BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
The Damage Report - Year 3 - Ending Week #15
Background Music: "My Boo" by Alicia Keys and Usher
NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.
THE PHRASE "best of both worlds" applies greatly to what I'm feeling right now. Well, one thing... when you have two sections next semester, you can do a little tweaking and come out with the best schedule (see "A hopeful hybrid" later within this entry).
I didn't want to start this entry with "THINGS INTENSIFY" like last week, but that's exactly how it was this week. From GMA-7 studios to proofreading HF2 to making big decisions...

EXPOSURE TRIP TO GMA-7
Due to time contraints, pictures of this trip will not be posted at this time...
The exposure trip on Monday made me feel that excitement I used to feel about field trips. Field trips are extremely rare these days. The last one we had was in freshmen year college.
My seat mate on the bus was Eric. After horrible traffic on Aguinaldo Highway while watching "Underworld" and enjoying nachos with Upper and company... we arrived at this fast food oasis on Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard. Everyone except us had Jollybee while we had KFC. I accompanied Ara to Starbucks and ended up buying a Chocolate Iced Frappe myself.
It was like an episode of FEAR FACTOR when Apple was, how should I say this, harassed by Hetty... one of the mascots of Jollybee. Apple has a childhood fear of mascots, especially Goldilocks. Hetty did look like a close relative of the Goldilocks mascot so she freaked out. Even the Jollybee mascot freaked Apple out. Apple was cornered and screaming and eventually it was a picture taking frenzy when several JOU31 people started busting out their cameras taking pictures with the mascots. What a scene.
We were at GMA-7 Network (the new studios) minutes later and we had a nice tour of the place. We first visited the WLS FM 97.1 booth. I saw the Triggerman for the first time. He looks snubbish, perhaps because he was so busy with being on air. The other DJ there was also good.
Downstairs we met Arnold Clavio while he was on air doing his AM news program. He was quite nice actually. He waved at everyone when we left and looked accomodating. Yes, he really does looks circular even in person.
Next we visited the set of "24 Oras". We then visited the NEWS PRODUCTION ROOM of GMA-7 and got to stand in front of GMA-7's master controls. We then went to the set of UNANG HIRIT and my classmates had an affair with the teleprompter. Haha. More pictures... more fun...
Lastly we went to the biggest studio of GMA-7 which is currently the set of SOP. But when we were there, it was completely naked and empty of set materials and stage props. However, Ding Dong Dantes and his female co-host (a new one, I wasn't familiar with her) were doing their pictorial for the next season of STARSTRUCK.
Krystel made the "breakaway" when she suddenly walked close to Ding Dong Dantes and took a picture of him on her 6600. This caused a chain reaction as more ladies in my class ran like hungry chickens to the feed and took out their cameras and had pictures taken.
After stopping by a makeshift collectors' shop of GMA-7 t-shirts, mugs, and pins (which i bought)... we boarded the bus. We would have a three hour pit stop at SM Megamall.
Eric and I joined Apple, Keith, Upper, Katz, and Kay and entered The Podium. I wanted to breakaway from the girls and ask Eric if he'd want to go around looking for more manly things to window shop at (we were visiting stores for girls) but we still ended up following them. Eventually we did get to enter GAS, which is a place I've read about in FHM. The prices of the clothes there were GUESS x2. If only I'd be successful and earn money...
Before leaving THE PODIUM, Apple went to withdraw from an ATM. While we were leaving they saw Richard Gomez walk by them. On the way to SM Megamall, Apple and I were talking about how to open bank accounts. I'm planning to open one at either BPI or EQUITABLE.
We ate at the food court of SM MEGAMALL (at some Korean place) and later Eric accompanied me to buy my first pretzel from AUNTIE ANNE'S. We headed off to the bus out in the dirt parking lot in the center of towering skyscrapers. I wanted to take a picture but the weather was just too hot and I was holding too many things.
We left eventually and the people on the bus decreased as we got to the campus. That ended the trip.

Our little secret just might be the kind of thing that you can't hide
It's growing like a tangled vine & rising like a river in the tide
And everybody knew when you walked into the room
I was just a fool for you, nothing I could do
Everybody sees you taking control of me
Well I'm not begging for release
I'm just begging darling please, please
Act Naturally
Don't let our troubles show
Don't let anybody know
Till we get it figured out
Don't give them anything that they could doubt
Our little problem doesn't seem to be about to go away
As far as I can tell it's gonna keep on showing more with every day
And everybody look, yeah, that was all it took
I can't help believing they can read me like a book
So hide your feelings tight till we figure how to make it right
I don't know what I should but I
Would do it if I could
Act Naturally
Just be you beautiful
Just be you casual
I'll be me before the fall
You be you before this all came down
(Act Naturally)
Don't let our troubles show
Don't let anybody know
Till we get it figured out
Don't give them anything that they could doubt
Just be you beautiful
Just be you casual
I'll be me before the fall
You be you before this all came down
ACT NATURALLY. Semisonic.

Enforcing the position
I was irritated this past week with the continued abuse of the deadlines I've set. I'm thankful that there are a handful that really do take my deadlines seriously, but there are those who have absolutely no decent excuse on being late.
There's so much I'd like to say but it's best kept within the EB right now. In our next meeting, I have so much to bring up. I'm fed up to the point that I'm going to be more firm than ever.
This is the only year I'm going to be COPY EDITOR and I'M GOING TO DO THINGS RIGHT.

Legacy with Lance
A turn of events happened this week. Either sheer luck that Anthony Dulce didn't cash in my investment or simply because he didn't believe in my capabilities to recruit... whatever the case was, I'm now 50/50 with Lance as we share one account. I think it's safer, and two heads are better than one... especially if all we really want is to earn a little extra. I mean, we're not planning on buying expensive cars or anything like that. At least, not yet.

The power of choice
On Friday. JOU3-1 met with Associate Dean of CLA Dr. Aspra and CAD Chair Ms. Sarile. We sorted things out while Sir Palad claimed to be sick again. All the original JOU3-1 will now be prioritized and will retain their slots in JOU3-1 while all irregular students who've accumulated over the past few months will be in JOU3-2, which by the way, has a better schedule.
It was ironic for me after the meeting. While my classmates were jumping for joy and hugging each other (yes, some tropas were facing destruction with the previous setup of the two sections next sem)... I was sitting their in my chair paralyzed almost.
I wasn't rejoicing. I wasn't happy. I was just thinking about...
The schedule of JOU3-2 was better. I was walking in the hallways like a ghost trying to figure out my stand. I was happy because majority of the class, if not all, was happy with the final verdict. I entered a state of confusion. I love my classmates, they know that. But for some reason, I wanted to just "BREAKAWAY" and take an alternate route.
It bothered me even while I was trying to eat my spaghetti at Jefcee's. I txt'd a congratz to Abbie and another one to Franco since they were now united again in JOU3-2 next semester. My face lit up when Katz' suddenly opened up the thought of making the "big switch" to JOU3-2. There were 35 in JOU3-1 and 23 or 24 in JOU3-2. If Katz, Upper, Kay, Apple, Leah, and myself would make the move to JOU3-2 it would actually work. I mean, it would be even between two sections.
Fast forward to later at JFH when Katz backed out on the idea while Upper, Kay, and Apple went to SM Dasma. Leah suddenly jumped ship with Ayesha and signed up for JOU3-2 along with Ara. Katz had our secretary Kate finish up the final listing of the two sections for next semester and my name was in JOU3-1.
Kate submitted it to Ms. Sarile at the Editing Room (JFH 104) and I was following her. I couldn't decide. During the time my name was written under JOU3-1 it just felt weird... it felt wrong... I was troubled by it. I tried to cut out elements that shouldn't be part of my final decision.
I've decided to become part of the new section, JOU3-2.

A hopeful hybrid
I'm praying that the schedules in the pre-registration forms remain the same. Hopefully nothing drastic changes. Because if the schedule on the pre-reg of the two sections remain intact, I can still have one or two majors with JOU3-1. Yehey!
I've done researching and I've formulated an ideal schedule (which won't be a sure thing until two or three weeks into the 2nd semester). I'm planning on taking COMMUNICATION RESEARCH I and PHOTOJOURNALISM LAB with JOU3-1. Thanks to advancing TECHNICAL WRITING this semester, it's made things flexible.
To possibly juice things up, I won't have classes on MONDAYS and THURSDAYS. I'll also have TWO WASH DAYS (Wednesday and Saturday).
I'm not expecting anything though. The schedules do change, but whatever happens I have a feeling I can still become classmates with JOU3-1 even if I'm in JOU3-2. The thing about two sections is actually an advantage now that we can experiment with things. If Sir Palad plans on building tall walls blocking "traveling students" from being in two sections, then it'll terminate my plans. But not my hopes. I can always make an appeal to Associate Dean Aspra, anyways.
Those simple days of us being together in one section...
