ITALY, ASH, AND FASHION
The Damage Report - Year 2 - Ending Week #33
Background Music:
Modeling Music during the Fashion Expo

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.

LIFE is like a Volleyball game, you gotta learn how to keep score. Nyek nyek nyek! That's what I tried doing on Tuesday morning, after driving to PLS from the dorms. Naks!

I'm bad at keeping score and I'm bad at playing it. What if I end up repeating PHED104?! No way!!

Ash Wednesday - SM Bicutan to Alabang Town Center

We left early and commuted to SM City Bicutan. Huh?! Yes. Tom, Mark, and me joined Leah in going to the Taguig area. We took a jeep to the Waltermart area. We got on a van which got us to Metropolis, Alabang in 30 minutes (Daang Hari). Crossed the street underneath the fly-overs which read "Muntinlupa City" and took a bus to get us to SM City Bicutan. Wow.

The mall just opened and it was nice to explore. Barely anyone was there. We ate at Wendy's and I had my glasses repaired (the nose pad fell off, and I just had both replaced for Php 40.00).

We looked around and Leah dropped us at the cinemas in Building B. Tom, Mark, and I watched MILAN (Piolo Pascual and Claudine Barreto). [hence the reason part of this week's TDR title is ITALY]

The movie was alright. Makes me wish I had a significant other. Piolo's character was really in love with the girl he married... then she takes off and he looks for her in Milan... then he meets Claudine's character... and the two help each other out... and then... well it's a typical love story. But when was the last time I watched one of those?

We ate at Tokyo Tokyo and I had Salmon Teriyaki because it was Ash Wednesday and I'm going to try and follow the rules starting now.

We went around the mall, explored it. It was a mall I haven't been to. Afterwards we commuted to Alabang Town Center. We took a jeep and got off at Metropolis. And from Metropolis we took a Zapote and got off at ATC.

Mark and Tom went shopping, hahaha... at OXYGEN, Tom kept suggesting things for Mark to buy and Mark eventually headed for the fitting room. The only thing I got to buy was slippers from Bench because I've lost two pairs already at the dorm this past month! Arrrg.

They joined me as I had a Mocha Frapp at Starbucks (Tom had a Starbucks Iced Tea). Then we headed for the church across the parking lot at ATC. We attended Ash Wednesday mass in the middle of shopping and looking around, wow.

Ate Kel (former Literary Editor of Heraldo Filipino) saw Tom and me and it was a surprise to see her. Haha. We returned to the mall and bought Tuna Melt sandwiches at this one kiosk and I ordered a fresh Orange Shake from this stall next to Muscle Beach (also a Juice Bar).

We boarded a Dasmari?as, Cavite-bound van and guess who was inside? Kuya Mikoy (CLASC President) and two of his friends also in the council. I had to sit backwards, and it was very uncomfortable inside. I was very dizzy as we took Daang Hari again... imagine that in reverse and at night?

I managed to control myself and not get that dizzy. We got off at the entrance towards bayan and took a jeep to return to La Salle before 8:30pm.

I enjoyed the day with Mark and Tom. It wasn't with the usual tropa... it was with new company.

Thursday - M.A.D. Media-Elections Fashion Expo

There wasn't any REED104, it was left for Confession. I've been feeling a bit more giving to my spiritual side. I mean, on Wednesday I had ashes put on my forehead and I gave up meat. And now confession?

Well, we didn't go! Eric, Leah, and I just roamed the campus to kill time and we also went to the e-house to make the umbrella for our classmate Bianca. It was this umbrella that we covered up with newspapers and attached film negatives on that dangled on the sides.

We rushed to the Tanghalan Julian Felipe and went backstage to take a look at the two representatives of Broadcast Journalism 2nd years... Bianca of JOU2-1 and Abbie, a JOU2 irreg.

Bianca would be wearing our classmate Kay's (designer) katsa, and when we saw it... it was just nice. Bianca would be Model #1 out of the 14, and she's part of the first batch.

Abbie would be wearing another of Kay's designs, this white two-piece, and the lower half was really really long. It sported pictures of... her friends including us! Hahaha. I remember seeing this picture of Len really show during one of Abbie's blockings.

Hershey and her friends in COM2-1 sat next to me and eventually we had to move to the first two rows on the right side. I sat with Tom, then he left to interview Ate Gladice (running for University Student Council president, currently president of the CBASC). Tom returned later. I met Jared and Jenna, two of Tom's friends in Management Accountancy. Leah sat next to me later on. Ms. Sarile, chair of the Communication Arts Department, was sitting right behind us. Ms. Sigari later sat next to her.

My favorite was Model #5 from COM3-4. She just looked sizzling in what she was wearing. She looked like she came from a photo shoot at FHM. And guess who designed her outfit? It's Mark Baquiran, a photographer of Heraldo Filipino!

All the guys roared everytime she ramped down the stage.

Another favorite was Model #7, and information has it she's only a Freshmen. She had perhaps the most artistic and unique get-up of all. She wore this skirt composed of straw hats with postcards of then presidents on it. She had her hair up and had this picture of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo popping out of her hair. Hahaha. Then she had this really long grey hair in a braid that went from her natural hair down towards the skirt of hats.

It was also the way she moved! She should've won Best Model, but it went to the sexy #5.

Tom and I were enjoying what we were seeing. I mean, this was the first time I attended any fashion show at La Salle and it was just fun watching people we know up on stage.

Bianca and I aren't close, but I'm glad she decided to go up there and model Kay's design. Abbie (Model #10), on the other hand, is someone I think I'm close enough to and I was proud she came through and represented for us and also had fun. I wanted her to have fun and have the chance to participate in an event in CAD... because our department is always filled with events... I think this was a great way for her to be welcomed more.

Of the guys up on stage, Best Male Model went to that one guy from COM2-3. Though he was the skinny of the four guys, I think his whole activist look and attitude really showed compared to the other three. One was over-confident, one looked like he was in just for the sake of it, and the other was wearing something that clearly didn't look good on him... but he had cool markings though on his right eye... reminded me of Final Fantasy.

We didn't win, but the sake of representing and being visible again made us champs. JOU2-1 was only represented by Natz and company, the rest didn't show up so we couldn't get any loud shouts and cheers. On my part, I was there to enjoy the show and support my friend Abbie (JOU2 irreg). She had fun, and I'm thrilled she's now really part of our department.

We ate at Ed's place, and the mood was just happy. We watched the video tape (the reason for the low quality digipics this week is because I was video taping the whole thing) at the e-house.

Friday - Watching the Videos in Broadcasting

I missed the first two classes of the day (World Litt and Logic). I wasn't exhausted or anything, but it was one of those mornings where you just have to lie in bed and stare at the ceiling or hide underneath your pillow and just continue dreaming.

In Broadcasting, we watched the six different 30-minute videos from the six groups in the class. We were in the Media Production Room (MPR at JFH 102) and Sir Palad had assigned Teenah and Me to study the Cardigan maker, or the device that produces all the words that appear on the screen. Then it was our responsibility to teach other members of the class.

Sir Palad's comment on our group was that it was dark and he questioned why it was in Sepia. Basically we explained it as a group that it was the desired style we wished to produce. Heheh. Someone told me that Sir mentioned something like our show "Places to Eat 2004" was the most liveliest compared to the others which had dragging interviews. The only problem, once again, was the certain technicalities.

The class also saw my edit of the "FA on Stage - Aiza Seguerra Concert" because it was before the "Places to Eat 2004" on the same tape. Heheh.

After class was dismissed I went outside and hunted for Ella Berba, President of the Communication Program Council and now running under SINAG for CLASC President. I was in-charge of doing the writeup for the CLASC elections and about the whereabouts of STAND-La Salle, a political party that vanished this year due to a collapsed organizational structure.

I interviewed Ella and returned to the kubo to meet my groupmates for the Final Term requirement in Intro to Broadcasting. Our final requirement is to successfully produce a live 45-minute talk show. Other groups are assigned to produce a sitcom, drama, news program, etc. All lasting 45-minutes and it has to be live.

Leah, Eric, and I photocopied some remaining notes in Laws of Mass Media and then Tom joined us as we ate at Inasal. Of course, since it was a Friday, we didn't eat any meat and instead enjoyed Bangus.

I had a Bailey's Frapp, and got a little dizzy. I don't like alcohol with coffee! Coffee is great with milk, cream, and chocolate... but not alcohol even in its smallest form. The bitter aftertaste left me with a headache.

I've been sober from alcohol for almost a month! Well, after that Bailey's Frapp I think I broke it. Don't matter, it's not like I'm not trying to drink. I'm not drinking because I've been caught sick twice this month. A fever at the start of February and now I'm still recovering from that mid-month cold.

We returned to the dorm and I hung out at Mark's Room (B7), Tom's Room (F10), and Aldrich's Room (A5) while my room was invaded by other friends when they watched GOTHIKA, which I'm going to watch next week with my classmates.

Saturday - All for the Sake of Balanced Journalism

I was already there, ready and packed up. My mom and our driver were waiting. And I had just about finished the write-up for my two articles for the Election Newsletter.

It was my article on the CLASC elections and I was finished with SINAG including a statement from Ella Berba, who is running for President. I had the complete information from Partido Independiente (PI) but I didn't have any statements from Aldous Esteban, who is the party's bet for President of CLASC.

I contacted Tony and traced them and ended up at Jatayna's to be introduced to other members of the party, even those from different colleges. I met Marlowe (AB Comm student, running for Business Manager) and Vanessa (of COM2-1, running for Secretary). All of us and Tony went to the ROTC grounds searching for Aldous (PSC2-1, dorm mate Joseph's classmate). We ended up going in circles looking for Aldous... until we found him at PCH 105.

And get this, after all the effort to get a statement from him and not his other partymates... he asks me why not I just get a statement from Tony, Vanessa, or Marlowe? I know he's just asking... but I told him face-to-face that he is the one running for President and his party depends on him to make a statement to counter Ella's statement from SINAG.

Crazyness.

I have no exact idea how Aldous got put up to become the CLASC-Partido Independiente's standard-bearer. I mean, I think his vice president- Nippon Denzo of COM2-2, has a stronger pulse than him. No offense. I'm really for Partido Independiente... but he's up against Ella... the current president of the Communication Program Council and all the fleeting support behind her.

If I remember correctly, those nominated to become the standard-bearer of CLASC-Partido Independiente include the class president of my block section (JOU2-1) which is Cristina Aure... she rejected it because she's thinking about running for the top of the Broadcast Journalism Program Council.

It also included Tony (Antonio Castelltort), but he only stopped or was stopped because he's just a Freshmen student. I think, if Tony wins this year as Public Relations Officer... he'll be a bet for CLASC president in the following year. Tony clearly has all the charisma that Aldous seems to be lacking.

Ahhh! Sigh. I said I hated politics, but look at me now rambling about it. It's just disappointing. Aldous would do better where he is now, an officer in ROTC.

See the rest of my political analysis in next week's "Carpe Noctem".

I got the statements and we rushed home.
