NOSTALGIC FOR A NIGHT
On witnessing the HS Class of 2004 graduate at Atheneum

We're getting older.

That's all I can seem to say. I was first more concerned if I'd be receiving a lot of negative comment on how seriously thin I am now. Instead, I was there in that memorable Quadrangle of my old High School having nothing but flashback after flashback.

It's been two years now into College and it feels like we just graduated a few weeks ago. Although most of us can say that a whole lifetime has passed by since our graduation... being back in Atheneum just made me forget about how busy everything has been lately. It was both a good and bad feeling. I was there watching a few familiar faces from High School (then second year students) take up the stage and graduate.

This year, not too many showed up from my batch. Jeff and company were there, but we didn't meet up. I was with Joy, and while she was pulling me across the audience I had an accurate flashback of her pulling me in the similar type of audience four years ago.

I remembered all those times it was just Joy and myself as we roamed the Quadrangle during the many programs. You name it, from the Musical Kaleidoscope (Theater Competition by year level) to the Miss Atheneum Pageants. This time, we were older.

We saw Sir Ruel and he stopped by. Sir Ruel was my adviser in III-Neon and he's the Chemistry and Biology teacher. Joy took a picture of us together. Joy and Sir Ruel had a conversation about recent things. Sir left because he was busy with the graduation.

Ms. Geraldine, my teacher in 4th Year HS Filipino, was there. I waved, but she still has that same old look where she's totally unimpressed. I almost didn't recognize Ms. Gigi, my teacher in 4th Year World History. That subject was my favorite in High School (Social Studies). Sir Ronald was there, so was Ms. Ynes who was my brother Paul's adviser last year. She only knows me by face.

Ms. Vidal, the terror teacher of our High School days, was up on stage. She had this warm smile. Obviously, she was proud of her graduating students. Was she also proud of her former students? We had her in Economics in 3rd Year HS. I think she's proud of us. Almost anyone who graduates HS in Atheneum receives a heartfelt smile from her. The once terror teacher who also has the meanest yet most comical antics you would ever hear from a HS faculty.

The Attorney and his wife, the Principal, were up on stage. It was Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos all over again. This time Imelda was wearing a purple gown and Ferdinand was in a barong.

I didn't see my batchmates! The last time I was in a night time event at Atheneum with my batchmates was during Miss Atheneum 2003. Of people I did see: Rowena, a batchmate, but just her. Timothy of Class 2001, he's gotten fatter. Johanna or Joanna also of Class 2001, she was there with her sister who just graduated... Joanna ate with Lance and I at Square Canteen last month. Kay David of Class 2003. Enrico's brother was there.

Joy was taking pictures of her cousin Melissa, who just graduated 4th Year HS. Melissa is Joy's last relative studying in Atheneum. For me, I have my brother Paul who is an incoming 4th Year HS student. Paul took up CAT this year, something he's not even required to do (US Citizen) but he wanted to. And just recently he was promoted to become Chief of MP, the tenth of the top ten positions according to him.

The ceremony ended and I got to take a few pictures. Joy and I lost each other in the crowd. I shook hands with Norman Victoria and Sir Ronnie. Sir Ronnie added to what Sir Ruel said when we had met. It so happens that they know I'm writing for the student publication of DLSU-D. I was shocked when a copy of Heraldo Filipino ended up in the faculty room. Wow. It made me want to give them copies from now on. Hehehe.

They cleaned up the place and the bittersweet evening of the Class of 2004 came to an end. Unless they went out clubbing or partying, which is something I didn't do after I graduated.

Here are the remaining pictures I took at the event:
