The Damage Report - End of Week #22
NOTE: this is a post that is made to give a summary of events that has happened at DLSU-D during the finished week.
One week without posting for so long, and where am I left now? It was a fast week. Andres Bonifacio gives me my weekend back! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
What-a-week! Well, it wasn't exactly as glamourous for Broadjourn like in Week #20 or as exciting as anything last Semester, but it's just a week filled with more of the little things relating to Dorm life.
First of all, I only logged into the Heraldo on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, I don't think I logged out. From Wednesday until today (Friday) I didn't log in. I just didn't get that urge to go there and log in. I was feeling so low about my failure towards the Staffers' Corner. I was given an opportunity to compete with other selected writers to write up the next Staffers' Corner. In the previous broadsheet issues this year, my classmate Eric wrote one "Style or Substance", and then a neighboring AB Comm, Joanne Diaz wrote something about athletes in the exact previous one. Both by the way are First Year. I believe I'm the only first year asked in this round of Staffers' Corner. And I have failed.
I have failed. My first shot "Beautiful Danger" sounded more like an old poetry or a mix between James Bond and Austin Powers. Just bull. I'm not mad at anyone, I'm disappointed at myself! I seemed to have rushed so fast with the News Articles on Week #19 that I've burnt myself and lost the inspiration to write.
On all my news articles, I seemed to have gotten all the facts which is good but the format is all wrong! It's a wreck to the HF. On my Features' article with Kay Mori about the AB Comm, it was okay. It was okay with Kay. Then when it reaches our editor, we have to match our formats to a certain standard. It so happens that standard was already met by my article and even surpassed by Kay's half of the article. I'm not whining here, but things got blurry after that as Kay and I haven't had contact in a long time now (like, the whole week) and the layout is already starting again.
Arrg. And it doesn't stop there. I lend my scores to Joanna, which I recorded from the PRISAA in Week #21. It's in my pocket notebook which happens to carry my notes on the ABDUL IN MANILA episode. Great. The articles are due on December 2, Monday. My notes are probably with Joanna in some other province or city, and I'm caught with this tremendous headache.
To any heraldopeeps that could read this, I'm greatly sorry. I'm not blaming, but I'm frustrating at my errors this week. Fucking moody me again... can't get myself into that office the last three days. Bull.
Academics and Dorm Life greatly increased. Well, honestly speaking, more of the latter. Academics sprawled into the fourth week of the Preliminary Term with lectures, lessons, and what-else. While Dorm Life has greatly improved in all aspects. My corner of the room, my relations with all dorm mates, etc.
Another Interview is asked by INTRO
Last Monday was three hours of General Chemistry in the morning followed by a confusing interview-letter-interview-dean-interview-letter in Career Pathing. And in Intensive English, I met the prof for the first time since she's been absent the first two weeks and last week I was pulled by my own will to watch Harry Potter.
My third roomie, Jan, brought in STAR WARS: OUTCASTS II or something like that. It's a really fun game and from my position in the room I could watch everyone who was playing it. And on Charmed, it was a rerun with the Firestarter kid.
A Birthday before Fashion before Community Service!
After English we proceeded to Ate Angge's house and ate really crispy and tasty chicken! It was great. Classmates were all around. From watching GMA7 in the living room or enjoying CANDY mags in Ate Angge's room, to eating at the dining room. Happy Birthday again Ate Angge!
Other highlights were in Sociology where I invited dorm mates Aldrich and Karl into my class (on-the-spot too) to wear something fashionable so they can help my group out in presenting. It turned out to become a great success and by our 9 month pregnant professor, it was "Spectacular". And in NSTP-CWTSP, we went on-location to Bgy. Bautista for a short re-orientation with our families. I saw Jennieve for the first time, she's the daughter of Ate Rose the family that I'm assigned to.
And of course, on Tuesday night, F3 would be loaded with interested dorm mates who want to watch SMALLVILLE. It's the most popular show on my television set at the dorms. That's when almost all else stops just for that one hour.
I guess i'll die another day!
Last Wednesday was the typical washday. And if I remember, that's the day I started to greatly dislike Biological Science. What was big about Wednesday was my excitement to catch DIE ANOTHER DAY which premiered on that day. I didn't expect it to show that day, so when I found out- I went ALL OUT to invite people and get going to catch the 20th Bond Film.
So right after REED2 I managed to gather Upper, Teenah, and Danielle to join what was supposed to be many of my dorm mates. Instead, I couldn't find JOEL, I don't know where ALDRICH was at, and LANCE was no where to be found. I managed to get at least someone, someONE... his name is Alex from F6 (once again, F1-F11, I'm F3).
Alex is one of three of all the guys at the dorms that I've been distant from. I've been familiar with almost everybody else except Alex. Alex is a ComSci student and is a member of ComSci 1-2. That happens to be the "all star class" as I like to tag because: My high school batchmate Veejay is a member of that class. So are dormers BRIAN from F9, and Alex's room mate ALLEN in F6.
Anyways we headed off to Robinsons IMUS and arrived around 6:10pm. Teenah met with her boyfriend Gaynor while Danielle and Upper formed an instant team as well. Alex and I joked around as the group found itself eating at Jollybee and later taking those sticker picture thingys (i can't believe i forgot the name) in the booth inside AGFA on the first floor.
We entered CINEMA 4 for the 7:15pm showing of DIE ANOTHER DAY. I was so excited by this point that I just kept on joking, talking endlessly to Alex about weird things in the mall and about the movie.
We entered and it was just on time. I mean, we wearn't late. And another thing was, we sat in the center fo the deluxe area, fourth row from the front! The screen was huge. The faces were huge. But it would all be part of the experience of DIE ANOTHER DAY.
***
The movie was just amazing. "It's brilliant to Bond Fans and a thrill to the others who watch it." But to comment on something in the movie was that "Bond has entered the age of Titanic." errr... the Iceburg Tidal Wave scene was now more digital then ever. Meaning, the scene was too good and too exciting- to be true. Other than that, the movie is something I'd grab on DVD in the future.
(and speaking of DVD, Episode II: Attack of the Clones, is now out on tape and DVD I believe. But where is it?)
We arrived in La Salle around 10:15pm, an hour and a half beyond curfew. But Alex and my IDs wearn't taken while the girls' IDs were taken. I don't know how to explain that.
An Addiction to Zeus and an Absence to Swimming!
My addiction to Alex's (Dorm mate in F6) ZEUS game grew today. It's an addictive game on how to design our own cities back in the age of Zeus. I've never been so addicted to a video game in ages now, and I'm glad I've returned to just enjoy that game.
The 3-hour morning break was spent in my dorm room typing up the Written Report to the FASHION thing, the "Spectacular" one from last Tuesday's performance. And the 2-hour break that proceeded was spent in my dorm room watching Jan and Lance play STAR WARS: JEDI OUTCASTS II.
I was ready for swimming and I joined Leah, Upper, Danielle, and Kats (female dormers inside the campus) in wearing just slippers from the Dormitory area to PLS which was like almost a whole kilometer away. We walked under the mid-afternoon sun and arrived at the swimming pool area.
That's where I realized that I didn't have a swimming cap! That's a requirement if you want to be considered PRESENT in the day's lectures and quizzes. I jumped into the pool anyways and practiced as much as I could even If I would later be considered absent. Then the instructor came and I was marked absent along with around 7 or 8 others. Jerson and Ronalyn didn't swim, and about four others didn't have a swimming cap.
I forgot to borrow one. And I was disappointed because I wanted a PERFECT ATTENDANCE for swimming. What a waste! Oh well. I have a make-up quiz next Tuesday with all those marked absent. I'll be swimming twice next week.
After taking more pictures at the pool like the previous weeks, I arrived around 6pm to the dormitories thinking I was late going to the gym. It so happened that nobody went to the gym that day. I just played more ZEUS in the evening and ate out at FIAT with Danielle and Upper (and missed The Amazing Race 3 on studio 23).
After eating at FIAT, I dropped the two girls to the lobby and I bought myself a hot cup of milk coffee for ten pesos. I went to the dorm to join Alex in F6 again in ZEUS when I convinced him to get a cup of coffee too. On our way back to the dorm, I encountered G7 Candy! Her hair is short now, she's moved on to the "College Look" I've been talking about. We spoke for a while and catched up on events and issues.
Those Damn Quizzes again!
Day of the Quizzes. For the 2nd Friday in a row, all subjects were loaded with QUIZZES. In Elementary Statistics it was part-disaster part-ok. In Pagbasa for my classmates, Mr. Garcia was busy in a meeting so they didn't have class.
We enjoyed a breakfast at Brejanah Cafe and studied for Biological Science at the kubos. During the BioSci test, it was only "PART ONE" and involved three problems on a one-whole sheet of yellow pad paper. Mitosis, Meiosis I and Meiosis II.
Another break allowed me to retreat to the dormitory and watch JP (from F7) play ZEUS, then he let me play ZEUS. Aldrich (from F5) walked in with some Doritos Salsa (the green one, my favorite) and loud Basil (from F9) came in time to time. I managed to stop playing 10 minutes before REED2 at 2:30pm. I swear, TIME MOVES FAST WITH ZEUS.
The quiz in REED2 was ok and the lesson Mrs. Planas gave out was interesting once again. REED teachers are different, they're so different... they all seem to have something super special.
I went back to the dorms to play ZEUS more and pack up to get picked up. No classes on Saturday! I invited Aldrich (from F5) to ride with us. Lance ate out at FIAT or somewhere outside with the people not-moving out on Friday, and I cleaned up my corner of the room and sprayed it with Lemon scent. Ahem. *cough*
We got picked up and I asked mom and the driver to drop Aldrich in General Trias.
Now what is with Aldrich?
Aldrich joins Lance and I in backgrounds. Let's put it this way.
GEORGE
- Father retired from the US Navy.
- Last station was at Camp Hansen in Okinawa Japan.
LANCE
- Father retired from the US Army.
- Last station was at Fort Erwin in Southern California.
ALDRICH
- Father is two years away from retirement.
- Father is currently serving the US Air Force.
- His parents and younger sister are currently station at Andersons Air Force Base in Guam.
Aldrich by far everyone I've met in the past four years is the closest one I can relate with. He's visited Okinawa. We've both visited South Korea. We both remember so many details and things about the US Armed Forces of the Pacific that we can recall the same little laundry shop behind the Gate at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea!
This is far closer then my background relations with Lance. Lance has nothing much to do with the Asia-Pacific US Bases.
Anyways, Aldrich is also more talkative. He could go on and on about something and I could relate with it well. In fact, the whole trip from Dasmariñas to the Bayan of General Trias was spent talking on and on about "the little things" of being dependents of US Armed Forces.
We dropped him off at his house, which is situated on a main road towards the Bayan of General Trias. Orange gates, but it was dark so it didn't really matter.
He's a new dorm mate at La Salle and I introduced him to my whole class during Sociology last Tuesday.
***
We arrived home on Friday night and I caught the last third of the recap episode of Survivor Thailand. Glad I did, so I'd understand what's been going on recently.
And that ended this long but odd week.
And on another note. I barely mentioned HERALDO FILIPINO at the end of the week.
It's suicide. I need inspiration for next week to slap me back into action.
Blind Item:I'm one of you too, remember that.
Title in Review: "It's getting cold in here.". La Salle Dasmariñas and the rest of town of Dasmariñas enters cold weather. It's sunny, but it's still cold. It's close to December now and it's the last week of November. The title can also explain my participation in the HERALDO FILIPINO this past week. I seem to lack balance and focus with the HF this week and my academics. My week fell more for Dormitory life relating to Alex and Aldrich, as well as the female dormers on several dinners out and movies. And of course, DIE ANOTHER DAY is a movie that focuses on ICE.

Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Start of Week #22
NOTE: this is a special weekly posting that is made prior to moving back to my dorm in La Salle. it is about upcoming events this week and notes on it. this is usually posted on sunday afternoons.
Dad's package finally arrived, after over a month from getting from the USA to the Philippines. My brother Paul received his Gamecube with two games namely Super Smash Brothers Melee and Luigi Manshion. Both games are alright, it's just the thrill of it wasn't that strong.
Part of me said, a lot of money went into his Gamecube, two games, extra controller, etc. Then it should be all fun and excitement but it's all just "cool, we got one now". I didn't attach myself too much to his Gamecube, I attached myself to the simple things that can really affect my life.
How asking my dad to sending me rolls of camera film and a whole pack of VHS tapes. I am a media junkie! Just four rolls of KODAK film, 24 shots each, is enough to drive me to take pictures till January or February of next year! No more worries for "lack of film". And with VHS tapes, five of them in a pack, I can record my favorite shows and edit tapes without worrying about "lack of tapes".
He sent me a nice black t-shirt and the only "specialty" item is a brand new wrist watch. I kind of wanted a Digital and Analog clock in one, but all I got was an Analog. I'm still having trouble re-adjusting into reading the Analog hands.
Slim Jim beef jerky, Pop Tarts, are some snacks to name. And one trip to the foreign goods section of Robinsons Imus bagged us TicTac Orange in packets, Kraft Mac'n'Cheese, and Countrytime Lemonade in a Soda can.
My room is stocked with foreign goods this past weekend.
I spent all of today playing GAMECUBE while I can before another week of College life begins. Sunday is the only time I can relax from the busy life at La Salle.
Anyways, this upcoming week is headstrong in Academics. Heraldo Filipino articles aren't due until the first week of December. It's also a week filled with birthdays. Emil Baysa was yesterday (Saturday, November 23) while tomorrow November 25th is Cindy's, as well as G7 Bryan's birthday, and on the 26th is Ate Angge's birthday.
Advanced to all the birthday celebrants this week.
I'm packed now and ready to return into La Salle. The night time life of moving in. It's no longer those Monday morning rush like last semester, but instead a dark, cold, and often bumpy road to Dasmariñas.
By the way, the Christmas Lights are up. Not as exciting as last year or the year before, but at least we're still putting them up.

The Damage Report - End of Week #21
NOTE: this is a post that is made to give a summary of events that has happened at DLSU-D during the finished week.
A week has almost ended and I've decided to do this post now because my weekends are really short. Sometimes I even think of staying at La Salle non-stop since going home and staying home is too short. I only spend one night at home and the other six nights are in the dorm room.
This past week has been a stir between rain and sun and the typical classes.
Heh-ree Pah-tah!
I reserved my Monday morning for extra sleep since the "ABDUL IN MANILA" or HF-trip the previous day (Sunday) was physically gruelling and demanding. General Chemistry (Mondays, 0700-1000) is the first class I was absent in.
In the afternoon, some classmates surprised me when they decided to skip our Intensive English class and make a run for Robinsons Imus to catch "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". The original plan was to depart La Salle at 1500 hours after our Intensive English class, but they decided to skip it.
I didn't argue and lived in the moment and joined a small group of classmates. It started to rain, and it would be like this the rest of the week. Rain and shine, rain and shine, rain and shine...
We arrived at Robinsons and ate at Jollibee, then we watched HP2 at Cinema 2 around 1430 hours. We were situated on the deluxe seats at the bottom.
The movie was great, just as exciting as the first one. However, I believe those who have read the HP series would enjoy it twice as much as they see what they've read appear on the big screen. I'm looking forward to start reading the HP series this Christmas season.
The magic didn't end yet, arriving at the dorm around 1900 hours and then watching an emmy-nominated Buffy musical episode "Once More, with Feeling", was the Season Finale of the 4th Season of Charmed, "Witch Way Now?". I enjoyed the whole Monday, one day of magic.
Onwards to the West Campus!
PRISAA!!!! Ahhhh. I didn't expect I'd be directed by the HF Sports Editor, Ate July! Eric and I were just in the quiet office logging in when she suddenly barged in and asked us to help her cover the PRISAA (provincial private schools sports competition, a biggie this week in the Sports realm of DLSU-D).
Quickly Eric ran off to PLS and I joined Ate July to the Track and Field (Oval) where I would collect the scores. Classmate Meann (JOU1-1) was there running.
It was one hot morning and we missed Sociology, although according to classmates nothing happened in Sociology other than getting assigned a one-week project by group.
NSTP-CWTSP wasn't to take place at SBC, but instead underneath the still-incomplete Grand Stand behind the Oval. The GDO! A hidden series of classrooms... strange place... like one you would see on a Counterstrike map. Sheesh.
Blood was drawn... I hate blood. I got pricked in the finger just like everyone else did.
And in the evening I joined Ben and Argent to the Gym. Our work out concentrated on Chest and Abs this time. That would be my 2nd time to that gym.
Changing that Registration form!
A full load of classes and I also confirmed dropping my Pagbasa. It would officially be standing outside of our beloved Core JOU1-1 class. Only in Pagbasa classmates, I'll be out for a break or studying for BioSci. Promise.
With the adding and dropping, I got a new registration form. Minus three units, Add three units... no extra payment other than a P25 transfer fee or something. "TRANSFEE 25.00".
Our class president got sick, and in the evening my classmates Upper, Badge, Danielle and I formulated the Broadjourn Dormers' Night out which will be on Wednesday nights. Invited are all dormers in our class, so we'd go out for dinner. We went to FIAT. After dropping Badge to her dorm, Danielle, Upper, best friend Joel, and I went into the campus and Upper suggested we take a spooky walk towards the dorm by going around PCH and the battlegrounds during the dark! Then after that, Joel and Upper combined pushed Danielle and I with them to go behind the SBC/LCDC building in the dark and to exit at the ERS sidewalk.
It was adrenalin and fun, Danielle and Upper cuddled up as we walked in the dark.
Do you know how to swim?
Swimming frenzy! We had a 6 1/2 hour break since Sociology gave way. English at 0700-0830 while PE-Swimming from 1500-1700.
We waited it out at the Batibot and played Truth or Dare like little kids, I got Kate to do the UP Oblation statue for 10 seconds. We proceeded into PLS thirty minutes before our swim class to prepare. We were all excited. It started to rain a little. PRISAA continued inside the main Gymnasium complex.
We got into the Pool grounds and slowly started to get ourselves ready. Slowly we began to bare it all... it was all fun. Moments later many were already in the cozy swimming pool and the sun came out just in time.
We had our first lessons, about floating. I borrowed dorm mate Joseph's swimming cap. I didn't know I probably looked like a floating Condom with it on since the color of his swimming cap was dirty white and it was made of silicon which gave it that shiny look.
I could only GLIDE 1/3 of the way while others could do it 1/2 or 3/4 the way to the end. I think we all got passing marks.
We slowly dried off and I took the camera out for some fun shots. A Unisex shower and a series of stalls in the back was the scene. A unique scene too. You can hear our classmates' voices saying "pass the soap"... "pass the towel"... "wait for me".
After swimming, I went back to the dorms with Tina and then in our dorm complex, I rushed to get ready to go to the gym.
On my 3rd time to the gym, 2nd Year Psych, Ben, is my workout partner since we started almost at the same time. Suddenly, my room mate Lance, Alex of F6, Vince (lance's classmate in PPT1-7, one of 3 new dormers) also of F6, and Joel of F11 also joined us. We were eight people together with the somewhat experts Argent of F8 and Kurt of F11.
We went to the gym and for Ben and I it was time to work on the Back muscles and the triceps, as well as the abs since we did use that machine.
For the first time of the three trips to that gym, I started to sweat heavily on the Hammer Pull-Back machine or whatever they call it. The position we had to use that machine was something I've tried before.
Argent and Kurt went ahead of us since they finished early. Ben and I waited for the other four to finish and then we returned via jeepnee 200 meters away to the main gate of DLSU-D. Since I wanted to watch "The Amazing Race 3" and it was already starting, I gave money to Lance to buy dinner for me from FIAT. I went with Alex and Vince back into the dorms and I joined my third roommate Jan in the room.
I didn't miss anything of the show! Only the "Previously on TAR3" and the "TAR Credits", then a commercial.
Day of the First Quizzes!
All four subjects today had quizzes in them. Although that would be three subjects for me since Pagbasa is out. On Thursday night I ran out of energy and motivation to study for these quizzes, so it was karma on my first quiz of the day.
I walked out after ElemStat during Core JOU1-1's Pagbasa at Pagsulat class and headed into the dorm with some Siomai and Calamansi to see Lance and Jan on the PC.
I found out my bed must be the last place to study during any morning hours. I will instantly melt onto the bed and fall asleep! I was only kept awake by the laughs of Lance and Jan while they played Age of Mythology.
In BioSci, a 10-item quiz followed by a lengthy and confusing discussion about chemical formulas (i know, it's bio, but plant and animal cells was the topic). I can't see how Aldrich, Karl, even G7 Nikki could handle so many of these damned elements and study about them! Ahhhh!
But in fairness, we are all different people pursuing different things. I wish all friends in the Science-related courses out there "Good luck and have fun in your respective fields!".
Anyways, we ate at Brejanah Alley (aside from Brejanah Cafe up front) like old times. Then our with the REED-2 handouts as we studied the references and gospels.
Class took place, a quiz, an interesting Jewish song sung by Barbara Straisand, and a few words of inspiration before Ms. Marianne Planas, owner of a Photocopy shop outside ("Yahweh's Cave") set us free and closed the week for my classmates.
I headed for the dorms with Eric to return to him the Newsweek mag he left with me after swimming yesterday. Then I joined Aldrich and Lance inside F3 to where I began typing on the computer a "BROADJOURN BLOGGERS: A guide for bloggers and future bloggers of broadjourn".
That's when Lance decided to surf at ERS for the 5pm batch and voila we're here at ERS. Dorm mate Aldrich started a blog and so far I've convinced him to post several things already. Lance is tweaking his blog as well.
Again, my week at DLSU-D doesn't technically end until 1100 hours tomorrow morning. But due to lack of time this weekend, I wanted to do this Damage report now. Tomorrow I'm officially in the FILI103 class for foreigners. Poetry, words, and assignments await for three hours tomorrow morning. I go home around 1300 hours tomorrow.
A great week. Physically demanding last Sunday (Abdul in Manila), physically involved last Tuesday and Thursday (gym), physically underwater last Thursday (swimming). PRISAA, we can't forget that too.
Title in Review: "Once more, with feeling" is the title of last monday's emmy-nominated Buffy episode. I guess I couldn't find any other title. One of the original titles was "A touch of magic" but that would only apply for Monday. I guess the title can explain each repetition at the gym... (e.g. "....7....8...9..... one more.... 10....) -LOL. The title works for me this week.
Thursday, November 21, 2002
Thursday. Swimming Day. And Broadjourn scattered and displaced due to a certain prolonged break. If 5 hours is the accumulated Thursday break time, try 6 1/2 hours. Sociology is out and that left 0700-0830 English this morning, and 1500-1700 Swimming this afternoon. My classes today are from 0700 to 1700, outstretched for just two classes!
I thought the break would be enjoyable, but now I feel like I'm pleading to have class. I am so bored. So bored that I created a little game for those in the Heraldo Filipino office who want to search for a clue I snuck into the office this morning. I left the office and I don't know how it turned out or is turning out. Eric is right besides me here at ERS, I didn't tell him I made a game. He could just read it from here or find out later.
After logging into the HF, I found myself with Maycee rushing to the East Campus to interview Ate Dhona of the 4th Year AB Com for some article about Taekwondo. PRISAA is still taking place this week by the way. I've been out of load for nearly two days and I wanted so badly to find my classmates and hang out with them. But they were no where to be found! I walked outside to buy some load at Yahweh's Cave (Photocopy shop owned by our Re-Ed 2 Professor) and proceeded into an empty Brejanah Cafe reloading and txting like crazy.
To Tina, I txt'd her "Get Well" (she got sick in the middle of this week) while to Badge and Upper, I txt'd them about the possible trip to Robinsons later to watch "Harry Potter 2" (again, but I want to grasp the story if i watch again). It turned out we wouldn't be going, tomorrow I guess.
On my way into La Salle from Brejanah, I encountered Badge, Jessica Mendoza, and Kate Mamon. They needed to complete interviews for their Sociology group (my contribution to the group i'm assigned to is to find three girls with nice outfits and interview them about it). We went to 7-11 to interview some Koreans and then we went to the Kubo inbetween of ERH-JFH to just sit. There I decided to read Badge's Newsweek magazine (our English class this morning demanded we bring magazines by groups).
And afterwards we went here to ERS to surf for the 11 o'clock batch.
Boring. Yawn. My company is perfectly fine, but it's just the mood. There's really nothing much to do that's demanding right now. Heraldo Filipino... I've submitted my revised articles already. For the La Salleño Christmas Edition, I found out Kuya Marthy has set the due date not this week but on the first week of December. With Academics, it couldn't get any lighter than how it is now with all these breaks.
This afternoon is swimming where we bare it all! I'm hoping 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock will be the splash of life today.

The Heraldo Filipino on a Grand Research Mission in the Metro
The most extraordinary experience I've had in Metro Manila took place last Sunday, November 17. It was just awesome how I got to feel the city for once by exploring places I've never been to. It's like The Amazing Race but not exactly that much running.
I was lazy to attend, but I had already sacrificed not spending time with birthday celebrant Karl from the dorms who had reserved a room at Island Cove for a night of drinking and partying. I also didn't want to attend because I was having complications shifting my clothes and bags from our house in Tanza to Dasmariñas. But I still knew I had to go, so I went for it.
SM City Bacoor at 0800 hours and I first encounter Angelo, also from Tanza and a photojournalist for the HF. We waited for a while in front of the main entrance which was open for a mass,
then he decided we wait at the other entrance, which faces the highway. So we proceeded there to meet with Paul, Jhecc, Winnie, and a few others.
Barely anyone was showing up, none of the Editorial Board had arrived.
After the departure was originally set to be around 0800 hours, we only started forming before the mall opened around 1000 hours. Kuya Marthy finally arrived and with him were only ten other people consisting of photographers, writers, and art staffers... mostly fellow apprentices.
Since the purpose of this trip was to research in the city for the La Salleño this December, I won't be providing too many details here (due respect that this is the first time I'm using the internet at the Heraldo Filipino office and I feel like this PC could go any time some important article needs to be printed or edited...)
Three teams formed. TEAM INTRAMUROS were Kuya Marthy, Eric Salta, Winnie, and Oliver. TEAM COASTAL were Marvin, Roy, Joanne, and Angelo. And the smallest team was TEAM RECTO consisting of photographer Jhecc, Apprentice Feature Writer Paul, and myself.
TEAM COASTAL stayed at Coastal Mall where we enjoyed a McDonalds Brunch. TEAM INTRAMUROS and TEAM RECTO proceeded into the Walled City. We joined TEAM INTRAMUROS to give them manpower I guess. Our "boss", Kuya Marthy, brought us into the streets of the Walled City. I passed by San Augustine Church, the one I visited back in my 2nd Year Field Trip in High School.
The three of us in TEAM RECTO were told to disperse around 1400 hours and we headed for RECTO. I was introduced into the street lifestyle of this place, fake diploma-makers, second-hand book sellers, and several other stores throughout the University Belt area. Again I'll reserve the details to respect the researching Jhecc, Paul, and I did for the next issue of the La Salleño.
After RECTO we proceeded to DIVISORIA. My first time there! And the weather went from sunny to worse... to rain and lots of it. Imagine this place when it's raining and there were so many people. Physical contact to the person in front of you, behind you, and the ones' side to side moving against you. I lost Jhecc and Paul for about 3 minutes and I stood there wondering where the hell do I go to avoid the rain because all the shelters were loaded with people.
The conclusion of the DIVISORIA episode of last Sunday ended in sunshine as we headed into QUIAPO. This place was also awesome. Honestly, I felt it to be more developed compared to the markets of DIVISORIA. Virgin Mary statues and Religious figures, herbs, side by side with stalls of Pornographic material. We passed by Quiapo Church and I'll try to add that into my articles.
After Quiapo, we were told to meet with TEAM INTRAMUROS at Robinsons' Ermita. We proceeded there and passed by La Salle Manila, the Taft area. In Ermita we ate at Cinnabon's, and it was my treat to boost morale in our little group of three who I believe probably had a little more of the dirty work with all these marketplaces compared to the TEAM INTRAMUROS visiting of Ayala, Glorietta, and the like.
I treated all of us to five Cinnamon sticks which costs P60, then when I ordered one Iced Tea the price went up to P110! A P50 Iced Tea?!
I bought my Swimming Trunks at the Robinsons' Department Store in Ermita, and Moonstar 88 were performing I believe down the stairs. We found out that the other teams won't be going to Robinsons Ermita and instead they'd be at Glorietta. I could tell someone in the group was pissed off but couldn't express it, what a memory.
We found ourselves a few minutes later watching the sunset of Manila Bay. Jhecc took pictures, Paul conducted an interview of a bystander, and I gathered experience and absorbed it for portions of a future article. This would be how it would go. A good team I guess. We all had jobs, we were a unit... TEAM RECTO! The other teams also had their share of course, but I don't know how they did it exactly.
We proceeded to Malate and there we went around for a while exploring the place. Not much to interview. From happy familes to something you'll soon find out in the next La Salleño, amidst the splashing of the water fountains. We walked a lot in the dark alleys of this place, which was scary but memorable, and once again something new to experience.
We were told by Oliver (TEAM INTRAMUROS) to proceed to Star City at 2000 hours. We were at Malate around 1900 hours already so we waited there. We proceeded to Star City and found out through the cellphone by Oliver and Winnie (TEAM INTRAMUROS) that they were at Coastal Mall already (final destination prior to returning to Cavite). Confused as we were, we felt late for everything. It was 2030 hours and the time to be at Coastal Mall was around this time. We felt confused! We were told to go to Star City, so we walked from Harrison Plaza in the dark and under the street lights and across a few streets and across the dark lawns of the CCP Complex to find out we had to go to Coastal Mall "Now na".
I told them we need to get a Taxi Cab immedietly to make sure we'd reach it in time. I managed to convince them and in no-time we were walking across the street and entering the Coastal Mall area. Joanne (TEAM COASTAL) was with her father inside McDo, it was around 2040 hours. That's when we found out that TEAM INTRAMUROS, who told us to go to Coastal Mall "Now Na" were actually at Star City all this time.
It was frustrating, but like I always say in this entry... it was an experience.
It was a very enjoyable trip, and I'm sorry I couldn't make it detailed... it's just it'll be in the HF.

Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Start of Week #21
NOTE: this is a special weekly posting that is made prior to moving back to my dorm in La Salle. it is about upcoming events this week and notes on it. this is usually posted on sunday afternoons.
I will only sleep for 3 1/2 hours so I must hurry with this Carpe Noctem!
Heraldo Filipino will open the week up starting 8am Sunday, and that's like 7 hours from now. And what... I just finished my previous week 12 hours ago. And we're entitled to a 50 hour weekend, WTF?!
Ok, I'm losing sanity here.
Anyways, this incoming week is hard to forsee. If last week I didn't expect a Pageant and Cultural Arts of the Philippines to pop into my life... than this week will also be unpredictable. The only thing I can remember is that on Monday it's the Season Finale of Charmed, it's an emmy-nominated episode of Buffy, we plan to watch "Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets" after Intensive English, and that it's also Karl's birthday.
Other events this incoming week would include continued support for the HF through article-revising. Working out at the gym with dorm mates on Tuesday and Thursday, or on whatever "other day" there is such as Wednesday and Friday.
The AB Com Channel also leaps back into action this week, iono what's going to happen exactly but I do know that there's a meeting this Monday at 10AM.
Oh, and in other news... hello breakfast! I've finally purchased a nice water heater! Here comes in hot soup, coffee, and other goods with heated water! I also got 4 cans of Mountain Dew and a bag of chips!
On Thursday it'll be swimming, hopefully I'll have swimming trunks by then... I'm hoping to buy one during the Grand Research later on Sunday.
** ** **
Hopefully HF loosens it's grip after the Grand Research Day in the southern metro. I'm praying that this will be educational, inspiring, and of course fun. I'm worried it might turn out into this extremely serious thing. Anyways, that starts in a few hours so let me sleep......
Title in Review: It's my favorite song lately and it's from U2. I guess I can relate it is to how the AB Com Channel is back in action, electricity will now not only provide light in the room and energy for the fridge but also as a heater for water, and bringing a cellphone to manila is in question...
The Damage Report - End of Week #20
NOTE: this is a post that is made to give a summary of events that has happened at DLSU-D during the finished week.
What I can say is that the week has already had two pop-up events in it that we never actually expected to happen. I'll go on with the short synopsis of the previous days.
I arrived in my dorm room with positive energy for the incoming week. However, this positive energy was hindered by a room mate who told me my feelings would get hurt if he explained why he didn't want me to clean the room. I wanted to be fair to him by cleaning the room, because he did clean the bathroom during the first week here at La Salle. But he hesitated and insisted he cleans the bathroom all the time.
What kind of a dorm mate would want to clean the bathroom all the time and not share shifts? One that underestimates his room mates' capabilities. Ouch.
I respect he doesn't want to tell me, but I think it's flat out right there. Wait and See.
Our professor in General Chemistry, the three hour class that begins the whole JOU1-1 Week, finally showed up. He's a pretty nice guy, really looks like a Chemistry teacher. He has a smile in the morning to keep everyone up instead of that dreadful grin other professors would give. We needed someone lively to start our week, and the first morning of the week as well.
Career Pathing was taken up by our section adviser Mr. Palad instead of our teacher Ms. Sigari. Mr. Palad went straight out with inspirational talk and a speech combined about how we must be sure what we're doing as students of Broadcast Journalism.
For the 2nd week in a row, the professor in Intensive English didn't show up.
After a newspaper "game" in English, we proceeded to Ate Angge's to watch "Ghost Ship", this was the third movie in a row to watch at Ate Angge's. However, it's also the last one so far. We didn't go again on Thursday morning (this movie gathering is a tuesday-thursday thing) since it was on Tuesday we arrived late for Sociology again.
In NSTP-CWTSP later on Tuesday afternoon, it was a brief discussion about "Family Care". Tin Tin confessed her problems with her family to the class while Jeremy showed up for the first time, and also left before class had ended.
I spent Tuesday evening with COM1-1 Judith and my room mate Lance. We visited her dorm and then she showed us a nice BBQ place to eat at. I also accidentally found myself in the office of a Printing Press owned by the family of the CDE of HF. I was there to inquire about things relating to the Printing Press and finding the cheapest yet effective ways of establishing a JOU1-1 Newsletter. Which in the end after getting prices made my decision: Powder Xerox.
I'll just dedicate this day to Bb. La Salle. The thing was fast, cheap, but what counted was that we were there to enjoy it. Our classmate Charmagne landed herself as one of seven contestants ranging from first year to third year and from different courses and colleges. Two from College of Liberal Arts, Charmagne being the youngest of the two.
You can read about this event here.
This was one of two somewhat major events this week. Already I might add. Bb. La Salle played songs, two of which caught my attention. The first was "Come on Get up!" which Charmagne revived into the Bb. La Salle. She contributed that song, which was also the song to the "Season finale" of BROADJOURN last Semester.
Two things different on this day. The first was obviously the absence of that "movie of the day". Since we were late for class twice already, we all decided not to watch a movie during the 3-hour break in the morning. Instead we all went to ERS.
Another thing that was different was the actual SWIMMING. Everyone in Broadjourn had this in their heads during Thursday afternoon. I already armed myself with a camera to capture our first visit to the DLSU-D Swimming Pool.
It was only an orientation by the pool, and an optional swim for anyone who brought their bathing suits.
Suprisingly the 2nd major event this week popped out of no where and stole the class from the middle subjects of the day. The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) presented their "Dangal ng Lahing Pilipino". They had these so-called "Components" like FORUM, PERFORMANCE or something like that.
We somehow ended up missing "Pagbasa at Pagsulat" and "Biological Science" (middle subjects of the day) to catch the FORUM for "Dangal ng Lahing Pilipino". I noted it was for CLA students I believe. We were in the air conditioned Auditorium just like it was back last semester during all those orientations.
After some speeches and a film, we got to meet two National Artists that are part of "Dangal ng Lahing Pilipino". Two men in their Senior years held a question and answer session.
We proceeded to Waltermart and ate at KFC... and then we shopped around a bit.
We returned for REED 2, and didn't have to sing "You're a God" by Vertical Horizon like last tuesday. Instead, we finally made use of our handouts.
After REED2, the class split in directions while the ones interested in the CCP Presentation at PLS gathered together and headed for the dormitory area to wait for Upper and myself to reload on supplies. I retrieved my camera.
From the dorms we proceeded to PLS, were I saw the most amount of DLSU-D students in one outdoor area right before me. It was like the Acacia Avenue on pause, then times three. They wearn't letting people into PLS yet so everyone bunched up on the stairs, even the road.
When we finally got to make it inside, Tina led us to great seats... or the best seats in the back. We sat on the steps at the bottom of the stairs leading to the PE Faculty Room. We could see all performances without having to adjust our heads left and right all the time. Good choice Tina!
The performances were so-so with the audience, it was more for the mature crowd and not for the youth of La Salle. Bring out our favorite bands and that's when we'll be roaring. Personally I enjoyed the performance and the feeling of how CCP turned our University Gym into a Theater. Plus seeing a sea of black hair and white chairs, the crowds, seeing people you know pass by in front of you and them not knowing, it was fun.
Photography was prohibited throughout the event, so I saved my camera for after the show where we'd take a picture as a group of Broadjourn (about 10-15 entered, at the end only 6-8 remained). The background would be the masses of students heading for the exit and the lighting was that of a Gym late at night. You've got to give me credit for uniqueness.
We walked back to the dorms and I joined Norman, Joseph, and JP to go to Jatayna's.
I woke up ten minutes before class but it didn't discourage me from going to class. I'm not like someone here who missed all first classes of the morning on that person's schedule! I said to myself I'd rather carry 1/3 an absence than 1 full absence.
The class was basically empty. Only Karl joined me from the dorms. Lance, Basil, Brian, and the new guy Aldrich didn't show up. A Korean and a Chinese student were sitting in class while Karl and I entered. Momentarily, Megan and Eric from last semester's foreign "Sining ng Kommunikasyon" reunited with us here in foreign "Pagbasa..."
We had a full class, even a break. Karl left early though. I returned to the dorms to arrange some papers and spent almost an hour at the Heraldo Filipino office. I submitted my revised articles into Ate July's locker, retrieved some pictures I let Sherilyn borrow, made my Schedule Chart for the HF Office, and added two more ideas for articles in the La Salleño X for next year bringing my total contributions up to four articles as of now.
I returned to my dorm room and noticed all the english-speaking club were outside all suited up and cool looking clothes and ready to invade Festival Mall. Then they would go to Island Cove in Binakayan Cavite on Saturday night and stay overnight. Karl is treating all of us out because his birthday is on Monday. However, due to an already problematic conflict between the HF's Grand Research Day on Sunday throughout southern Metro Manila and my Laundry in Tanza... I had to suffocate myself as I told Karl "I really want to... but I can't. I've got to make more sacrifices here."
The whole gang left for Festival, and as I type this they're probably laughing their heads off inside the reserved rooms by the pool at Island Cove. Lance went with them. Just don't do anything stupid you guys.
The dorms cleared up and my pick-up hadn't arrived yet. I decided to conclude my week at La Salle by prooving my room mate wrong about how he sees me as a room mate who cleans too.
I failed to clean the bathroom last semester, I admit that. And you wanted to clean it up last week so you did, and you did a good job on it. But suddenly after you cleaned the bathroom up, you wanted to clean everything else by yourself. Did you think your room mates couldn't also clean things up?
You said it yourself you want to clean the bathroom all the time from now on. I said I'll clean the whole room to balance that work. But you would murmur words thinking I couldn't do it....
Well you said it yourself you get the bathroom to clean, I get the kitchen, and our other roomie would specialize on the electric fans which are really dusty.
On Saturday morning the kitchen was dirty. Look at it now.
Last Semester I swept the floors, took out the trash, and even with the VPAPU-HF conflicts last semester I still kept my territories clean and tidy. My books, papers, my desk are all organized.
And unlike you, I make it to all my first classes of the day.
(we clean this room together. we're room mates. we must be a team.)
Title in Review: "One in a Million" seemed to have carried the tune of the week after Charmagne's participation in Bb. La Salle 2002 last Wednesday.

Thursday morning. We would all usually be at Ate Angge's to catch another movie, but we've been late to Sociology (1130-1300) twice and the impressions made on the professor about our little movie-going group has worsened. It was supposed to be The Exorcist this morning.
So we headed to ERS instead.
Last night Bb. La Salle already took place. Representing our college were two girls, a 2nd Year Psychology student and our very own Charmagne as a 1st year Broadcast Journalism student. It was held around 5 o'clock in the evening (yes, it's considered evening since the sun sets earlier these days) and they only had 7 contestants. The event wasn't as grand as I thought, even the Miss. Atheneum (my high school) would celebrate big time compared to Bb. La Salle. I was disappointed at how the USC and them couldn't exactly make this event bigger. I thought they'd have the Severino de las Alas Auditorium with a full house audience, but instead they used the Alumnai Hall underneath the Auditorium.
But I was not disappointed anywhere else other than the planning of this event. I guess it was just supposed to be simple, and to find someone to represent DLSU-D in some other pageant in the next few weeks.
Apparantly, about half of our class attended this event to support our classmate. We cheered Charmagne (Contestant #6) on. Other Colleges had a silent approach into cheering... we were already the loudest there next to some Engineering supporters.
After a series of questions, dancing, and talk... no talent portion and swimwear... it came down to three. The first one they announced was #7, then the next was #3, and when hope felt like it was gone... the last of the three was #6. Broadjourn jumped up like we've already won, perhaps confusing Ate Chloe, an AB Com officer, who stepped in. The whole CLA was now on Charmagne while the other two represented CET and CBA.
The final question was "Equate Tourism to Terrorism" (the way the speaker said it was 'equate torezm to terror-ezem'). One girl had a charming answer, while the other had a cut-off or off-topic reply, and Charmagne gave out a nice answer but it didn't exactly slam dunk as the perfect answer.
The 2nd Runner up was announced, and it was Charmagne. We cheered her on and supported her till the end of this very fast, and very brief Bb. La Salle episode. The CET girl was 1st Runner up and Bb. La Salle 2002 was the CBA girl. I got this event covered with pictures, and I'll post them up in my Gallery in a few weeks since the film roll is still new.
Congratulations Charmagne! One in a Million.

We watched another movie at Ate Angge's house, it would be the third one to date. It was also the first pirated movie we watched. Honestly speaking, I don't like watching these advanced movies because of the low quality it has. Watching crisp-clear movies like "Save the last dance" and "Moulin Rouge" was fun and more interesting last week.
The movie we watched was "Ghost Ship". I only understood about 70% of it. I enjoyed the movie nevertheless, it was a different taste this time compared to all the dance grooves and beats of last week. The first scene of this movie is beyond brutal! Sana ma-convince ko ang ka-dorm mates ko na bumili ng hotdog tapos kainin nila yun sa harap ng TV o PC screen. Promise, there's a guaranteed after-effect that will leave your stomach growling for the nearest bathroom or trash recepticle!
I tried to guess the era of the first scene. It wasn't Present Day, it was showing what made the ship a Ghost Ship. I noted it couldn't be the 1940s... so I guessed the 1960s. The brutal scenes and the people there were from 1962! Cool. La lang, I wanted to express that. Eric, stop staring at me.
The movie went by fine, and by all means- short. It felt like it went by too fast which left a void of free time around 45 minutes till 11:30pm. Some of the girls with us (with Jerson and myself, since we are always outnumbered!) started doing make-overs or re-touching, while GMA7 or ABS-CBN2 was on with those shows like SIS. (we are sisters, we are sisters!)
It's also on this trip that we had the most amount of people over ate Ate Angge's. Kate Q and company joined us this time. We would be travelling in Orange Tricycle Convoys during the late-morning hours in and out of the Sub division. Sana next time makuha ko ito sa camera. I want to work on a "Day in the Life of a Broadcast Journalist", parang special to capture the activities we do and also inspired by the words of the Chair of the AB Com (and Broad Journ) Ms. Ann Sarile.
Anyways we arrived in Sociology late despite finishing the movie nearly an hour before class. We chipped off our first Quiz in class, I couldn't concentrate since we did just "run" from the Main Gate. I'm not sure about how the others who went to Ate Angge's faired out on this quiz, I for one blanked out and I know my impression on the Professor has turned back into disastrous like last Sem. I'm looking for a pick-me-up next meeting.
After class I logged into the HF, and then I saw Maycee with Jeremy!! Jeremy is back!! Geezus, I sound so happy. Well I am happy, we all should be. One of Broadjourn's great dancers and class comedians has to returned to La Salle! And he's shifting... he just wants to get a degree I think and he might go from JournaliSM to TouriSM. Huh?! Broadjourn ka na lang Jem!
I checked if any of my submitted articles yesterday were edited so I could quickly re-edit them myself and submit it, then ask for more. (sira ako talaga ngayon, *cough* charrigh) Seriously, I've completed five articles for the HF these past eight days. I've a lot to catch up on from my absense at HF last semester.
After HF, I passed by VPAPU peeps who are hosting their contribution event to the Cultural Arts Festival (through November), which is ASTIG. Painting competitions in locations across the campus, also invited are neighboring schools. If I remained in the VPAPU, I would be excused from classes today to help handle this....
I encountered a new FilAm friend of mine at the Square Canteen when I dropped by to pick up a Ham and Cheese sandwich from the Jaypee's Stall (they have the best ham and cheese sandwiches amidst the bias bitches, oooops, who run the drinks and hot dog stand). She confessed her love for me.
---record stops---
Actually no. She confessed the problems a certain high authority of a certain department in ERH was giving her tungkol sa foreign version of a filipino class. I stood with her and told her that this was probably abuse or just some over-board security crisis this certain someone was putting on her. Oh well, I supported her and told her we could meet some other time.
I ran to the dorm to eat and quickly make a research paper about Family Care for NSTP-CWTSP. It was 2:25pm on my cellphone and I was already late for class... but when I arrived it had barely started.
And since I'm at ERS after NSTP-CWTSP, and I'm sitting in front of this extremely cold-aircondition where every key letter to type makes my finger want to snap off due to freezing, I can't talk on about NSTP. It's just that tonight I think I'm finally going to hit the gym with some dorm mates.
And by the way, my friend Lance (member of G7), has finally started a blog. But it's not actually ready yet, it's under construction with those blinking lights.

Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Start of Week #20
NOTE: this is a special weekly posting that is made prior to moving back to my dorm in La Salle. it is about upcoming events this week and notes on it. this is usually posted on sunday afternoons.
Weekends could never be shorter! I've only had a 20 hour weekend of resting compared to the 50 hour ones of last semester. I move back into La Salle tonight, and I think I'll arrive around 8 o'clock in the evening.
I spent the only rest-time I have during the week, which was this past morning and afternoon... sleeping and getting the feel and mood of one of the most inspiring mini-series there are out there... on HBO... Band of Brothers (Part 1 and Part 2, out of 10 or 11 parts). It's historical references, cinematography, music, it's really good!! And outside the weather was gloomy and gray, and so was the atmosphere of these first two parts of this grand mini-series. I really felt part of it this afternoon.
Right now it's three hours before that and we've still got a Birthday Party to attend at my father's compound in another part of town. It's my cousin's child's 1st birthday. My mom ordered for a clown to entertain the guests and as our gift to the baby. By the way, the mother of that baby is the next oldest cousin after me in the 3rd Generation of Putong's. We're 15 I think, eldest to youngest I would be #13.
This incoming week starts off with finishing up articles and submitting them on the deadline this Monday. Subjects should now begin their initial lessons according to the syllabus and studying shall commence once again.
I'm not sure about going to Ate Angge's again this week. I want to, but it's up to the rest of the others if they're going. If they're going and I have nothing urgent to do, I will go.
And from last week's clarification about the purpose of Broadcast Journalism (which should actually be re-named to AB Broadcasting and Journalism to clearly state the course in one phrase), this week will now probably be cementing schedules. I'm going to try and memorize the Teatro's Irreg-sked with JOU1-1 as they slide in and out of the core schedule, I'm also still working on "breaking the silence" and to start reciting and get into the flow of the classroom recitation system.
Another thing this upcoming week is my change of schedule. I won't consider myself as an Irreg I guess, I'm not sure what my classmates will think. I'm dropping "Pagbasa at Pagsulat" under two-time Professor, Dr. Pil Garcia and in it's place is a vacant slot for an optional advance subject I can take, but so far confused about. I'll be taking an international version of "Pagbasa at Pagsulat" on Saturday mornings for three hours instead.
Dropping my Filipino II class will render my schedule 3-subjects every day, with breaks inbetween. I can't decide if I should attempt to add "Philiosophy of Man" or "International Kursong Rizal" to the vacant slots in my schedule. At first I am eager to advance while I have this chance because my schedule during the week is sort of filled with breaks, then in another sense I will be eliminating myself from future subjects together with lovable JOU1-1. If I advance, I'm not sure how that will affect my Academics in the Core JOU1-1 subjects (regular ones)... or should I refuse to advance and keep all these breaks to enhance studying and concentration in Core JOU1-1 subjects... hmmm.
I don't know. Camille, a classmate who's really an Irreg, got her hands on multiple interesting subjects and she's advancing already into Introduction to Communication, Performing Arts from a different course, and other interesting subjects. It's her choice, she's very ambitious, but I often wonder what will happen to her other subjects like Filipino, Math, SocSci, the Sciences... with all of them nearly eliminated from her schedule.
So with a revised schedule, I'm only moving a subject from a timeslot and placing it on Saturdays for an International Version. Not much Irreg there. For JOU1-1, I'll be there all the time except in Filipino.
Dorm Life this week might remain the same. Jan did tell Lance that he'd be moving in this upcoming week. About the Pizza ordering for Sunday night, I'll be arriving pretty late so maybe they'll just eat it together.
For my organizations that are left (HF and AB Com Channel), I'm thinking they are a perfect match. Joanna in HF is also in the AB Com Channel, so we'll be able to relate quickly to the events in both orgs.
And next Sunday, the HF writers will be partnered up for a grand field researching on Christmas around Metro Manila. This will make me experience for the first time, TWO NON-STOP WEEKS at La Salle. I don't think I'll be going home next weekend, and I'm already feeling homesick when I think of it!
With a Saturday class next week, and a Sunday non-stop trip to the Metro, maybe I'll stay in my dorm in La Salle. Unless I get more info on the trip to the Metro with HF, I'm thinking maybe I can still return home Saturday afternoon and on Sunday morning meet with Eric at Bacoor and we can both reach the meeting location. So maybe I can still enjoy a weekend, but for now, I don't know exactly how that will work out.
Swimming on Thursday by the way, and no swimming trunks and swimming cap to find yet! I'm panicked about that! I went to Robinsons Imus last Saturday and couldn't find any of the two! I'm sure Toby's Sports Store in SM Bacoor has them, but that's all the waaaaaaay to Bacoor and a double or triple distance from home Tanza to Dasmariñas tonight if we stopped by SM.
Maybe I can borrow a swimming cap from my dorm neighbors, that shouldn't be a problem. But swimming trunks and lending them? I'm getting my own.
Ok, here's to the 2nd Week of the 2nd Semester here at La Salle.
Title in Review: "Breaking the Silence", I'm trying to destroy my silence during class recitation time and start getting myself involved and in-turn focused more about the topic, teacher, and subject itself.

The Damage Report - End of Week #19
NOTE: this is a post that is made to give a summary of events that has happened at DLSU-D during the finished week.
The first week of a new semester has finished. A New schedule to adapt to, a few new faces, a few missing faces, more focus and concentration in different areas, and just about a little bit of everything else.
I've been posting this past week amidst the new schedules and challenges that await, so you can always find a more detailed report in the previous entries made this past week.
LAST SUNDAY
Instead of last sem's Monday mornings, I now move into La Salle on Sunday night. And that's how my 2nd Semester began with last sunday spending it reuniting with dorm mates from last semester and sweeping dust off the floors and desks.
We treated ourselves to pizza and I moved in almost perfectly until I forgot to bring my pillow, matress, and blanket. Luckily Joel let me borrow an extra pillow and matress, but I had to spend more than half the rest of the week without a blanket and exposed to the cold of November Dasmariñas.
LAST MONDAY
It was the start of the 2nd Semester and I was excited to see my classmates again. However, we already decreased in numbers on the first day. It was a horrifying thought that a class of nearly 50 would become 30 something.
Actually, many thought that there wearn't any classes on Monday because it was the word around. And in fact, only three have decreased from the first day of school last Semester. They would be Ricky from long ago, Erian, and Jeremy.
In three subjects, only one professor showed up. Only our Career Pathing teacher, AB Com faculty Ms. Mahsa Sigari, gave out a few words on our first day. For General Chemistry and Intensive English, which are Monday-only subjects, we'll have to wait for next Monday.
LAST TUESDAY
The kakaibang schedule of Tuesday (and Thursday) changed the style of breaks. Compared to last semester where our 1 1/2 hour breaks would be at Brejanah Cafe or just at the Kubo, we were now exposed to a 3-hour break in the morning.
I joined Ate Angge and a few others to go to their house down the road here in Dasmariñas. To me, it was a total spontaneous event. I had pictured my morning to be in the Library, HF Office, or in my dorm... and never expected to be out of the campus watching nice movies with classmates.
Communication Arts and Skills 1 was the first class, led by Eric's old HS teacher, Mr. Mansuerto. That class would end at 8:30AM and our next class would be Sociology at 11:30AM.
When we'd return from Ate Angge's (Tuesday was "Save the last dance", and Thursday was "Moulin Rouge") we'd arrive to Sociology which would end at 1:00PM. We would have a one-hour break before we'd proceed with NSTP-CWTSP at the SBC Building, 2nd floor and terrace-room (SBC 203).
The two professors are Ms. Cristina and Ms. Nena Roque, the latter was one of our professors last semester in NSTP-CWTSP 1. The class was situated on this covered terrace in the middle of the afternoon.
After my scheduled classes, I would continue towards the HF Office. I walked in there searching for articles to work on while I don't have major assignments running across my Academic subjects.
NEW ASSIGNMENTS AT HERALDO FILIPINO
Eric, Kay, Bonnie, and the top writers received assignments for the next release of the Decreto section in the Broadsheet. Eric is doing something about the AGS, this year's controversy at La Salle. Kay is working on several assignments from my impression.
Paul Adrienne and I wearn't assigned decreto things (wheeew), and I was assigned a regular Feature and some news to cover after much application into doing so.
For Kuya Marthy, editor of Features, I have to report the three plays the AB Com did last October. They are "Pula", "Patay Sindi", and "Bahid". The last of the three is what I'm missing at the end of the week.
For Mam Chiqui, editor in chief of the HF and acting News Coordinator due to Ate Tina's absenses, assigned me to cover the CAO Cultural Arts Month and College of Education events this semester for Collegiate News.
By Tuesday's end I would write a feature and by Wednesday's end I would also be covering two news articles.
LAST WEDNESDAY
Unlike last Semester, our Wednesday's are now fully-packed with classes. Although I've seen the COM1-1 (our neighboring block in first year) schedule which has a insane non-stop series of classes on two days, JOU1-1's Wednesdays are hectic!
Wala na ang half-day.
The only good thing about the identical Wednesday and Friday schedule is that we start classes at 0830 hours instead of 0700 hours which we all suffered back last Semester.
In Elem. Statistics, it's shaping up to be ok, the professor is ok. In Pagbasa at Pagsulat, it's Mr. Lakandupil Garcia once again (from last sem's "Sining ng Kommunikasyon"), in Bio. Sci the Professor didn't show up but our Ecology Professor from last sem substituted, and in Reed-2 a unique professor who also owns a Xerox Machine shop just outside Gate 1, and I did see her before she became my professor when I photocopied some documents the previous night.
A Xerox machine lady during off-school hours and a professor during school-hours, I want to do a feature on her! Haha. She acts very nice, calm, a little bit formal, but generally calm.
On this day we also had an HF meeting during University Break, which made me miss the opening ceremonies of the Cultural Arts Month which my former batchmates in VPAPU (the org I sacrificed off my schedule) were handling throughout the campus.
LAST THURSDAY
A lot like Tuesday! After English 1 (Comm Arts and Skills 1) we made going to 7-11 to grab some snacks a routine! We went with Ate Angge again to her house and this time we watched "Moulin Rouge", Eric's favorite movie, and it's also within my circle of good movies to watch.
It was memorable, just like how memorable Joanna and most of the girls with us had with Sean Patrick Thomas on "Save the last dance" from Tuesday. This time it was the BEAUTY, FREEDOM, TRUTH, and above all else- LOVE that got Shiela and Ate Angge, all of them including me at the end, touched.
I think we were at the part Satine died backstage at the end when our Sociology class began in JFH 201. We had to make ourselves get from Point A to Point B as soon as possible.
15 minutes later we were single file in the empty JFH 2nd floor as we entered the room to quietly find any vacant seats. Luckily I found one closer to the front and Eric was next to me.
After Sociology, we now had another 2 hour break! If we could squeeze our Thursday subjects together, we could go for a half-day. But on Thursday, we start at 0700 and end at 1700. Sheesh. 5 hours of classes, 5 hours of break.
PE SWIMMING would follow at 1500 hours (3pm). I walked to PLS and we met with our professor in Swimming. She's ok, but I know the majority voice which are the female classmates of mine would have preferred some hot swimming instructor guy who happened to walk in front of us. I didn't care, I had other things to think about like how freaking short the swimming trunks have to be or are suggested to be.
Lots of mixed views too, some say it has to be really short, others who finished Swimming already claim it could be like cycling shorts or full-body scuba suits! Todo na 'to!
I think about it. It's a great way to get a tan or to get a little darker, because I'm a bit lite on complexion and in real need of a tan or something to make me look alive and not like a vampire under the flourescent light.
LAST FRIDAY
My mom had delivered a new blanket, a new pillow case with my favorite long pillow, and a new matress to my dorm before Thursday evening and I believe I had the most comfortable sleep and wake-up in ages! My classes on Friday are exactly the same as those on Wednesday, and that also means I start at 0830 hours.
Classes were now starting and flowing in unlike the first session which was basically just an orientation. In Elem. Stat we discussed the first lessons, in Pagbasa at Pagsulat with Mr. Garcia we return to the talk about "you better be good in this subject because this is how it relates to your course" kind of talk. In Bio. Sci the professor hasn't showed up yet and later in Reed-2 we had a group seatwork and Tina told me to recite for the group.
Friday was a bit different though. In the afternoon I had objectives to accomplish. I had interviews to conduct and assist in, I had places to go to get information about international-alternative subjects to FILI123 (Pagbasa at Pagsulat), etc.
For HF Articles, I went to the CoE office to ask for the Dean so we can have an ambush interview about CoE events this new semester. Instead, the secretary helped out as best she could but Maycee gave me a series of tips and tutorials about collecting facts and news. Maycee has had so many of these moments already from last semester, so now she's relating what she's learned by telling me about her experiences and how to improve on mine.
I don't have a tape recorder, that's a vital neccesity for News writers!
I stopped by ERH 2nd Floor where all the departments of subjects are located. For my Pagbasa at Pagsulat, it was under the Languages Department and it was already late in the day to get the best help. I also decided to inquire about advancing Kursong Rizal for Foreigners which was being made available to my Balikbayan dorm mates.
I joined Maycee to interview the Dean of my college, Prof. Aquino I. Garcia. First time I met with him in person by the way. Maycee did the interview while I asked back-up questions. I also took this chance to clarify several things about AB Broadcast Journalism and Foreign subjects... which he happens to be teaching! The foreign "Kursong Rizal" will be taught by my dean... woah.
TWO BIRDS AND ONE STONE IN MY HAND
That's how he said it. AB Broadcast Journalism is like hitting two birds with one stone. He clarified to me that Broadjourn is mastering both BROADCASTING and JOURNALISM while AB Com is only sampling things and don't have as much further focus on Broadcasting and Journalism.
So it's confirmed now what my course is as it is compared with a very very similar course such as AB Com. I now have the official word from the Dean himself.
I also asked him about the foreign class he's teaching, and he said it's uncertain because the special class might dissolve... but he did meet with my room mate and HS friend Lance, and some other foreigners/balikbayans looking to take up Kursong Rizal.
The Dean of CLA said himself to me that my room mate, Lance, is reaching up to a paralyzing 36 units for this 2nd Semester! Lance spoke to Dean Garcia just a few minutes before I did. 36 units Lance?! I confirmed on Saturday that he was actually more or less 30 to 33 units this semester.
So there, I left pleased knowing what my course is officially described as and Maycee left with a good, even fun, interview with our Dean.
HERALDO FILIPINO BY WEEKS' END
As of Friday's end, I am working on three articles for the News section and one for the Feature. I've already submitted one for "Staffer's Corner" as requested together with three other writers. My CAO Cultural Arts Month article is done but needs to be revised after I found out the title of one event was re-named. My College of Education "happenings" article has some writing on it, but I need to close the lid with an arranged interview with the Dean of CoE on Monday. My CSO New Organizations article which I was the most recently assigned has complete information but just needs to be put together with MS Word. And my review of the three AB Com Plays for the Feature section is 2/3rds done.
All four articles are due Monday. Most of them only need some final say, like a flash interview or to collect a few extra words to complete the formation of an article.
Friday night was quiet, lonely, and I did close the week with a sip of hot coffee with my dorm mate Joseph while watching two Nuns practice for some Filipiniana dance in the lobby around 10 o'clock in the evening. I also joined dorm mates Paolo, Davies, and Kurt to eat at Hidden Tapsihan. And later on in the evening Paolo and Davies witnessed the guards go fishing in the lagoon. They did catch a lot of fishes.
Survivor 5 on Friday signalled the near-extinction of Sook Jai. While the 3rd Season of ANGEL premiered on studio 23 at 9pm. I also made something on the computer and mimic'd the room numbers across campus like "ERH 101". I made one for the F3 door and above it outside... "FHM-103".
SATURDAY
I was first up in a room of two out of three. Jan moves in next week still. Lance cleaned the bathroom on Thursday night and it's so clean, we really want to maintain it! The new guy in F6, Aldrich, was also a new face at the dorms but he was already gone on Saturday.
Anyways, I thought that the three from Kuwait down the hall in F9 where already suited up. I walked down the hall, fresh from the shower and in new clothes, only to find myself knocking on their screen door and hearing a voice in the dark saying "We're all still sleeping...", which was Basil.
I decided to wait for Lance instead and we left at 0830 for a Saturday foreigners' version of "Pagbasa at Pagsulat" that would start at 0800 till 1100, 3 units, 3 hours.
We arrived and met the Professor, who answered several questions that pleased the way I saw it all. She confirmed that joining foreigners FILI103f will equal my FILI123 "Pagbasa..." meaning attending Saturdays from 8am to 11am will replace my Wednesdays and Fridays with JOU1-1 in "Pagbasa at Pagsulat" from 10am to 11:30am.
She also said that no matter how small this special class is, it won't dissolve like what the Kursong Rizal for foreigners is facing at the moment.
Karl, Brian, and Basil finally arrived at ERH 110 after the Professor left for upstairs already. Lance and I led them to our new professor and we all had some talking and answering of questions upstairs on the 2nd floor of ERH.
Afterwards the five of us ate at La Buena Comida... then Lance and I went to the dorm while the three prepared to leave for Festival Mall.
Lance joined me to go to the Admin/GMH and secure an ADD/DROP Form. I was now sure I would be freeing up my schedule on Wednesdays and Fridays... and if I do this successfully, I have only three subjects per day, with good breaks to expand my contributions to the HF five and a half days a week! (Monday to Saturday AM)
THE BOARD OF SUBJECT SLOTS
At the Admin, I encountered Kuya Rheyan with his mother. I saw he had his ADD/DROP form and when I saw him with it, I felt a surge of sadness... our Kuya Rheyan, class representative, ... SHIFTING to Marketing or something.
I thought he was being forced to shift, but it was actually his idea to shift. His mother wanted him to stay in Broadcast Journalism and make it work out, while Kuya Rheyan was silent. Of course, if his mom would push him to stay put in his course... you know me! I would already be cheering Kuya Rheyan on and do my best to convince him to stay Broadjourn. And it was right there and then I saw him, after a while of searching frantically for slots in marketing subjects that I witnessed him put down his ADD/DROP form and take off with his mom.
And from my tagboard, Ate Angge said that Erian is still Broadjourn and she's returning in the summer.
And to where Jeremy left, some new guy has shifted to Broadjourn and he has appeared in a few subjects already. He's still an Irreg, but he's considered JOU1-1. More on this news as it develops next week!
Basically we are still 48+ strong, in some way.
INTERVIEWING THE P.R.O. OF THE CSO
I made Lance wait a while, sorry. I interviewed Kuya JP, 4th year Pol Sci student, inside the nice CSO office. He gave me details of the new organizations accreditted by the CSO. That interview lasted nearly thirty minutes, without tape recorder too.
After that, I logged out of HF and bagged 2 hours on Saturday, it could have been 5 or 6 if I logged in before my new class on Saturday.
GOING HOME
We returned to our dorm room to clean up some things. I used the computer and prepared to make the F3 schedule, but Jan wasn't around yet so I just saved it.
Lance left first while I left about 30 minutes later. My mom and our driver picked me up around 1:10pm and we left for Robinsons Place Imus.
Title in Review: I titlted this week's TDR based on "Save the last Dance", a movie we watched at Ate Angge's last Tuesday. I was trying to decide between "Come What May" or "All or Nothing". I didn't choose "Come What May" this week because I didn't lay back and waited for things, I applied my available self this past week to the HF. I decided "All or Nothing" would be better, and I choose that because to me this past week... it's that I get myself involved early in both HF and in Adding and Dropping a subject rather than slacking this past week. All or nothing.
Thursday, November 07, 2002
The Tuesday and Thursday 3-hour break in the morning has got it's Broadjourn scrambling around trying to find other things to do. I myself haven't seen the other groups and what they do from 0830 until 1130 hrs. Maybe they go to ERS, maybe some go to sleep, maybe some go their respective Organizations, I don't know yet.
What I do know is that I've joined Ate Angge and Company (which by the way, is now minus Erian :/ ) and we would go straight to 7-11 after our dismissal from our Comm Arts and Skills (English) class. We'd stock up on supplies in the early morning and grab a jeepnee to ourselves (since we come by numbers and get into an empty jeepnee) to where we would get off at some Orange Tricycles waiting zone.
We would then be on two or three orange tricycles venturing off into Ate Angge's subdivision place where we'd go down all these streets. We would then arrive at her house and prepare to watch a VCD (usually original) movie.
Last Tuesday it was "Save the last dance." which I had already seen but enjoyed watching it with a new group of friends.
And then this morning, we watched "Moulin Rouge", which I've already seen and again enjoyed watching with a new group of friends. I learned and cleared the story more by watching it again this time. I now see what this "Elephant" is that Satine lives in.
I was also reawakened by Ewan McGregor's line near the end of the movie about how frustrated and sad he was over his obsession of love. Not in the green minded case of course! But the true meaning of it. It was sad to hear it and it was a crucial line to that point of the movie. Bravo.
The movie ended 5 minutes till class and we had 2 or 3 kilometers, maybe 4, to get back into La Salle for our Sociology class. We rushed back and then made it late, but there wasn't anything heavy going on.
Some additional words...
Ate Angge it was really fun, again! Joanna, nice balancing with the TV Volume! Shiela, ok ka lang about the ending of the movie?
I had blue pepsi and it colored a part of my lip which made everyone laugh by the way during the movie. Kuya Rheyan watched with us this time. Cindy and Ara wearn't with us today compared to Tuesday. Kate Mamon and I both had hot noodles. Ate Angge had yaki soba but she put the mix in and then put the hot water, which would make soup not yaki soba! Hahahaha.
Wilda and Jerson followed up because we all went ahead of them.
Next Tuesday again! ^_^
With the premiere of the "WF" schedule yesterday, we were introduced to new Professors. And on Wednesday night it was a crisis involving Lance trying his best to move my High School classmate Chope into the Dorms inside La Salle. That included a conflict with a dorm neighbor regarding the room assignments being scrambled. Specifically, if Chope moves in... it might cause a chain reaction of restoring the Master List of which room has who in it. I'm not affected by this in any way. I'm disappointed though in the neighbor who conflicted with Lance, he was a bit selfish when he said "...I cleaned my new room for five whole hours, and only two of us are inside it. I don't want three yet!"
New dorm mates this semester are: John and Ben join "Dino" in F2. Aldrich, a person just like Lance and myself but his dad is US Airforce (not yet retired) in Guam, moved into F5 and joined Joam who moved from F4 to F5. Chope is supposed to be in F7 if he continues with it. Am I excited? I don't know, I'm more neutral. I've been trying to move away from High School, not let it move back in with me. No offense Chope, I know you already know the problems back in HS... the silent problems.
Other developments? I believe I've finally spoken to most of the first batch of dormers down the hall except Alex in F6. With everyone else, I've at least had a few sentences shared with them.
This past semester I've also gotten closer to Mark, a really good Accounting student, in F1. He has given me tips on how to improve my grades and my recitation. Right now, my JOU1-1 Class Recitation is at Zero... it's not happening. With Mark's advice, he's got me noticing new things about those in my class who recite. Like where the best place to sit is, how many times to raise your hand, tactics to get known by the Professor but not in the "sip-sep" way. In return, I teach him to improve his English vocabulary. He's actually very smart, but we all know everyone has a weakness and he admitted that speaking English was his.

Today was the opening of the Cultural Arts Month, and with it was a grand celebration wherein all the PAG Organizations would perform at key locations around the campus. Pop Band at the Rotonda/Main gate. Chorale at La Buena Comida. Teatro Lasalliana at the SBC Grounds. Pointes and Flexes at the Lake Park. Brass Band at the Admin and the Filipiniana at the CBA Grounds. And of course, VPAPU everywhere.
I encountered most of the officers and of course a very busy Mam Joy, the first time I've had contact with these people after I decided to jump ship.
Honestly the feeling was odd. Seeing my PAG-affiliated classmates with their excuse letters, their extra clothes, their way of being busy reminded me of how I felt like before. Being part of a production unit that caters to the needs of these other PAG organizations.
The kind of busy it is now is the busy relating to articles, deadlines, and issues relating to the Heraldo Filipino. There aren't anymore nightly production meetings, no more laughs with Sai, Jerwyn of COM1-1, and my other former batchmates at VPAPU. I decided to leave VPAPU and I am reminded this week of what I left behind.
I'm not re-considering though. I've really decided I can't handle the intense planning of VPAPU and PAG. Only if my grades were higher last Semester, then there'd be a chance I can still juggle the two (HF and VPAPU). But this Semester, I'm crushing any High School bad habits and inferiority complexes; and staging an all-out return to excellent grades and generally improved study habits.
I sure hope I'm going the right way now. One Org taken down, and Academics hot on the rebound.
The WF Schedules Premiere!
Wednesdays and Fridays have the same schedule for Core JOU1-1. Classes start at 8:30am, a new starting time of classes if we compare it to last sem's 7AM Tuesday till Friday.
It also happens to be the heavier set of classes compared to the T and H, or Tuesday and Thursday set. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we only have 2 permanent subjects, while the 3rd subject will be NSTP for Tuesday and SWIMMING for Thursday.
Anyways, we met 4 professors. 2 of them are new. For Elementary Statistics and Reed 2, they are new. For "Pagsulat at Pagbasa..." (FILI123) we have Dr. Lakandupil Garcia once again! (from last sem's "Sining ng Kommunikasyon", and also my Prof in the Basic Fil class on saturdays before).
In Biological Science, we have a new professor but our Ecology teacher from last Sem, Ms. Mercurio, substituted.
Other than the four classes, it was in and out visits to the Heraldo Filipino. A Staffers Meeting at 1pm took me away from the fun performances the PAG were having outside during the Wednesday University Break. We spoke about the Palad (Literary Folio of HF) and the commitees, and the seminar/workshop to be hosted by the HF to the contributers of the Palad.
No news assignments yet. I'm not even in the News section but I hunger for more experience and deadlines. In Features, it's down to one article about the 3 plays the AB Com did last October 1st to 3rd.
Kuya Rheyan and I were to go to the gym, but we didn't since we wearn't prepared. Instead, we joined Jhen at ERS and then Leah and Keith met up with us. Then I think Endrea, Christine, and company decided to surf as well since they're sitting across from us.
Tonight it's DARK ANGEL, and Lance and I are getting a little more closer to Mark, from F1. In fact, Lance and Mark spoke for a long time last night... and to add all the talking time last night in F3... we must've spoken for five or six hours!
Tuesday, November 05, 2002
JOU1-1 isn't as damaged as I thought it could be. The feeling is that "many" are shifting out, but technically out of a class of 49... only 3 or 4 have done so OR have left the University already.
Survey says, JOU1-1 won't dissolve like it's predecessor. It'll truly be JOU1-1, not COM1-4. I want to quote Arjay for explaining to our "Society and Culture" professor the difference between Broadcast Journalism and Mass Communications (AB Com). Arjay said that AB Com is bound to study the media as a whole while Broadjourn will focus on both BROADCASTING and JOURNALISM. Amen to that Arjay, for a course many still don't see or fail to know about!
Anyways, all four TEATRO peeps (Arjay, Athena, Jhen, and William) are irregs in a few subjects. They had to re-schedule some subjects to comfort the demands of the artisticly powerful Teatro Lasalliana. Other irregs are Camille, who's shifted to AB Psychology together with Danielle (she dorms on-campus). Camille is grabbing subjects that will support her unit-requirements and pre-requisites to studying at UP-Diliman in Film or Mass Communications. Very ambitious and going for it, I like that.
Jerson was following Camille, but he's Broadjourn still. He hadn't confirmed his schedule to be like the JOU1-1 Core until early Tuesday.
I've asked some people in class about their plans. So far the general reaction to the question is good. A lot are now becoming more dedicated to our course! That's the spirit.
A Missing face. Erian! She's now studying Nursing at Perpectual Help. So suddenly too, I thought it would be next year.
A Missing face. Jeremy! A star-dancer in our class and supposed official new member of the University's hottest Dance group the "Pointes and Flexes Dance Troupe". A true Broadjourn brought down Financially to make way for another sibling. Oh well.
To both Erian and Jeremy, your friends miss you!
The Core JOU1-1 are holding strong so far.
The Irregs are adjusting to their new schedules.
And the missing faces, good luck in your future endeavours!
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Week #19
"The 2nd Semester of 1st Year College begins!"
I already know it's a little late to post this, but since only a handful of Professors are showing up and still more new and uncharted terrority remain for Wednesday and Thursday, why not I just post something anyway.
VPAPU is out. HF is in full blast. Remember that on my affiliated organizations.
The weekend prior to moving into my dorm was just a weekend spent at home. The only change was a change of doorknob in my room and another security upgrade to the house.
Since my classes this 2nd Semester have changed, so does the schedule. I used to move into my dorm on Monday mornings before INTRO and NSTP which starts at 1pm. But now this semester, my first class on Monday starts at 7am so I move in earlier on Sunday nights.
I packed up a lot. About four times as much as an ordinary move-in to my dorm in La Salle. The small television, the dumbells, my 1st Sem green file basket... everything...
Except my bed! What I mean is... I forgot to pack my pillow, mattress, and blanket. And the weather lately is cold, especially here on this campus which lies on top of a hill in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Some Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes to Dorm Life already
A lot of my companions have shaved their heads! Lance shaved his head, but wear glasses with it Lance. Joel shaved his head, mukhang D.O. (Discipline Officer)! Basil and Karl from Kuwait who returned from Kuwait last week have shaved their heads...
Jan, my F3 roommate from last semester is still dorming after he did tell everyone he was moving out. He moves in next week.
I moved my stuff in and the dorms were lively again. Life in the dormitory has resumed... that unique feeling of being independent and living in our own rooms returned.
It was nice to see people again. My semestral break was like life on-pause. I didn't achieve anything big last sem break other than buy new clothes. I didn't go to the gym. I didn't accomplish the Broadjourn website...
The guard at the Girls' dorm is more mahigpit (strict). I warned Joel to pull me back if ever I get into a confrontation with a security guard regarding the treatment of Male dormers, especially pacifist ones like me! I could get gruesome with any guard who denies me or delays me access to the telephone, vending machine, hot coffee and hot chocolate machine, or meeting with a female classmate of mine. That activist part of me might return. My rebel instincts in that package as well.
Anyways, the new guard was either really like that or showing it off to the parents of female dormers that were in their cars or walking around assisting their daughters. It was getting dark on Sunday night and still there were cars, jeepnees, and vans lined up on the sides of the road.
I wanted Pizza Hut, and Joel and Lance agreed we'd share a family-size. We decided to use the phone in the lobby. The first call was a failure because 416-1616 was busy. We returned 20 minutes later with the security guard complaining that we used the phone already and his face was like frustrated bull....
If it got worse than that, I would voice out that WE DORM inside La Salle and MUST RECEIVE the same or almost the same privileges the ladies get to dorm facilities such as the phone and vendomachine in the lobby. To the sisters and matrons I will complain. To the Kampusap-Usapan or WHODAS that madness might take me into the HF! Rrrrrrrrrgggg.
No problem afterwards. We ordered our pizza and I was in my room fixing things and unpacking. I got pictures of that too. The hot Pizza arrived quickly and it was the first time I had ordered pizza yet alone had one delivered to us!
The evening came and in the dorms we have about 90% of last sem's dormers moving in. Kurt is in Cebu and arrives Tuesday night. New faces too. Lance's classmate (someone Lance might need if he wishes to pass more often in PT) is moving in. Chope from HS might move in if there's a slot available. Some 2nd Year AB Psychology student (long-live-liberal-arts!!) moved into F2, making it three once again after last sem's episodes with "Dino".
"Dino" is still around by the way.
Some people have moved to different rooms. Joel supposed to be one of them but Jan is staying another sem.
A New Semester, Schedule, and Season
I was excited, i'll have to admit that. I remember vaguely not falling asleep so easily Sunday night. I remember that I had trouble falling asleep, and when I blinked a few times it was already 5:30AM. Unlike lazyness to get up early like at the end of last semester, on Monday morning I headed straight for the shower.
A new semester. A different schedule and new classes. New events, memories, and even crisis with deadlines. No more VPAPU, but now more HF and more articles to work on.
