Just returned from SM Southmall. The trip started this morning when I joined my mom in going to Baclaran for the 1st Wednesday Mass. She always goes every first Wednesday of the month, however, this was only the 2nd time I went with her.
I also wanted to break free from the house and start 2003 with at least a memorable start. January 1, 2003... at church in Baclaran. Already seeing the Metro, and not needing to wait another 2 or 3 weeks to be there.
Crowded! Very crowded. What a day already. Afterwards, we went to SM Southmall in Las PiƱas to see if they could repair my NOKIA 3350. According to the Technician at Wellcom in SM Bacoor, my phone is a dead-set. Nothing can be done about it. Unless we pay an estimated P2,500 at some place called "Semi-Com" at SM Southmall.
So that's how we ended up in Southmall. After enjoying Popeyes Chicken we went to the 2nd Floor past empty stores, closed stores, and stores still going at it with sales.
On the 2nd floor we arrived at [Semi-Com], and inside they had a [Nokia Care] center, the first time I've seen one. I mean I've seen the SMART and the GLOBE and the WELLCOM, but the NOKIA CARE itself?
We got a stub and than we waited. We submitted our phone for a one hour check-up to see if it could be repairable.
One hour later...
After a tiring browse around Southmall (nice day outside by the way, nice and sunny)... we arrived to discover that my 3350 could be repaired but will cost P2,500. However the consultant did not recommend that we repair the phone since it would most likely break easily and it's like putting together a phone and paying fee after fee all the time.
Mom said that I'll just have to use my brother's old NOKIA 3210, which has prooved its worth by lasting this long now (Paul's Nokia 3210 is the longest lasting cellphone our family has had).
I looked at the "old" 3210. I mean, it didn't look that old. It's carrying my brand new SMART supersim 64k. It's holding a lot of messages, it's loading pretty fast, and the shock protector that I bought at SM Bacoor the other day makes it look very sturdy... perhaps more sturdy that the Nokia 5210 itself (Paul's new cellphone). All it needed was more customization. I mean, the LOGO was still my brother's Dragon and a Yin Yang. And the housing I was carrying at that time was the original charcoal one...
A New Housing + New Logo would re-make this phone entirely. ...at least I still have a phone to communicate to others with!
** ** **
My mom will be using my first phone (BOSCH 509), which we thought was extinct already until we found out it just needed a fresh SIM and a new battery.
My brother will continue to use his Nokia 5210.
And for me... I'll set a date to bury my Nokia 3350. Chigh. What I mean is... a day or a blog entry dedicated to a phone that didn't last a year... a phone that was working so fine and than it mysteriously just stopped...
