NO MORE POINTES FOR SOP
The Damage Report - Year 2 - Pre-Summer Week #1 of 3
Background Music:
"Toxic" by Britney Spears

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.

Chaos.

That is exactly how I can describe the turn of events after SOP last Sunday. The show's surprise ending which betrayed its principles of "Voter's Choice thru Txt" just left everyone, all supporters of the famous dance troupe, in utmost anger. Some anger has even crossed lines towards the bashing of other schools and I have no idea where that started.

Maybe I should remind anyone who would probably be reading this, is that the only stand I take in the whole issue is justice for the Pointes on SOP. That's the only thing I stressed out from the beginning. It turned out to have reaction after reaction!

I admire almost all of the dances I saw on SOP's Campus Frontact. Well of course I loved the Pointes for their unique performances and projected energy, but when it came to other schools I also loved Miriam College... the girls there, although the costume was a bit strange, were just well-coordinated. The smile on one of the girls there was natural, it wasn't "mayabang" o "ma-angas"... it was just a sweet smile. Miriam! Miriam!

Anyways, it all lands on this Sunday's SOP if they have any announcements to make. If they don't, well... I guess we can't really do anything about it but understand that the ultimate champions really is DLSU-D's Pointes... because everyone who voted has proof that they won. That would bring UPLB and DLSU-D at a seven win tie.

Pointes has been cheated by SOP. Twice.

If SOP doesn't announce anything, it only comes to show they only seek to USE the talents of colleges, universities, and schools out there. No more ratings for them from us. No more support for them from us. No more Pointes for SOP.

This past week has been the first time I have been able to relax. The last weeks of the 2nd Semester was just stressful with shootings, tapings, and on-going projects. I keep getting that feeling of guilt this past week when I'm not doing anything productive.

But then I remind myself ,why worry? This is the week that God gave me to do absolutely nothing productive. That might sound wrong from someone's perspective, but from a perspective such as mine where you work... work... work... and after you finish working... you work... work... and work some more... doing "nothing" is doing something.

Am I making any sense? Logic!

And speaking of Logic, that is the number one subject I'm worried about. Failing it will be a blow to my application to become the next Features' Editor or Copy Desk Editor --or any kind of editor-- at Heraldo Filipino. I know, ABSOLUTELY NO FAILING GRADES... but I heard rumors of a past editor who managed to convince the screening board or something... there was something there... if it ever happens to me (I pray it won't)... I will ask for a re-consideration based on the following! Harhar!

  • I am a bonifide student of Broadcast Journalism, in other words, I am a journalism major!
  • My subjects this summer are Newswriting and Editing, Newspaper Management and Production... the timing couldn't be anymore perfect!

If ever any of us (Maycee, Eric, or I) successfully sit down as editors, we will be the first Broadjourn editors in the HF. Of course AB Comm has done it already... there's always been an AB Comm in the EB I think... but that's Fallacy of... arrrg... LOGIC again.

I keep thinking I failed LOGIC, but the more I think about it the more I seem to drown myself in my own misery. So I think I PASSED LOGIC! I mean, I got a good grade on a certain quiz during the Final Term. I did my recitation, which everyone says is the most important to determine if you pass or fail... the only problem was Test 3 on the Final Exam which was about Fallacies... I failed that big time! But I did 19/20 on Test 2... sounds fair right?!

I hope I don't fail Logic. I pray I don't fail Logic. Eeew... repeating LOGIC this summer?!

Here's a recap of this past week:

The Return of the Dormers. On Sunday night I slept over at the dorms again with Tom, Basil, and a few others. We watched Disk 1 of the pirated LOTR-The Return of the King wherein we ended up falling asleep because we were tired.

Dreaming, Believing, and Surviving. On Monday morning we made it to the HF Editorial Board written exam. The exam was pretty much similar to our exams in Intro to Journalism during the 2nd Semester. It took some time though, and of course, we had to be a perfectionists.

The Grudge 2. After the exam on Monday I went to ATC with my mom and our driver... we had our CR-V upgraded (additional: floodlights, window visors)... we went to SOUTHMALL where Kate joined me and we watched "The Grudge 2". Tom and Leah came from DLSU-D and we all watched. We had a studio picture there and we ate at Tokyo Tokyo. It was just delicious. I treated Kate to all of this since I missed her birthday party last Friday and I wanted to make it up to her.

Mom's Tasty Reunion. On Tuesday, I woke up in the afternoon only to have my breakfast as my dinner at Cavite City's famous restaurant- Chefoo with my mom and her Class of '71 batchmates... it was her cousin and batchmate Uncle Cesar's 51st Birthday.

Rest and a Pizza. On Wednesday I relaxed at home. And by Wednesday night I moved back into La Salle. I met Tom at Pizza Hut and we ordered pizza and went to the dorm... only to find the cleaners washed the other empty rooms. And there was no VCD player in our room anymore, Kyle took it home.

Psych Exam. On Thursday it was our psychological exam. Tom told me it was at JFH 3rd floor... we ended up at the psychology laboratories! It was exaggerated! The psych exam was in the admin building's testing room... hahahaha. The exam was long... it was like an entrance exam. It was in two parts, the first test was on LEADERSHIP skills and the second test was on PERSONALITY traits. No one would really fail I think... there has to be three or four different personality types and one failing type... hahaha. Afterwards Leah came to the campus because she has practice with the DLSU-D Chorale. My pickup came and I introduced my mom to our favorite place to eat- INASAL. She loved it. We went straight home.

Simply Relaxing. On Friday, I stayed at home and relaxed again. My dad called in, he arrived in Sasabo port in Japan. He's in asia! He's no longer in Hawaii. He called and spoke with my mom.

Gimmie a premonition... please!

That's something I want to temporarily have. In a weeks' time, I will know if I failed or passed Logic. I will know if I have become an editor or have been retained as a Senior Staff. There's just so much suspense right now, it's exciting... it's nerve-wrecking... it's a little bit of everything. I just wish the very best for the future of the Heraldo Filipino and to Broadjourn 2-1. I love these people so much. Cheers to the next three days ahead. May it be as fun and exciting as it is suspenseful.

For my application to become an editor... I will give it my very best.
