BEHIND THE FACE MASK
Brodcst Msktir - Mini-Editorial 001

This could very well be the title of a future "Carpe Noctem" or "The Damage Report" in my blog. I'm going to open up my first own "editorial" here at Brodcst Msktir as I review recent events and happenings from around the world to my very own neighborhood.

A BUSH ON FIRE

Of course, I would have to start this off with the biggest issue this year. WAR. A war in Iraq to be opened by the United States and its allies with troops- the Brits and the Aussies. The French are screaming their lungs out at the United Nations and the still, hard-headed and very determined George W. Bush pushes through. Bush keeps saying the strike in Iraq will be swift and strong. Saddam Hussein, on the other hand, disapproves what Bush says and tells the U.S. troops that it won't be swift and strong, it will be DEATH.

I'm not into the heavy politics out there, but I do know that the U.S. is a member of the main Security Council of the United Nations. If the U.S. attacks without the U.N. approval, can't the U.N. do anything about it? What... they'll just stare? I'd like to see what happens.

KILLER VIRUS SPREADS GLOBALLY

Another reason to buy a face mask next time I have the chance to. I'm going to make sure I always have one in the room I'm sleeping in. Who knows when you'll wake up on your bed hearing the sirens from the Municipal Hall or somewhere near. Who knows while you're watching television you're suddenly going to see an Advisory by our President that our nation is under chemical and biological attack. At least we wouldn't be caught in crowds at the Pharmacy.

This virus I've been hearing gives me the jitters. A friend of mine in my Foreigners' Filipino class recently went to Hong Kong. I wonder if he's doing alright under the stress of what is going on over there. Hong Kong, Taiwan, Chinese provinces, Vietnam, Germany, Canada, Singapore, and many places in Southeast Asia including the Philippines have infected people. My dad was originally to arrive in Singapore on the 16th or 17th when his ship docks, and then he'd take a flight to Manila and arrive here on the 17th. The past few days have been the most active days of this disease.

But due to an extention of his ship's stay in the Gulf (yes, that Gulf), he won't be returning to his home port in Singapore until early April. Is this God's way of keeping my father away from harm's direct way?

THE NEW EDITORIAL BOARD

I'm referring to the Heraldo Filipino Batch 18. Naks. Batch 18's leadership is to be decided next week with the Editorial Board examinations. I'm not ready to take them, so I won't be trying at all this year. But I would be very happy to make it as a Junior Staffer at least by the middle of my 2nd Year High School. I am still an Apprentice Writer for Feature and the News section.

My classmates' Maycee Mercado and Eric Salta will be taking the examination. Wait, I'm not sure about Eric. But I'm very sure about Maycee. Personally, I see she has a good chance at becoming News Editor/Coordinator next year. Personally again, how will that work out as I would be a News writer? Yes, I can take orders from an editor. Yes, I can take orders from Maycee. But, what if our presence as classmates in JOU2-1 next year cause friction in our duties? I'm sure Maycee could deal with it, but what if I can't?

For Feature Editor, I would like to have Kuya Marthy again. He's extremely creative and very interesting when it comes to exploring any kind of Feature' article. For Sports Editor, I'm guessing it will be JP Abcede. For Office and Circulation Manager (OCM), it looks like it's going to be Art Vidal from the Art section. For Literary, it could be Richelle or Joanna. For Photo, it could be Ate Winnie or Kuya Jhecc.

And for Editor-in-Chief next year, I have a feeling it will be Kuya JD Apolo. Although I admit we haven't been close at all at any time in the Heraldo Filipino, somehow I know he'll move mountains if he sits as EIC. Another person for EIC could be Ate July Gatchalian, she'll be an AB Comm Senior next year. Maybe she'll grace the Heraldo Filipino in the same way current EIC, Ate Chiqui Amancio is doing.

But all in all, when it comes to the new Editorial Board and the current one, I'm loving the cast. From what the current Editors have said, Batch 17 is "united" compared to the previous batch. I'm hoping the new writers of Batch 18 and the surviving Batch 17 will also be "united" for the betterment of the University Paper. Good luck Maycee!

BROADJOURN2-2

If in any way I had more control about issues such as this, I would hope that Joel, Len, and Abbey would add to a group of incoming shiftees numbering over 20. Therefore, all the new shiftees into Broadjourn could compose one new section... JOU2-2 next year.

52/48 is the digit of JOU2-1 next year, only if the Admin allows it. If not, JOU2-1 will split and be divided into JOU2-1 and JOU2-2. But then again, we don't have control of this. Our fate as classmates are in the hands of "responsible" administrators and faculty.

THE SUMMER TERM

That brings me down to Summer vacation. It's only 3 weeks long, and then another 3 weeks at the end of the Broadjourn Summer Term. I have classes this summer. Three of them to name. And I still don't know exactly how it'll work out. I want to dorm if my schedule has classes everyday in the morning. I don't want to commute from Tanza to DasmariƱas. If no one is dorming on-campus (if it's not so lively) then I'll be dorming (hopefully) at a classmates' dorm outside. I'm thinking about William's dorm if he'd allow.

Again, it would depend on the schedule.

TOUR DE CALABARZON

I'm very willing to go places this summer. Already this past week, I've left the house to return to DasmariƱas. Last weekend, I had the option of going to Cavinti, Laguna where Basil's place is at. But instead of Cavinti, Laguna... I had an overnight stay at Villa Julia's in Silang, Cavite for the AB Comm Channel's General Assembly (in which former Station Manager Ate Raissa Hapin renamed as "G.S.: Gathering of the Stars"). It was together with 25fps. It was fun, tiring, and scary. Imagine being surrounded by upperclass AB Comm students talking about tales of Urban Legends and friends-of-friends experiences. All in this dark and quiet resort with a swimming pool.

And then today, the chance to pass by Tagaytay into entering Alfonso. I didn't go since I have been very tired.

ON NOT HAVING A 2ND HOME

I never realized how not having that "2nd home" inside La Salle had a big effect on me. When I went there last Tuesday, my mind was so stressed out. Aldrich, Lance, Karl, and Brian were all there at the dorm. Basil was in Cavinti, Laguna. I packed up all my stuff from the dorm and it's totally empty and deserted even if I'm still allowed to stay there until the last day of March. Not having that comfort of a "2nd home" and always having that feeling that "home" is somewhere far away... gave me a headache.

I didn't know whether to join my classmates, go to the Heraldo Filipino, fix some papers up, stay at the dorm... OR go to the dorm and go somewhere with them. It was just stressful in adjusting.

THAT YELLOW CARD IN BIOSCI AND CHEM

I'm worried about my Course Card in Biological Science and General Chemistry. In Biological Science, the professor is "normal" and I had a required grade to beat. I did my best on the exam, hopefully it helped somewhat. In General Chemistry, the professor is "happy-go-lucky" with the class, but I failed the Finals exam (as other friends in neighboring Comm section did, and some classmates did too). Will the "happy-go-lucky" professor smile "you passed!" or smile "you thought my smile makes you pass!".

That ends the first editorial-style way I'd like to talk about things that concern me.
