The Damage Report - End of Week #20
NOTE: this is a post that is made to give a summary of events that has happened at DLSU-D during the finished week.
What I can say is that the week has already had two pop-up events in it that we never actually expected to happen. I'll go on with the short synopsis of the previous days.
I arrived in my dorm room with positive energy for the incoming week. However, this positive energy was hindered by a room mate who told me my feelings would get hurt if he explained why he didn't want me to clean the room. I wanted to be fair to him by cleaning the room, because he did clean the bathroom during the first week here at La Salle. But he hesitated and insisted he cleans the bathroom all the time.
What kind of a dorm mate would want to clean the bathroom all the time and not share shifts? One that underestimates his room mates' capabilities. Ouch.
I respect he doesn't want to tell me, but I think it's flat out right there. Wait and See.
Our professor in General Chemistry, the three hour class that begins the whole JOU1-1 Week, finally showed up. He's a pretty nice guy, really looks like a Chemistry teacher. He has a smile in the morning to keep everyone up instead of that dreadful grin other professors would give. We needed someone lively to start our week, and the first morning of the week as well.
Career Pathing was taken up by our section adviser Mr. Palad instead of our teacher Ms. Sigari. Mr. Palad went straight out with inspirational talk and a speech combined about how we must be sure what we're doing as students of Broadcast Journalism.
For the 2nd week in a row, the professor in Intensive English didn't show up.
After a newspaper "game" in English, we proceeded to Ate Angge's to watch "Ghost Ship", this was the third movie in a row to watch at Ate Angge's. However, it's also the last one so far. We didn't go again on Thursday morning (this movie gathering is a tuesday-thursday thing) since it was on Tuesday we arrived late for Sociology again.
In NSTP-CWTSP later on Tuesday afternoon, it was a brief discussion about "Family Care". Tin Tin confessed her problems with her family to the class while Jeremy showed up for the first time, and also left before class had ended.
I spent Tuesday evening with COM1-1 Judith and my room mate Lance. We visited her dorm and then she showed us a nice BBQ place to eat at. I also accidentally found myself in the office of a Printing Press owned by the family of the CDE of HF. I was there to inquire about things relating to the Printing Press and finding the cheapest yet effective ways of establishing a JOU1-1 Newsletter. Which in the end after getting prices made my decision: Powder Xerox.
I'll just dedicate this day to Bb. La Salle. The thing was fast, cheap, but what counted was that we were there to enjoy it. Our classmate Charmagne landed herself as one of seven contestants ranging from first year to third year and from different courses and colleges. Two from College of Liberal Arts, Charmagne being the youngest of the two.
You can read about this event here.
This was one of two somewhat major events this week. Already I might add. Bb. La Salle played songs, two of which caught my attention. The first was "Come on Get up!" which Charmagne revived into the Bb. La Salle. She contributed that song, which was also the song to the "Season finale" of BROADJOURN last Semester.
Two things different on this day. The first was obviously the absence of that "movie of the day". Since we were late for class twice already, we all decided not to watch a movie during the 3-hour break in the morning. Instead we all went to ERS.
Another thing that was different was the actual SWIMMING. Everyone in Broadjourn had this in their heads during Thursday afternoon. I already armed myself with a camera to capture our first visit to the DLSU-D Swimming Pool.
It was only an orientation by the pool, and an optional swim for anyone who brought their bathing suits.
Suprisingly the 2nd major event this week popped out of no where and stole the class from the middle subjects of the day. The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) presented their "Dangal ng Lahing Pilipino". They had these so-called "Components" like FORUM, PERFORMANCE or something like that.
We somehow ended up missing "Pagbasa at Pagsulat" and "Biological Science" (middle subjects of the day) to catch the FORUM for "Dangal ng Lahing Pilipino". I noted it was for CLA students I believe. We were in the air conditioned Auditorium just like it was back last semester during all those orientations.
After some speeches and a film, we got to meet two National Artists that are part of "Dangal ng Lahing Pilipino". Two men in their Senior years held a question and answer session.
We proceeded to Waltermart and ate at KFC... and then we shopped around a bit.
We returned for REED 2, and didn't have to sing "You're a God" by Vertical Horizon like last tuesday. Instead, we finally made use of our handouts.
After REED2, the class split in directions while the ones interested in the CCP Presentation at PLS gathered together and headed for the dormitory area to wait for Upper and myself to reload on supplies. I retrieved my camera.
From the dorms we proceeded to PLS, were I saw the most amount of DLSU-D students in one outdoor area right before me. It was like the Acacia Avenue on pause, then times three. They wearn't letting people into PLS yet so everyone bunched up on the stairs, even the road.
When we finally got to make it inside, Tina led us to great seats... or the best seats in the back. We sat on the steps at the bottom of the stairs leading to the PE Faculty Room. We could see all performances without having to adjust our heads left and right all the time. Good choice Tina!
The performances were so-so with the audience, it was more for the mature crowd and not for the youth of La Salle. Bring out our favorite bands and that's when we'll be roaring. Personally I enjoyed the performance and the feeling of how CCP turned our University Gym into a Theater. Plus seeing a sea of black hair and white chairs, the crowds, seeing people you know pass by in front of you and them not knowing, it was fun.
Photography was prohibited throughout the event, so I saved my camera for after the show where we'd take a picture as a group of Broadjourn (about 10-15 entered, at the end only 6-8 remained). The background would be the masses of students heading for the exit and the lighting was that of a Gym late at night. You've got to give me credit for uniqueness.
We walked back to the dorms and I joined Norman, Joseph, and JP to go to Jatayna's.
I woke up ten minutes before class but it didn't discourage me from going to class. I'm not like someone here who missed all first classes of the morning on that person's schedule! I said to myself I'd rather carry 1/3 an absence than 1 full absence.
The class was basically empty. Only Karl joined me from the dorms. Lance, Basil, Brian, and the new guy Aldrich didn't show up. A Korean and a Chinese student were sitting in class while Karl and I entered. Momentarily, Megan and Eric from last semester's foreign "Sining ng Kommunikasyon" reunited with us here in foreign "Pagbasa..."
We had a full class, even a break. Karl left early though. I returned to the dorms to arrange some papers and spent almost an hour at the Heraldo Filipino office. I submitted my revised articles into Ate July's locker, retrieved some pictures I let Sherilyn borrow, made my Schedule Chart for the HF Office, and added two more ideas for articles in the La SalleƱo X for next year bringing my total contributions up to four articles as of now.
I returned to my dorm room and noticed all the english-speaking club were outside all suited up and cool looking clothes and ready to invade Festival Mall. Then they would go to Island Cove in Binakayan Cavite on Saturday night and stay overnight. Karl is treating all of us out because his birthday is on Monday. However, due to an already problematic conflict between the HF's Grand Research Day on Sunday throughout southern Metro Manila and my Laundry in Tanza... I had to suffocate myself as I told Karl "I really want to... but I can't. I've got to make more sacrifices here."
The whole gang left for Festival, and as I type this they're probably laughing their heads off inside the reserved rooms by the pool at Island Cove. Lance went with them. Just don't do anything stupid you guys.
The dorms cleared up and my pick-up hadn't arrived yet. I decided to conclude my week at La Salle by prooving my room mate wrong about how he sees me as a room mate who cleans too.
I failed to clean the bathroom last semester, I admit that. And you wanted to clean it up last week so you did, and you did a good job on it. But suddenly after you cleaned the bathroom up, you wanted to clean everything else by yourself. Did you think your room mates couldn't also clean things up?
You said it yourself you want to clean the bathroom all the time from now on. I said I'll clean the whole room to balance that work. But you would murmur words thinking I couldn't do it....
Well you said it yourself you get the bathroom to clean, I get the kitchen, and our other roomie would specialize on the electric fans which are really dusty.
On Saturday morning the kitchen was dirty. Look at it now.
Last Semester I swept the floors, took out the trash, and even with the VPAPU-HF conflicts last semester I still kept my territories clean and tidy. My books, papers, my desk are all organized.
And unlike you, I make it to all my first classes of the day.
(we clean this room together. we're room mates. we must be a team.)
Title in Review: "One in a Million" seemed to have carried the tune of the week after Charmagne's participation in Bb. La Salle 2002 last Wednesday.
