ERIKA ENCHANTED AT EIGHTEEN
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Week #38/3
NOTE: A weekly post made before starting a week of studies at DLSU-D.
"...five days of compulsary summer classes lead this week's agenda..."
I'M not expecting much this week. The HF Year-End Seminar has been postponed and still I'm not sure if I'm included since there are limited slots and there are nearly 40 staffers and apprentice staffers for the HF. Malabo din ang information tungkol diyan so I'm going to "cancel" all expectations of being with the HF this summer.
The past few days have been very boring and I don't mean it in a bad sense to talk about the Holy Week. It's just it was the first time I had absolutely nothing to do at home. There was no internet to surf on and upload like my original plan (the links to "The Inside Pages" of Brodcst Msktir are supposed to be ready now). There was no radio (Magic 89.9) and there was nothing good on television. I watched Moulin Rouge three times, The Ring (Hollywood) once, and The Mummy Returns... nothing helped.

Anyways I'd like to dedicate this week's Carpe Noctem to a member of G7, Erika Carla Ungson. She is the first of the four girls in G7 to turn 18. We went to her house on Sunday evening. It was a semi-reunion of G7... unfortunately Bryan and Candy weren't able to attend. Lance, Erika, Joy, Nikki, Rom, Rachelle, Lorraine, and myself formed the A2K2 there and we were joined by fresh Atheneum graduate Kay.
We exchanged a lot of stories and chit chat. I spoke little I guess. I didn't want to explode into the scene with how my life is in La Salle. Lance, on the other hand, kept talking about his company in La Salle including the likings of the dormitory and the Penshoppe Boys (Aldrich, Karl, Brian...). I've been with Lance the past few months and I know everything of what he's talking about. I'm just not used to letting him spill it all at the table in front of our HS friends. I wanted to talk about "us" not the people we're with these days. It's just me.
Everyone looked fantastic and even if it wasn't a formal debut, the setting was pink and elegant. I didn't recognize Erika's garden. I thought we jumped into someone's big front lawn! It was night time and there were white christmas lights all around and they had catering. Good food... kaya lang I had just gone house to house earlier Easter Sunday in Julugan for the Fiesta so I was full. Ekai, the BBQ reminded me of delicious yaki-tori back from Japan. Mmmm...
We were seated on a round table with a "rose bush and candle" set in the center so you can't really see who's sitting on the opposite side of the circular table from you. I was next to Joy and Nikki. Anyways, the two of them will be enroling for classes on Monday. Rom and his little brother were with us too. Kay, Miss Atheneum 1999, and recent grad at Atheneum also joined us. Lance kept talking to Kay. Meanwhile, the twins were next to Lance and they were silent like usual. I miss these moments.
I told that to Nikki. It was like an episode of Dawson's Creek. They had Dawson's Creek-style music playing in the background and we were all talking at the table.
"Save a glass of coke for Bryan." I said.
"What would Bryan do if he was here?" I asked.
We entered the house and took some pictures before resuming to more chit chat. Erika had guests from DLSU-Manila, her former classmates in AB Literature. Erika by the way is transfering to BS Nursing at Manila Doctors'... leaving Joy and myself as the only Bachelor of Arts majors.
It was getting quite late so we had to leave. I followed Lance to ride with Nikki in going to Nikki's house in Metrogate DasmariƱas. Than we met with Lance's parents. Lance's sister Marchelle was at Nikki's house because Nikki's sister Denise was celebrating her birthday today. Lance's family took me home to Tanza. Thanks Lance!
To Erika, now 18... make it a great year now that you have a new direction in front of you. You'll meet new friends, once again, but always remember we are just right here if you need us.
To a week ahead of increased studying in Philo and Engl102!
