The Damage Report - Week #8
NOTE: this is a post that is made to give a summary of events that has happened at DLSU-D during the finished week. usually posted saturday nights.
ON MONDAY (Gputz Journal titled: "It Comes Down To This")
Armed with a Television set and stand, the dorm was alive more than ever. The only thing that seems to be missing is the linolium for the dark red flooring.

In NSTP-CWTSP, our group finally presented the documentary we made almost a month ago. The edit wasn't my best, yet it did keep the class awake with all the bloopers. Group leader and classmate William threw in a 30-minute segment from an educational television show he guest starred in, which brought the class laughing.
For 20 minutes, I rushed out of NSTP-CWTSP to the DPH of West Campus to interview the Director of Physical Facilities for the HERALDO FILIPINO. It was my first scheduled appointment with someone like him for the school paper. The interview was a success, and I rushed back to class.
In the early evening, Tina merged JOU11 with ENGINEERING students for the BROADJOURN BUWAN NG WIKA performance. In this first grand meeting, we officialized the positions of people. Together with Maycee and Keith, we are Musical Directors.
Drama took over the evening as VPAPU and it's pressuring demands made my evening darker. I had shouted to Roi "SHUT-UP!" in front of the guard of the dorms in the morning for bitching at me on and on about something I was working on that was "in progress". We finalized our plans for the MOCK SHOW on Tuesday.
In the Dorms, the addition of a television made the evening less stressful. Buffy's episode was about her reaction to her mother's death. While on Charmed, it was CHARMED and DANGEROUS which caught the attention of some neighbors to sit down and watch. At the same time, Lance took one of our guests to the computer and ended up watching a BOLD VCD there.
So while trying to concetrate on the already not-so-good Antenna signal of Charmed wherein the Source fights the Charmed Ones... sounds of pleasure come from another direction.
Please Lance. Out of the other 167 available hours of a whole week... can't you just shut that fucking thing off at 9pm Mondays?! Sheesh. Show some respect to those who are watching. Keep your PC Off if you have to.
ON TUESDAY (Gputz Journal titled: "Manila Paper Man")
An explosion between two of three Organizations I'm in occurs. VPAPU, the one I've worked hard to get in... became the villain while HERALDO FILIPINO, the one I somehow ended up in... became the good guy.
The "Mock Show" the new and probationary members of VPAPU was in the background of the day. I had stayed in classes up till Algebra where I broke off and took the Excuse Letter. I ran off to Lake Park to help Jerwyn assemble the background of the outdoor stage. The afternoon heat was on our backs as we stapled piece by piece the background. We attached lights, I ran to the GMH to carry heavy cords to Lake Park. We connected spotlights, I went out to buy film. And then... it rained.
The show was now a wreck. The MOCK SHOW is a fashion show... (not my decision) ...and we had models looking their best already whilst fellow VPAPU probees appeared disasterous in working clothes and half-drenched by the pouring rain.
Sharif, my neighbor the Jordanian guy in F5, was amongst the models sitting quietly under the kubo. He was patient, so it seemed. VPAPU knew that I knew him already, so they asked me to talk to Sharif to "calm" him down. Why? Well I dunno. Probably because if Sharif looked mad, his stare could give everyone the Living Daylights and paralyze people.
He kept cool, in fact, very much cooperative. Roi shouted more orders which frustrated other probees like HRM students Gerald and Uroh. Sai, was no longer "Sai Saya" but instead "Sai Sad". Not because of the rain, not because of Roi... but because her light in the night Kuya Jay (General Secretary of VPAPU, Upperclassmen) wasn't present. Well, not until later. When Kuya Jay appeared, Sai was "Sai Saya" again as she hovered around smiling place to place like a butterfly.
After much deliberation and frustration, we bagged the Alumni Hall. It was about 100 meters down a covered walk and is directly under the big Auditorium our several Orientations took place in. We moved our stuff there, ate sandwiches, and found out the whole thing is postponed for next Monday.
Fuck that.
We carried some 80-pound yellow basket which was hard to maintain a grip on. It was now starting to be painful doing this. I mean, it's okay if the group is happy like my BroadJourn classmates... but some other probees of VPAPU are just so fucking demanding and downright bitchy.
At GMH, the VPAPU-PAG stockroom neighbors the office of the HERALDO FILIPINO. I stopped by to talk to Oliver, Joanna, and them. The HF is doing lay-outs for it's 2nd issue due out soon.

I returned to my dorm to go crazy with Manila Paper. Lance and Jan played a bit of video games on Playstation as I fixed up my closet, my cabinet, and my workdesk with Manila Paper. The result? It gives things a more civilized look. Rather than seeing all that old dark wood... with the Manila Paper... things come to life and look better to look at. Especially my cabinet... with the soap and shampoo, toothbrush...
ON WEDNESDAY (Gputz Journal titled: "Living a Moment of my Dream")
A painfully sleepy half-day. I mean, my Wednesdays are always half-days. No more breezy wind with friends at the botibot. It's now work, work, and more work. We had practice for our BUWAN NG WIKA for next week. It's looking good so far. Arjay, the director is handling it and she shows that she knows what she's doing.

VPAPU lessened it's tight grip on me and other probees, but now HERALDO FILIPINO took me up. I rushed to complete two articles, which were actually already done but they just needed a bit of tuning up prior to submission.
That's where I found myself typing in this more advanced computer. I mean, my computer in Tanza is pretty normal and convenient. Lance's computer in the dorm is convenient to VCD-goers and horny neighbors. The computer deep inside the HF Office, to my surprise, was advanced. Office XP Word?! It was so advanced I couldn't control even the mouse. If the mouse would simply hover over a "Bold" button, it would do all these damn tricks and my whole article would be wrecked with bold here and there.
I was careful with the mouse and I happily typed. Just then, I stopped and took a breath. I was inside an office filled with papers, surrounded by busy editors and writers, a layout here and there, a telephone call every so often in the background, the editor-in-chief coming in to check on things.
Something I never felt in High School... something I didn't expect to feel so early in College. I was living a moment of my dream by just sitting there.
ON THURSDAY (Gputz Journal titled: "Party Onwards! In Second Skin")
It's August 1, and exactly two years after I created a fan-fiction show named "Destined" with Erika, my female best friend from High School. Actually, that fact has absolutely nothing to do with today.
VPAPU's 2-day break was almost done, and HERALDO FILIPINO should be satisfied for at least two days after I gave them my articles. Meaning, I was now up to enjoy FROSHNYTE. The Comm Department Acquaintance Party.
And trust me, nobody was really acquainted.
The four Freshmen Sections once again clashed. COM11, COM12, COM13, and of course JOU11. Basically the feeling of being in JOU11 is great, it also felt like the other three had allied to go against us. They really hate us! Haha. Nah, that's just what I think.

The theme was MIB:II and/or THE MATRIX. Black and White. I didn't have anything to wear so Lance let me borrow his black shirt, black pants, and Francis of F2 let me borrow this nice black digital watch. I was ready. I arrived and soon BROADJOURN once again rocked the hall. When an upperclass girl went to kiss Sir Palad (adviser) as he sang, Broadjourn gay classmate Jeremy ran up to the stage and gave Sir a kiss as well.
Mae Anne and Charmagne were just so sexy in what they wore. Charmagne won Best in Female Attire later on, because it's like wherever she would go eyes would follow.
The party was mostly a battle of performances. COM13 performed first, and did J-Lo and then they did "I'm a Slave 4 U" by Britney... which is our fucking song!! I mean, our section was doing that song. GREAT. Just GREAT. When it's our turn, they'll say we copied them.
COM12 on the other hand exaggerated with Nelly's "Hot in Here". Well not all of them. The girls did great, the other two guys were normal... but this one dude in the center was so obvious he choreographed the whole damn thing. His moves were too fast and direct that he made the other dancers look lame. Stomping noices on the wooden stage added to this "exaggeration"... and in Fast Forward he could have gone head on in Cock Fighting... as in, with another chicken.
To my surprise, COM11 didn't have a performance! I was disappointed. Well... *ahem* ...according to Eric's friend who is in COM11... some kind of civil war occured in that section.
Then came JOU11. YEEEAAAH!! I got my camera ready. The performers included the three extra-happy people in class: Emil, Nats, and Jeremy. The fourth dude was William. Then there would include Wilda, Joanna, and the other great female dancers in class.

They got in their starting positions, and there was a tape problem. Between Eric and myself, it felt like Sabotage! Was it the doings of COM11?! Haha. Nah. Joke only. Geez, just trying to have fun here.
"I'M A SLAAAAVE.... FOR YOU...."
The music began to play and I took pictures. And it felt weird taking these non-professional pictures in front of some dude that looks like the filipino version of Peter Parker/Tobey Maguire who was also holding a camera. I didn't give shit, I ran up front to take pictures.
Throughout the performance, JOU11 cheered our classmates on. The other COM sections also enjoyed I guess, because Emil and Jeremy up front totally shredding off any remains of muscle for bootie shaking sex-bomb dancer moves looked entertaining because it's "different" from the others.
The music stopped for three seconds, then it continued. Sabotage again?
So we all sat down, and a rap performance took place. Bad sound system at Alumni Hall by the way. Then they announced the winner. COM13 with J-Lo had it good, all girls dancing to two great songs. BUT... for some reason I couldn't explain that evening... JOU11 won!
I couldn't make sense of it. I had pictured those pretty girls of COM13 winning. As my classmates jumped up and down shouting... I was just standing there dumbfounded.
Charmagne took home Best in Formal Attire, and the evening was complete. We took pictures outside before everyone dispersed.

I went to Square Canteen where another performance was going on. I met with Joel and we ate dinner, sizzling, at a stall behind the performances. Bands were playing good songs, and neighbors from Dorms were seated there. It was for the Freudian Society (Psychology peeps) and they were celebrating their 5th year. And the MAXIBON eating challange was there!
I wanted to get a picture holding a MAXIBON by the posters. To "fake" it for this blog. Haha. I was full with sizzling, at the same time VPAPU members were seated to one side. Suddenly Joel took off to the front to stand on the platform and he was ready to eat his MAXIBON. I took a picture, also wishing I had done that.

He got to 20 or 30 seconds, and our neighbors laughed in entertainment. Ate Abbey, the girl who interviewed me in VPAPU also tried... she looked funny and happy. It got down to 12 seconds between two guys. And the event was over after two more band performances. I volunteered to help them take down the lights and collect the chairs, etc.
I was very drenched, once again... working hard in VPAPU lifting this and that. The work is dirty. I know I would have enjoyed this work. But knowing that I'm also a member of the HERALDO FILIPINO, a much more cleaner and less-on-the-spot pressuring organization... it makes VPAPU really look complicated and tiresome.
At GMH, I went into the HF office to log out. There, Kuya Marthy (Feature Editor), the Managing Editor, and Editor-in-Chief herself were there locking up. I spoke to them on the way down the stairs. I had lost the VPAPU after walking into the HF. Anyways, Ate Chiqui (EIC) was picked up and offered to drop me at my dorm gate. Kuya Marthy and the Managing Editor were already inside, and it was raining hard. So I got in.
I popped out of the car in front of my dorm. There, I saw my VPAPU probees still there walking slowly with umbrellas under the rain. The Orange Lights from the power station reflecting on the puddles of water in the night... Kuya Jay telling me to sign out with the attendance of VPAPU.
There you have it, the cross between two organizations happen right before you.
ON FRIDAY (Gputz Journal titled: "That 70s Party")
The morning was quiet and rainy. The early afternoon was at PLS watching them assemble the place for FRESHMANIA (The University Student Council event for Freshmen to party like it was the 70s) while doing aerobics in PE. The late afternoon was in my dormitory looking for anything to wear to make me look 70s. Oliver of HF says to make my hair like that of deceased Rico Yan. Uh... a cross between "great idea!" and "how morbid of you" went through me.
I tried, it won't work... it's just so damn weird looking. Joel went with long-sleeves, maroon at the wrist. Joel looked like 70s alright... specifically 2070s... with his all-grey apperance. Lance armed himself with shades and wore a tan plaid shirt and normal pants. His slow bouncy walk led the way to PLS. I wore a dark blue polo with the highest two buttons unbuttoned, suggested by William.
We made our way across the darkening and silent campus to PLS, where the sound system was tremendously loud. Inside, I was greeted by AB COMM CHANNEL officers who already knew me. Wondering why I didn't go that much into the 70s look.
As I entered, Lance pointed out he saw Candy. I turned around to see this girl dressed in pink... with those big glasses they wore in the 70s... I took the risk and trusted Lance as I rushed to this girl and tapped her on the back. It was CANDY alright! We began shouting greetings and suddenly CECILE appeared!! High School Classmates!!! Cecile and Candy hugged as I backed off smiling as Lance came. Four of us, together here! I joined Cecile who brought me to her Engineering friends. Then my own JOU11 classmates found me.
They were looking great! All the girls were looking great!
Performance after Performance... Slick Rick of Magic 89.9 up on the stage. Great singers, great songs from the 70s, I danced with my classmates, listened to Leah try to win for singing a Kyla song, and we enjoyed raffles.

"I FEEL FOR YOU.... I KNOW I TRULY LOVE YOU... IN MY HEART... AND IN MY SOUL..."
Leah was great! She was the best out of those others. But she didn't win. She lost to a girl who seemed to have gotten more of the crowd to cheer for her. Oh well.
But there is someone that did win. CANDY PAREDES (flash from high school), one of the seven in the picture and in our group of friends in old Atheneum... won BEST DRESSED 70s girl!

My eyes opened wide as I saw her on stage next to Slick Rick. Our very own Candy up there!
We danced the night away, ate a slice of Pizza Hut (mmmmmm...)... until 9:30pm. Thanks to Lance's insistant personality on something that needs to get done... we got to have an autograph with Slick Rick plus 2 pictures!!!

We returned to the dorm, already late. I was tired... and needed sleep. For the first time of dorming, I fell asleep while our dorm had guests. Joel didn't sleep in Jan's bed. Noisy Basil fell asleep just moments after I did according to Lance. More mature Brian and keep-cool Carl probably carried Basil back to their room. Okay, joke only. The Filipinos from Kuwait, Basil, Brian, and Carl... left with Joel. Lance and I got an early sleep in the dorm.
A very busy week. With the last three days of July pressure-heavy with VPAPU and HERALDO. Then the first two days of August to party on with FROSHNYTE and FRESHMANIA.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures to aid the many words. Over the weekend I wanted to fix the blog... I did sort of but the format of three columns would make you all dizzy, trust me. So I'm going to think of a whole new format to incorporate the new College Pictures scanned and waited on my PC to be unleashed.
Until then... good night.
