I went to SM Southmall earlier. I bought a few things, perhaps the last set of things to launch off my 2nd Year in College. I failed to buy a book in Constitution at National Bookstore since the lines were so long. But on the otherhand, I did buy a body-bag with sling and two new pairs of white shoes. Actually, these are my first pairs of white shoes. The first one is a comfortable white and blue one while the second one is a more expensive basketball shoe. It don't look like a basketball shoe though. Both are from AND1.
I met with Alex, who happens to be from the area, at ACE Hardware. He told me that he met with Karl while he was cruising the mall earlier. We went around ACE Hardware looking for stuff useful for our dorms. We bought some locks and a new light for the bathroom. I bought my own new locks, and a package of four "push-lights" as seen on TV. It was only 100 pesos for four of them, so I decided to buy a box.
It all compliments with the Linolium I picked out and bought this morning at Tejero. This Sunday, we will be fixing up the dorm. Hopefully this week everything is settled in our room.
We walked around and my parents bought a new air conditioner for the Master Bedroom. That came to a surprise. I bought "Die Another Day" and "The Animatrix" VCDs at Video City.
I also bought a new mouse with a scroller button. It came with this free CD entitled "Ragnarok". About the first ever MMORPG in the Philippines. Cool. We can interact with other Filipinos playing this game on the web. The graphics look great on the covers. I can't wait to try it when I get some free time.
We ate at Kenny Rogers, it was one heavy meal. Then we walked around a little more before returning to our CR-V parked in the basement level.
At home, I unpacked the things I bought from the plastics and then decided to watch The Animatrix. Here are my spoiler-free reviews.
Final Flight of Osiris
- I was surprised this would be the first one to show up on the Animatrix. I know it has to be the last short film of the entire series, but it was first so I had no choice but to watch it. Yes, it was really short. But of course, that's what makes it a short film. This would be the nicest looking one of all the others. The opening fight scene was slick and tasty... and the music and the voice-overs where impressive. They didn't sound awkward to me.
The Second Renaissance Part 1
- I might get this confused with Part 2, but this one explained why the Earth turned out the way it is in the Matrix Trilogy. The storyline is unique and I love it. I wish the Matrix wasn't a trilogy, but some kind of longer saga to incorporate the great details this whole phenomenon has started.
The Second Renaissance Part 2
- The storyline couldn't get juicier. The visual effects are impressive with Part 1 and Part 2.
Kid's Story
- It's quite sad. That's all I can say. This was the first one I saw that was about a certain person within the Matrix.
Program
- The first one that I had to really adjust my eyes to get used to the animation. Another point of view of the whole grand storyline. It's about a betrayal test inside a Matrix program that's on some other ship. Puffy silver hair girl was here.
World Record
- My brother was sleeping and my mom yelled at me because of some sudden changes in volume while I was watching this. I couldn't get most of the speech and the vocals. But by watching the visuals, it's another sad point of view of some athlete who got near to discovering the existence of the Matrix on his own.
Beyond
- I personally loved this one. I know I'm not a big fan of anime, but the kind of anime I like is the clean-graphics looking ones with the detailed backgrounds. CG this and that. Good effects and ambiance. This one had it all. About a girl looking for her cat, in Japan, who happens to stumble upon some kids playing at some "haunted house". The place happens to be an error in the Matrix which must be "re-done". The beginning and the end with the whole street light thing was great.
A Detective's Story
- This one I had to adjust to. The animation here was a bit blurry and had the narrating detective and his comic reliefs at some times. I felt like the visuals brought me back to the 1920s... which I didn't quite get. Old telephones and antique TV sets that provide crisp images of technology and tracking systems. Trinity is seen in this episode. But like the others, this one also has a bit of sadness attached to it.
Marticulated
- Ahh.. the last one. These sentinels emerge from the water towards some facility with some humans in it. It so happens they have found a way to "convert" the machines by giving them the power of "decision and choice" to work for the humans or for the other machines. The visuals here are the furthest ones I could relate with towards the Matrix. But it was unique all-in-all. The concept was there and like the others once again, sadness.
Drama is in the Animatrix. I enjoyed watching them as a supplement to watching the Matrix Trilogy. This whole Matrix thing is still unbelievable. It makes us think twice about the world we live in.
Anyways, that was the day. Tomorrow it gets all haggard again. Goodby weekend which must end so fast. Hello to a whole week of work to do.
