FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS
The Damage Report - Year 2 - Summer Week #5
Background Music:
"If I Ain't Got You (Remix)" by Alicia Keys

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.

LAST week they announced the new editorial board at HF. And this week we made sure we didn't disappoint anybody. From the Managing Editor (Tom) to the OCM (Jaynie), even me (Copy Ed), we kept our hands loaded at the office.

Fishing for applicants

I'm happy that this past week we have successfully launched the new HF Brochure. Wait. It might be the first HF Brochure after quite some time! I finished making the brochure and did the basic layouting of it. Roy (Art staff, supposed Art Editor this year but didn't apply) and Jp (Sports Ed) helped me polish it. Jaynie and Tom had it photocopied at the MRO (Materials Reproduction Office) and voila... we have a brochure!

Not that I want to brag, but it is the first thing I've finished as the new Copy Ed. Kay Mori, fresh Cum Laude of BS Human Bio and former features' staffer, called the office to tell me how she thought it was an effective-looking brochure that will have lots of freshmen signing up for the HF. Jay-E (new Photo Editor) txt'd and said it looked cool.

Sigh. I also had some copies enlarged as to make flyers that can form a poster. We posted it outside HF and I think we exaggerated it!

The others in the office also put up a booth outside the Alumni Building where several other orgs have put up booths. We're working on the recruitment for Batch 19.

On becoming 3-1

On Tuesday we had enrolment for JOU3-1 (3-1 na tayo!!) but I failed to enrol since I couldn't get my clearance to close my accounts from 2nd Year college. It so happens that I haven't payed for the dorm yet for May, so I'm going to enrol on Monday instead.

Cleaning the office

We cleaned the office on Wednesday and Thursday. Anyone who was gone those two days would be surprised on Friday at how clean the office looks. But it isn't even over yet, because we're planning on re-shaping the office and destroying one wall and making another wall for an Editorial Board Room.

Late to bed, Late to rise

Three days of home gym work out last weekend resulted in me falling in love with my double layered bed back at the dorm. I slept past midnight and woke up having difficulty getting out of bed.

Dinner with the cats

Almost every night these past two weeks, I've been joining Leah, Abbie, Camille (Leah and Abbie's room mate), Mark, and Tom at Square Canteen for dinners. They bring food which we heat up in a microwave and we cook rice. I usually try to provide the drinks such as sodas but they'd prefer water. I helped pay for the Andoks contribution recently too. The chicken was good and the food they bring is really good. Mmm..

PUTTING YOUR LIFE ON HOLD
And enjoying one of the craziest, spontaneous summer trips ever

On Friday we were planning on watching "Troy" at Robinsons Dasma. Instead, we followed Abbie (she was already there) at ATC to watch that same movie there.

Troy was a good movie despite Tom and I thinking that it lacked something. I personally enjoyed the movie. It can't be compared to Lord of the Rings because they're two different movies. Troy, to take note, is one of the most expensive films ever made these past few years. Good job.

On the way to Starbucks we passed by (arms-length distance) Luis Manzano. There was this group of people walking and we were passing them. Suddenly as the group had passed, the famous VJ on MYX was busy talking to someone on a cellphone and walked right in front of us. He was wearing blue and looked exactly the way he looks like on TV.

Everyone at the table enjoyed frap except Mark. Abbie enjoyed that one passion fruit iced tea thing that was new at Starbucks. We stayed there just enjoying small talk. Everyone around us was so, what's the word- elite. Mark was obviously bothered by it because he kept silent much of the time. Honestly speaking, I was also bothered. I mean, its not everyday I'm at ATC walking among people who live in Ayala Alabang or Forbes Park in Makati or whatever... the best thing to do was just to relax, be yourself, and not make such a scene at ATC.

We were going to crash at Karl's dorm, so we all decided to go clubbing. But that didn't materialize because we wearn't sure about the new Padi's in Las Piñas. Instead, I suggested we all go bowling and we crossed the mall which was already closed. Abbie and Leah said they spotted a janitor wearing an NSTP t-shirt from La Salle. Woah.

We didn't bowl! Leah and I wanted to, but the others were so-so. We didn't go clubbing, we didn't go bowling... Leah and I wished we were with some of our party-going classmates in Broadjourn at that moment. Oh well.

So the best thing to do was return to Dasmariñas. We went to the vans area and tried our luck at finding a transport at that time of the night. Luckily, since we were six all in all, a driver would drive us back to Dasmariñas for Php 50.00, or 15 pesos more than the usual fare. And at that time of the night, it would be a wise choice.

A while later we were in Dasmariñas and since it was exactly midnight, I suggested to the others if they wanted to return to the campus dormitories (beyond curfew). The curfew is powerless in my opinion. It's summer, and there's only one week left for the summer classes. The highest possible case that couldn't happen to us, which most likely won't happen at all, will only affect our records for the past school year... not the new one up ahead.

Nah.

They didn't want to so we ended up at Karl's dormitory at Villa Isabel. There, we arrived just as Karl parked his new car and got out. We hung out in the parking space in front of that apartment complex under the orange street lights... tired and sleepy.

Karl pursuaded me to drive his car around the block and as much as I was visibly tired and sleepy, I wanted to drive the car just to satisfy my need for fun on a Friday night. I was so disappointed we didn't have fun after watching a movie. I wanted so much to go clubbing or even bowling... but the others didn't want to.

After driving it, Karl asked if we all wanted to go to Tagaytay. I turned pale because after Karl drove us around the block a few times, it was visible that this guy was just too excited to drive a car that was given to him on that same day.

The others wanted to go to Tagaytay and I was an idiot to agree to the idea. It has to be one of the stupidest mistakes I've ever made recently... and it disappoints me because it's so unbecoming of an editor.

But, I don't regret that mistake. Crazy as it sounds. This is the best example with the saying "Ignorance is bliss..." because with risking a bit of my little secured life and taking a breather from all the seriousness of work these past few weeks... what emerged was an oasis of fun in Tagaytay.

We went to Starbucks Tagaytay, and for the first time in my life, I visited two Starbucks' branches in one night. Starbucks ATC and Starbucks Tagaytay. Woah. We didn't order though, we went looking for a bar nearby.

We ended up at Carancho's Bar and Grill which has no view of Taal but the setting was like that of a garden tribal hut. Ed later showed up.
