Sleepy, Stormy Saturday

We left and I played FFX until 4am Saturday morning. The weather outside was cloudy and rainy. I woke up around 1230nn and Tony, who was sleeping on my bed (I slept on Alex's deserted bed) was no where to be found... he went to practice I guess.

Lance came in and played Dark Cloud for a few minutes and then my pick-up came. Kuya Jhong was back to drive for the first time in a long time. Lance let me borrow his PS2 with FFX.

We were dropped straight to the bayan in Tanza and attended Church, 20 minutes late. Then, after church, I had a long-awaited haircut at the SM Barbershop just down the street.

Went home with Jollibee take-outs (crispy Chicken Joy, Large Fries, and Shanghai Rolls) and I plugged in Lance's PS2 to my television and then I started to play.

That ends the week.
