THE ELECTRIC HOLIDAY
The Damage Report - Holiday Special - Week 1 of 2

NOTE: this is a special post to conclude the events of the past week. this is the first of a two-week Christmas Break featuring "the damage report".

This past week I've been spending some time watching some movies. Aside from the problems with the 110v and electricity, we still managed to watch a set of good movies this past year and some from last year.

Last Monday we went to SM Bacoor to buy a new printer and to get my cellphone repaired. Only to discover that we need to go home and check if our computer is capable of handling a brand new printer. On the cellphone, the technician won't be around till Thursday.

Basically I just bought three VCD movies which sum'd up that trip to SM. [Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring], [Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone], and [Minority Report].

Adding to [xXx] which we watched on Sunday night, we watched [Windtalkers] on Monday night.

"WINDTALKERS"

Perhaps many say that John Woo wasted his time with creating this movie, I honestly say that I enjoyed it. I mean, it isn't a stand-out war movie, but it's message was clear and simple. A normal and complete action package. A friendship between two different people. An inner problem about following orders or saving the life of your own friend. After watching [Windtalkers], I've yet to catch other war movies that I haven't seen yet. I haven't seen [Saving Private Ryan], [The Thin Red Line], and [We Were Soldiers] yet. Of course, nothing could beat [Band of Brothers], which is still my favorite war-related film/mini-series out there.

Christmas Eve came and my broken NOKIA 3350 didn't help one bit with receiving txt msgs. It was my first Christmas with a cellphone and my own cellphone wasn't in working order. I received txt msgs from numbers that wearn't recorded in my SIM because some were saved on the unit itself. My SIM was located inside my brother's cellphone.

We watched [Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring] and [Minority Report] on Christmas Eve.

"LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING"

With the much anticipated "The Two Towers" this upcoming January 4th, I had to catch the first of the trilogy. I remained firm with how I felt with this movie. How it is an un-ending story in the first movie. Unlike the [Star Wars] set of movies, [Lord of the Rings] has "no gravity" within one movie. You feel they will reach Mordor within the movie, than you find out after battles and exotic places visited that the movie ends with them "just walking for Mordor". In [Star Wars], there's a story in each movie.

Well, that's just [Lord of the Rings]. I still enjoyed watching the movie again and having it in my new VCD collection which I've decided to start up this Christmas Break.

Lots of Gamecube and SMASH rounds later, we watched [Minority Report] before heading off to Midnight Mass at the bayan of Tanza.

"MINORITY REPORT"

A flashback of watching this movie with Apple, William, and my roommate Lance at Robinsons Imus last June 27, 2002. This was the first movie I watched in a theater in my College Life. One of my favorite movies of recent day, I liked how [Minority Report] really captures a unique storyline and a believable concept of the year 2054.

At Christmas Mass I saw Angelo Aratan (Photojournalist at DLSU-D's Heraldo Filipino) and High School batchmates Juno and Rissa.

The following day I woke up late for Christmas. I barely saw the visitors and guests who came over to our house. We kept my room air conditioned as we watched [Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone]

"HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE"

Like I stated in an entry this past week, my first observation was that our heroes were small! Of course, but it's just so fast how they changed already. How older and more mature they appear in [Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets]. I also enjoyed watching the first movie especially the never-before-seen scenes.

Christmas Day was then spent on eating food and somehow not finishing it. It was also spent playing SMASH over and over again and uncovering secret characters, hidden stages, and other bonuses.

Thursday began and we were headed to the mall again. To fix my cellphone, bring the computer there and get a new USB port installed, and buy a new printer.

At the mall we went to develop two rolls of film but Island Photo ran out of photo paper. The mall was crowded... all the people who received money the past day headed for the malls. We picked up my KODAK camera which got repaired, we submitted my NOKIA 3350 and hopefully they can revive it in three days, and we carried this huge box across this crowded mall which carried our computer.

That's when we found out that we didn't need to bring our computer to the mall because the thing we were to install on it wouldn't fit on the motherboard because our computer already has a USB port to carry the Printer.

What a waste of energy.

That's where I bought "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns" and my brother bought "Men II Black" at Astrovision.

Friday started off with a phone call from Joy and than an extention towards Enrico, a friend back in High School. 110v blackouts were throughout the dull afternoon.

We watched "Men II Black" on my computer.

"MEN II BLACK"

Since it was played on my computer, the sound was quite low. But from the murmurs and the eye candy, this movie did provide a hilarious return of the two agents. And that seems to be all I could say about that. A good movie, but I'll have to watch it again.

Due to the 110v blackouts, I couldn't play SMASH as much. And I was starting to frustrate about how the television in my room was facing a potential breakdown if the off-and-on 110v kept repeating for a few more days.

In the evening I watched Part 2 of the SURVIVOR V Finale. It was a very tight argument during the Question and Answer Portion between the Jury and the two remaining survivors who are Clay and Brian.

After watching, we played SMASH in Paul's room when the 110v started to stay on and it didn't switch off. After playing there, we went to my room to watch [The Mummy].

"THE MUMMY"

As I'm typing this "The Damage Report", the movie is on right now. I'm glad I've added "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns" to my new collection of VCD movies. It's two great examples of action-adventure movies.

I end this week like crossing through a minefield (as mentioned in "Latest Remarks"). A cellphone that is broken, a 110v line that is flucuating, the new water tank they installed on early Friday morning to replace a dirty old one, my PC at the mall and buying a new printer... my KODAK camera being repaired to the films that are left waiting to be developed. Keys that were lost but now found. It's been one confusing week.

A Christmas Eve and a Christmas that was there trying to shine in one week of watching movies.

I look for more things to do. Next week is the last week before studies resume at La Salle. The BioSci Group Project and my contribution to it. The upcoming layout of ThirdCharm and Broadjourn Bloggers. The installment of the Broadjourn Yahoo! Group. The splash page updating of the Atheneum Batch of 2002 Website and the upgrade to the A2k2_Clubhouse.

Hopefully I can break free from SMASH and do a little bit more to usher in the new year.
