BEWARE OF THE BOMB
The Damage Report - Semestral Break Edition - Week #2

The United States still reconsidering it's plan for all-out War on Iraq. That's on stand-by. More recently... the audience of a theater in Moscow is held hostage. In the New England area of the United States, random people are being shot by a sniper. Closer to home... in a popular tourist bar in exotic Bali, a bomb goes off killing nearly two hundred. Even closer to home... once again bombs go off in the Southern Philippines. A few miles away from home... bombs blowing up big buses and bomb scares throughout the Metro.

It's the middle of our Semestral Break and the gravity of war, chaos, and death is all around more than ever. I stayed mostly at home this week. I already regret wasting away my time in front of the television screen and computer screen surfing while eating chips and Mountain Dew.

I'm so unhealthy.

My original plan was to go to the gym every other day this Semestral Break. It's half-way through and I can't find anything to motivate me. A work out partner would be great, but all HS friends are busy in College right now and my classmate Jerson either doesn't have load or is just not interested.

I became extremely lazy to go on my own so I didn't go. I've just stayed confined to my bed. I sleep around 12:30MN in a crisp and cold air-conditioned atmosphere and I wake up around 10:30AM in a warm drift of air with the aircondition turned off. I hate that feeling.

The electric bill this past month has been the highest our house has ever consumed. The internet bill is screwed up over at Pacific Internet. We check our account time this month and the results are chaotic. Sometimes it says a striking 29 hours when we felt it was 40 something, then another time it would decrease to 22 hours when it could have been 50 something. WTF?!

I felt even more unhealthy with days spent entirely at home and just catching episodes of Dark Angel, The Amazing Race 3, and other sorts.

On Friday, it was a historic day for me as I finally had a chance to buy new clothes. The clothes I've been wearing this past Semester have been "left overs" from High School. I've worn them over and over and over again. Not that I dislike wearing long-term clothes, but I'm getting sick of finding something new to wear for a certain event. You can catch me borrowing black shirts from Lance twice, black pants from him once, a black polo from Kuwait-raised Karl down the dormitory hall, and even a watch from "Dino".

I'm tired of that.

So since my dad is getting additional income now for the family, I've requested for a special $100 to buy new clothes. Convert that to Peso, you have P5,300. I felt like I've never shopped for clothes since 3rd Year High School!

We went to SM Bacoor on Friday to pick up my 8x10 at Island Photo. For once, I was no longer afraid to spend. I was no longer pulled by my empty wallet. I was finally given a gift worth that amount that I could buy anything. For the first time in a long time.

I headed to Pennshoppe first, Mandy Moore fever. I instantly found a nice polo and the saleslady there was the nicest compared to later on. I also bought some colongne so I can bag myself five big stickers of Mandy Moore with short hair.

I left the place holding a grey bag, again... it felt "cool... i bought something.". I went to American Blvd. next and spent 30 minutes there trying to figure out what would look good. About 10 minutes in, I noted buying anything from American Blvd. would toss me between becoming a Skater or a Rapper. I was lost.

I walked out with Skater clothes, 3/4 pants and a polo.

Next stop was Burger King and then I went to the Department Store to bag me clothes that were cheaper then those from the stores upstairs. I couldn't find anything, or much. I must've forgotten to look at one whole area. I found two polos. I got lost in the pants area. I tried two on in the Fitting Room... then noted they were frigging fake!! One pants had missing belt straps while another had no button. WTF?!

I was outraged and I threw the pants back on that pile and headed off. None of those on hangers got my interest. Suddenly I noticed a mannakin with these loose, not-tight, not-superbaggy... but just "loose" pants.

I bought two and left the Department Store. Next stop was Bench. Nothing really captured me there, a few things, but I didn't find anything. I went to the Appliance Center and searched for a brand new Electric Fan for my dorm room. This would increase my comfort level in La Salle a lot. I compared, looked at prices and condition, brands, and other notes.

I walked out with an average-sized electric fan, the one that can't extend in height.

A quick stop to ACE Hardware to buy a doorknob for my room in the house and then I joined my mom in the SM Supermarket.

It was a quick browse through the supermarket only to buy some OJ and a few cans of Mountain Dew. I was holding a heavy yellow basket of drinks and OJ and I was following my mom into the cashier area when suddenly I heard a "kursplot" sound.

I looked down on the ground and saw two big fish, with eyes closed, and both with wide open mouths slide down on the flooring. The sight made me want to burst out laughing. I didn't blame the lady, I mean, the plastics at the SM Fish area aren't tied that tightly. Poor lady.

I walked away trying to keep myself steady and about 10 minutes later we were already on the way to Noveleta.

The mall was under tight security. I know there were still many ways a bomb could make it in, but at least it wasn't entirely open to that possibility. They did have measures, they did do thorough checking.

After going to the mall, we went to Atheneum, the High School I recently graduated from. I wasn't planning on visiting Atheneum till it holds it's school pageant in December. But I had no choice, either skip ahead and commute home or take the ride with my mom and our driver to school to retrieve a report card.

I grew nervous at first. I wish I had batchmates on the campus I could hang out with. We arrived and I remembered Ate Lolit's. It was crowded after the 2nd Quarter Recognition Day. I saw familiar Athenean faces of the past, and then Veejay Siongco who is in COSC 1-2 at La Salle was a batchmate among the many just hanging there at those stores. She yelled my name "George!" and I greeted her in return.

That was a major relief already.

We went to the parking lot and the first thing I noted was that all the plant life of the campus was now twice as bigger as before. A stupid observation, but quite noticable. My mom left the service and headed up to New Amcan Hall while I stayed in the owner, just sitting there.

I saw this girl walking and holding her Report Card. It struck me right then and there when I saw her uniform. The white blouse on the top and a plaid colored skirt. Right there, I knew I was where I came from. I remembered all the girls in my batch who wore that kind of uniform everyday to school for the past four years. The grey pants and polos of the guys also reminded me of our uniforms later on.

Suddenly G7 Joy called me via cell and told me she was on campus. Next thing I know, she's on the other side of the parking lot.

I get out of the owner and we meet at the very center of the empty parking lot, sunny weather, windy, and the sight of one of my closest friends in High School.

We decided to enter the Canteen, my first time in ages. Same canteen cast, the canteen looked the same, of course eventually a table or two would be in a new position.

I didn't order since I forgot to bring money plus I had just finished a can of Mountain Dew. Joy on the other hand got coke and we headed to the stage and sat there.

On the stage we just remembered the High School days once again. I told Joy I could barely familiarize myself with the other people in the Atheneum uniform that were roaming around the Quadrangle.

Norman, the only other aspiring webmaster I know of in the High School department, is now a 3rd Year student. He waved at Joy and me, and we waved back.

Joy asked to play a round of basketball, a game I don't play because I hate games with balls flying in the air. If she asked to go biking, hiking, I'd go for it. Anyways, I said YES since it was a rare opportunity. We played a few rounds, of course shooting successfully twice for every 10 shots.

Batchmates Rowena, LA, Hazel, and Veejay were at the abandoned Library talking. It's nice to see them again. LA has shorter hair, Hazel and Rowena still look the same, and of course I see Veejay at La Salle almost every week.

Joy looked like the way I remembered her, of course everyone had that college look glossed on them.

Joy and I sat down at the Archway, and then batchmate Jeff's shiny red car came in to Atheneum. He came out with a smile. His hair is a little longer, curly too. Veejay rode with him. When Jeff came out of his car, he was greeted by all my other batchmates and all the younger High School guys in the Quadrangle. Talk about being missed!

That's one thing I've taken into good thought about Jeff. The way he handles it. It's loose and he's friendly to everybody. I don't want to mention some other batchmates who just absorb this kind of stuff straight into them.

I knew my mom and our driver were waiting for nearly 20 minutes for me. So I left Joy with my other batchmates and headed back to the owner. I didn't visit the New Amcan Hall and I didn't see any teachers. I didn't walk into Ate Lolit's as well.

We left for home.

Bombs and Snipers. Pricetags and High School Memories.
