BIGGER THAN MY BODY
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Year 2 - Starting Week #19
Background Music:
"Shut Up" by Black Eyed Peas

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that is posted at the start of the week prior to moving into my dormitory.

This is the premiere "Carpe Noctem" post of the 2nd Semester. It resumes with Week #19.

AFTER a three-week semestral break which reached as far north as Baguio to as south as Charles Huang Conference Center (CHCC) in Batangas, the 2nd Semester is about to begin.

First of all, let's review some other news that has transpired over the past three weeks:

***

A professor in the Communication Arts Department is gravely disappointed in me, I passed her subject but I failed her expectations.

***

I played Final Fantasy X during the first week of the three-week semestral break. I reached the point where I could finish the game off, but I discontinued that in favor of completing side-quests and attaining celestial weapons with that celestial mirror thing. I also got addicted to working with the Sphere Grid, at the same time I got so frustrated at the Chocobo Racing games. In the end, I could finish the game off... but if I do, all those side-quests and efforts would go to waste as I wouldn't prioritize the game any longer.

The University Games (UNIGAMES) 2003 was held in our campus at DLSU-D and in nearby "Town & Country" and the "Orchard Golf Course". My co-staffers at HF conducted heavy-duty coverage. Co-staffers also attended the Lunduyan Seminar in Metro Manila.

Heraldo Filipino's Broadsheet Vol. 18 No. 3 was released during the semestral break. It is the first Broadsheet that I have no articles published in it ever since I joined the Heraldo Filipino. The banner reads "Exorting prof charged" and was written by my classmate Maycee Mercado. Eric has one feature article published in it while Kate, who joined just this school year, has a number of news items published.

I went to Baguio City with the International Students Organization (ISO) to meet the foreign students of St. Louis University-Baguio (SLU-Baguio). It was a memorable trip. I was with Aldrich, Zubair, Yousef (all Applied Bio students) and Sir Sieg (Guidance Councelor at COS and Adviser of ISO). I also met my JOU2-1 classmates Apple and Jezire in Baguio. Click here for this report.

***

My friends Abbie Almasco and Len Barcelo have successfully shifted from AB Political Science to AB Broadcast Journalism. They are now designated under "JOU2". Joel Garcia, was not able to shift. I have no idea what is going to happen to him. I did my best to guide him, but he didn't listen.

The Heraldo Filipino held it's Batch 18 Midyear Seminar in CHCC. Click here for the report.

Joel celebrated his 19th Birthday at Ipanema in Eastwood, Libis, QC on the 31st of October (although his birthday was on the 30th). I was returning home from Charles Huang when they all met at ATC. Ben, Basil, Gail, Aldrich, Zubair, Abbie, and Joel were together for this event. Lance, Len, Nini, and myself wearn't able to go.

That about raps up what happened during the past three weeks. To think, I thought I'd be resting from the most haggard semester so far.

This is it. The 2nd Semester and there are three majors, not just one. I expect this semester to be harder, at at some points, more harsh. However, it's all in TIME MANAGEMENT and BALANCING. I lost my balance last semester and time management was difficult last semester since our schedule was murder (5 subjects on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2 subjects on Wednesdays, 3 subjects on Fridays).

Here is my 2nd Semester schedule, taking note, they removed the College Day Off scheme:

A lot of people have that fixed image of me that I am exactly what they see. Yes, I'm skinny and I've lost even more weight with all the stress and fatigue. Yes, unfortunately what they see in me is at often times true.

I've been irresponsible by being late to classes, absent in some of them. I've been irresponsible by passing the deadline of submission of articles. I've been irresponsible by not drinking moderately on school nights.

It's time to stop being irresponsible. That little boy everyone sees in me is about to shatter. I have new goals and new inspirations. I'll write my very best... because I am a writer and as they say "To write is already to choose..."

I see no reason to flip flop my grades this semester. I know I have the potential to succeed and join the elite of the academically-charged crowd. I have friends who are perfectionists, of which I can adapt to.

That burning desire to succeed higher, faster than ever before is what I feel right now. I want to mentally succeed. I want to spiritually succeed. I want to physically succeed. I may have a small body now, but I am determined. I am bigger than my body. -out-
