THE DUEL OF SLOTH AND LOVE
The Damage Report - Year 3 - Ending Week #10
Background Music: "Someone To Die For" by
NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.
THE OPPOSING VIRTUE towards the deadly sin of "Sloth" is "Love", according to our professor in REED105. I've heard sloth is the worst of the seven deadly sins. I also personally believe sloth is the number one sin I've been faced with among the seven.
It's quite funny how LOVE is the opposing virtue. You fight PRIDE with HUMILITY. You fight GREED with GENEROUSITY. You fight LUST with CHASTITY. You fight ANGER with PATIENCE. You fight GLUTTONY with SELF-CONTROL. You fight ENVY and SLOTH with LOVE.
For LOVE is PRODUCTIVE. (When SLOTH isn't.)
The worst feeling in the world is REGRET. I agree with that. Do I have any outstanding regrets at the moment? NO!
Next to regret, I believe the next worst feeling in the world is loving someone who can't or won't love you in return.
I've been there. I've loved someone and that person couldn't even show just a little bit in return. It's draining in all aspects. It drives energy out of you. It makes you feel terrible. It makes your heart beat slow. It makes the world black and white. It makes time so dry, the clock and all the numbers don't make any sense at all.
It's also hard loving someone that goes against everything you thought you knew about yourself. I went thinking I was a loyal, trustworthy, and loving friend- and in the end it doesn't seem to be enough for this person. Wait, before you think any further, this person is someone else from who it sounds to be.
I've encountered these lingering thoughts in my head from time to time over the past few months.
The universe is definitely a spiral. You encounter these thoughts at one point, but then you spiral around and pass that point again... and again... and again.
If I'm to eliminate SLOTH which has damaged my academics (I now understand what Lance said before by needing an inspiration to study) and my health, I have to let this LOVE out there.
You can't keep it in. As it was said in a great movie recently, keeping your feelings in and can make a person go crazy and can make them very sick. LOVESICK.
I think the first step to releasing that built in tension is by yelling:
"I LOVE YOU!!"
Only myself and God knows who that is going out to. It's not towards anyone in the past though.
