LASALLIAN DAYS 2004
The Damage Report - Year 2 - Ending Week #28
Background Music:
"I Got That (Boom Boom)" by B. Spears

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.

OUR university had its Lasallian Days this past week. It's the only school week in the whole university calendar where we could wear civilian throughout week long. Unlike last year when I was a Freshmen and had a mass demonstration, this year we just had time to relax and enjoy the festivities.

Our campus would be host to the Lasallian Days this year so we had delegates coming in from all the other La Salle campuses out there. I hope they enjoyed our environmental-friendly campus. I managed to document the whole of Lasallian Days 2004 in pictures from my point of view. However, I failed to attend the grand finale with LS2k4 on Friday which was at the ROTC grounds. I was tired and I went home early that's why. Heard there were fireworks and great dance groups from other campuses and all.

Monday - Big R Supercenter with Tom and Tony

I arrived at school a bit late and ended up not attending World Litt. Later on I decided I won't be taking Laws of Mass Media as well (first absence) to work on my remaining overdue articles for the Heraldo Filipino.

In the evening Tom and I went to Robinsons DasmariƱas to buy food for the Open House. I got Tony to come along and the three of us ate at KFC Rob-Dasma (first time to eat at that newly opened branch) before heading into the huge "Big R Supercenter" to browse for different supplies and foods.

It was then that I decided I would be throwing a small ice cream party for all my guests.

Tuesday - International Stuff and Open House

After waking up and taking a shower I headed for the Chapel grounds to witness the International Students Association (ISA) Cultural Show. It was nice watching a few of my friends up on stage. Zubair, JJ, and Kelvin performed in a band up on stage. Abbie and Len sang "My Immortal" with Zubair's band. Daryl sang "Smells Like Teen Spirit" up on stage... it looked fun.

Lance was emcee with our Korean friend, DJ.

Open House

Afterwards Leah & Eric joined me and we all headed back to the dorms. We dropped by my dorm (F3) before heading to Gail's dorm (E4)...

...then Abbie and classmate Upper's dorm (Polca-6)....

We returned to F3 for the ice cream treat and spent almost an hour there. I had two sets of guests, the first were all of us who came from Abbie/Upper's room (classmates and tropa) while the second set was Rona and company. My other classmates couldn't come because they went editing.

Tom and I headed down to the basement and into Clarize's dorm. They were having some "tipsy" fun over there. I had a few sips of Empoy which I at first hesitated, but it looked fun so I tried some.

I txt'd Leah and told her we're at the basement level near her room. She knocked on Clarize's door and then shortly we went into her room.

Time was up for the open house and we headed back to the e-house. Eventually Tom and I ended up eating the dishes that the Matron had saved for the dormers. We stayed awhile and then decided to enjoy the Videoke/Kareoke Machine that was there. We stayed for a few hours... even beyond curfew.

I got Leah to sing "Lately" by Stevie Wonder and I also requested her to sing "Hanggang Ngayon" by Kyla. Tony sang several songs including "Ocho-Ocho"... of which he also included Bayani's inserts... he memorized the whole damn song... woah. It was just fun since more and more dormers went to the e-house to watch.

And that concluded the busy Open House.

Wednesday - Henna Tattoos

On Wednesday I only emerged out of my room in the afternoon only to continue working on my overdue articles. I had two henna tattoo's made from Ate Joyce's booth (Managing Editor of HF). Eric and I both have it on our left hands. His chinese character says "Dragon" while mine says "Good Luck". I had another one made for the back of my neck which is the symbol of the Zodiac sign Cancer.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening just relaxing after the news editor who I have late articles for passed by. Maycee, Tom, and Paul would be watching Kill Bill at Robinsons Dasma. I took the time to relax. Ninin visited our school and with Len, the two were sporting red and drinking coke.

Thrusday - Finishing those Damn Articles

After two nights of drinking one Red Horse in a can was Thursday. No classes so we were free to spend time hanging out again... well in my case, it was the day to finish the overdue articles!

I joined the F3 tropa (that would mean my room mate Alex, guest roomie Jan Arian and his classmate Aaron, and guest roomie Niel) to eat out for lunch. We were to eat at Fiat but it was closed so we ate at Georjops.

After Georjops I officially declared I was in a money crisis and had to go home on Friday night. I was now using coins in some instances! My finances went under after spending so much during the start of the week at the Big R Supercenter.

I surfed at NEBO and finished up my News Feature... wheeeeeew. What a relief! I rushed it to the office and submitted it.

In the evening the USC was having its concert at Lake Park entitled "ANIMO!". It was fun, although I was at Square canteen enjoying it.

The Pointes 'N Flexes Dance Company performed the remix to "4 My PPL" (by Missy Elliott), the same one they performed during their 2nd week on SOP against Letran. It felt good "watching it live"! Then of course with all the money they've been earning they had fireworks too at the end of their performance. It looked so fun. I was at Square canteen ready to break into dance just looking at them.

And good news after that... I got a few statements from my classmate Jhem of Pointes to include into my article.

Unfortunately all that good was shattered once again once the dorms experienced a massacre of curfew violations when the matron suddenly decided to storm in and get occupants IDs who were arriving late. I was ready to argue for it since I just came from Square Canteen and arrived around 9:10pm... but since so many dormers already surrendered their IDs I just gave mine without a fight.

Friday - Taking a Breather

I was mostly relaxed after submitting the articles. On Friday morning we only had attendance and grades in World Litt. We also didn't have Logic class. Instead I convinced everyone who wanted to go that we eat at Arrozja. Cindy, Ara, Kate, Apple, Eric & Leah would go.

After eating we even hung out at the little playground there. Apple and Kate made the swinging loveseat reach really high levels. We took several pictures with Leah's camera (my digital camera had gone lowbatt).

In Broadcasting we just had attendance and submission of the three-minute feature. The story of the three-minute feature is that we had to do it again... yes, again! I refused to repeat it but the majority of the group decided to repeat it because of the fear we couldn't use fade-in's, etc. I protested that it wasn't fade-in and instead it was just fast transitions between each of the second-long cuts and scenes. The only problem we were really dealing with is the quality of the footage which deteriorates after being burnt onto a CD, etc.

And I was right, after Sir Palad reviewed it. I am irritated with Sir's "Mr. Know-it-All attitude" and instead of the encouraging adviser, he's rather the authoritarian adviser telling us what we can and can't do. If only he can be more helpful and not underestimate the power of JOU2-1. He yelled at a friend of mine when all my friend simply did was ask him a question. What patience! It's professors like him that make me want to be one too one day and properly advise the students.

I hate to say this, but the fact that much of the Comm Arts Department is just a big-headed Hierachy is starting to show up more. Much of my class including myself are just "ignoring the itch".

Well anyways, despite Sir's annoying "defense mechanism"... he still knows something in this field.

On Friday night I was at Square Canteen with Leah & Eric as well as Tom. Tom and I got our IDs back and signed that log book thing at the e-house for curfew violations. Basically it's just all this bullshit and if ever there's a case about me because it wasn't my first curfew, I AM READY to fight it. I love to dorm inside and the only BIGGEST disadvantage is the curfew. But usually everytime I get curfew'd it's because there's a valid reason.

Of Sir's irritating know-it-all presence.
Of the Matron's old-fashioned cold heart.

I won't let any of you control me.

It was a great week and I got picked up while another fireworks display was at works over the ROTC grounds with the LS2k4 going on over there. I had fun. It still had its sad points though. This past week wasn't as depressing as the week before. This past week was just tiring.
