THE NEXT CYCLE
Looking ahead at 2006
Every four years there has always been this cycle in which life flows. When I was a kid, I moved to a new US base every three or four years because my dad would be re-deployed somewhere else.
In the Philippines, the first three and a half years evolved around a small school in the crossroads town of Noveleta, Cavite. The place, the people, and the friends there absorbed my culture shock of living in the country.
Then, in June 2002, college began. That's where I learned to speak Filipino, learned to live away from home, and learned certain aspects of responsibilities. There were many decisions, many opportunities.
Today, the next cycle is approaching. For the past few years I've opened up to people, socialized immensely, and developed a passion for the career that I believe I'm driven to build. I have great friends and a life of ups and downs that I can be proud of. I even have an unpublished love story.
I expect more from myself this year. I'm a candidate for graduation this March, a part of the 2nd batch of Broadcast Journalism graduates from our University. I also believe we've had a wonderful and breakthrough year as a program council.
My resolution for 2006 is to gain strength as an independent person. Of course, there are exemptions such as keeping your close friends and your bestfriend with you, but I want to be an independent person that isn't afraid to take risks.
There isn't a vivid picture of what lies beyond graduation. Aside from prospective jobs, there is no clear definition of how far I can get. All I know is that I'm on a rush, running with close friends and a bag filled with love, towards a conclusion of this cycle.
May it be another great year.
