DIGITAL LANDSCAPING

I sleep late (read: 3:00 AM).
I wake up late (read: 3:00 PM).

I'm fed up with news reports:
- Blasts in New Delhi, another train derails in India
- Royal Visit of Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall in the USA
- Julius Babao linkages with a terrorist

I'm also fed up with drama and reality television:
- All the crying on Ikaw Ang Lahat sa Akin, sheesh!
- The repetitive storyline of Kampanerang Kuba
- The family-oriented packaging of PBB, they're trying so hard

Of course there's music, movies, and educational programming:
- I'm starting to like emo-rock band "My Chemical Romance"
- Fergie and the humps with BEP's latest video
- Madonna and Backstreet Boys go old school in retro fashion
- London the Megacity and London after 7/7 bombings

Then of course, this came...

Clue: This isn't Tom's laptop.

Yes! It's a 14-inch iBook G4 from Ynzal. It is loaded with an Airport Extreme card which allows it to access the internet without cables and telephone lines (I picture myself enjoying a frappe at coffee shops everywhere while surfing for free). It also comes equipped with one of the most powerful operating systems today, the MAC OS X Tiger. (Un)Like Windows XP with 95, 98, 2000, and NT platforms of the past... the Machintosh comes out like those wild felines (former MAC OS X versions include the Cheetah, Puma, and Jaguar). Tom's OS on his 12-inch iBook is equipped with the Panther operating system.

Here's the twist, the iBook that Tom researched from Ynzal and that my parents bought for me (much thanks) is actually pre-owned! The previous owner, according to Ynzal's technical staff Kuya Wally, is the father of acoustic performer Paulo Santos. The iBook, which was purchased in the states, was only in use for a month before the elder Santos decided to buy a Powerbook. My ibook was actually the most recent model of the Apple iBook product line that was just released this September 2005.

Here's a snapshot of my desktop. (Keepin' it simple.)

So, it's pre-owned. But it's in great shape! A brand new one would cost 20,000 pesos more than the price we got at Ynzal. The iBook I have now is still under the original warranty and Ynzal offers a one-month free technical support warranty aside from being open with support services all year round.

The people at Ynzal also recommended putting the built-in Airport Extreme card into use by purchasing a wireless router for the house since we needed a way to split the PLDT myDSL connection. So off to SM Megamall afterwards to buy a Linksys Wireless router...

...which actually took a week before we got everything working with ease. *Bows*

Thank you to Tom for baptizing me into the Apple world of computers, to Ynzal Marketing for providing Filipinos with quality Apples, and of course to my parents who I love and cherish so much for purchasing the laptop.

Friendster skins

Of course, what do you get when you mix a bit of vanity and melancholy? This past sembreak I've worked on basic CSS, Photoshop, and YouTube to produce a customized profile for both GeoRge Une (pronounced as uhn) and GeoRge Deux (pronounced as tu).

Behind bars for GeoRge Une.

For GeoRge Une, I took some images from our summer LS special pictorials and finally came out with the effect that I wanted then. For GeoRge Deux, I took a picture of the beach in Puerto during Sembreak 2004 and patterned it with another picture from the same LS special pictorial during the summer. I added the symbolism of the scorpion, complete with it's invisible sting and venom.

Sweet the sting from a scorpion for GeoRge Deux.

Each profile also contains a streaming video from our Alerto TV productions last January. It also has links to other Alerto TV news stories that are also on the internet.
