Of Chapters, Love, and Politics

English102 was at the library earlier. We just have to finish writing Chapter 2 (we are complete on references and information already) and I might be able to toss in and complete Chapter 3 by Friday. So next week's trip to Intramuros and Baclaran-Las Piñas will be dedicated to Chapter 4 and onwards.

In Philosophy of Man, we discussed "Phenomenology of Love". A long-awaited topic. But believe it or not, despite the laughter, I was very sleepy! I couldn't seem to concentrate when she started to do some deep explaining. I couldn't really relate to everything the class was talking about. It was fun though, nevertheless. The two questions everyone each had to contribute will be answered tomorrow. That'll be the best. We should bring in some CD Player to play us some sentimental tones in the background. Heheh.

Anyways, afterwards and before we could proceed to having a meeting about the Indang Trip this Saturday, Class President Teenah held the elections for SY 2003-2004. The results are as follows.

President
Cristina Aure to Cristina Aure (Outstanding Performance)

Vice President
Meann Balao to Jessica Fenol

Secretary
Jennifer Viceo to Kate Mamon

Treasurer
Jocelyn Castillejos to Ayesha de Celis

Auditor
Katherine Santos

Public Relation Officers
William Eusores
Joanna Paraohao

Class Representative
Rheyan Lipardo to Eric Salta

Congratulations! A lot of my close friends are up there now. And thanks to those who nominated me in some of the positions earlier. I was touched! Heheh. Okay I admit it's a growing frustration. I love JOU1-1 (incoming JOU2-1) and I really want to work for it, but I have failed to attain the confidence of the majority of class. I guess I will work for the class in my own little ways.

'Cause it makes me that much stronger
Makes me work a little bit harder
It makes me that much wiser
So thanks for making me a fighter

But in another sense, it's starting to get to me. I was recently said to be "not that active" in the Heraldo Filipino. I was offended because I've been contributing at least three news articles each towards the past three Broadsheets, and I always do my work for the La Salleño. My by-line has been mistaken twice already (taken by Geralyn Ann Isles 'CLE New Course' in Broadsheet 17-No. 6 and JP Abcede 'A Decade of Pop Culture' in LS 10-No. 4)... but now it has really gotten to me. It's irritating! Arrrggggggh!!!!

Things have toppled on top of each other like crazy now. It must be some mid-summer depression. I have the feeling I have a lot to prove this incoming 2nd Year College...

Made me learn a little bit faster
Made my skin a little bit thicker
Makes me that much smarter
So thanks for making me a fighter

A Slight Meeting with JOU2-1 and Furniture Changes

YESTERDAY

I was surfing yesterday but I didn't feel like making any entries. Anyways, we had a meeting with some officers of the 2nd Year Broadjourn. The latest issue to rock the corners of our classroom is the friction being caused by the construction of the first Broadcast Journalism Program Council. There are only two sections in Broadjourn right now (JOU1-1 and JOU2-1) with two sections coming next year (JOU1-1 and JOU1-2). Our course is growing and the Program Council is being rushed to be created so things could be set in motion.

But the methods of electing officers into the BJPC has been quite difficult. It's a puzzle that the larger JOU1-1 and 21-student JOU2-1 have to face. How will the elections occur? We've had sentiments that the pioneer class has prospects of dominating every single position of the first-ever BJPC. That has angered some classmates because it's unfair. I'm sure there's a solution to all of this, and I'm hoping the formation of this "Broadcast Journalism Program Council Commitee" will ease the ties between our two sections. Communication is key to a successful integration of our two sections, in my belief. I believe in the Pioneer Class and understand their frustrations, I just hope they understand us as well. And in the end, we all have the same thing in common. WE are a FAMILY and BOTH of us are striving side by side to strengthen Broadjourn in DLSU-D. This commitee needs its first goal to be set as connecting all the JOURN sections into a union.

At home I arranged the furniture in my room. All because my brother moved my mom's stereo component which has een collecting dust the past few months since we can't find the adapter to plug that thing in. When he moved the component and the table that was with it, a part of my room opened up and my mind explored the possibilities. I found myself re-arranging the location of the bed and the sofa allowing an "entertainment area" to open up. More space to walk was my #1 goal.

On Buffy it was the episode Tara died which would now enflame Willow in absolute anger forcing her to turn into a powerful evil witch while on Charmed it was "Siren Song", a new episode from Season 5.

TODAY

Right now I'm at ERS with Kate, Ate Angge, Rona, Jhen, and Eric. We're just surfing like usual. Ate Angge and I furnished our Chapter One for the Research Paper in ENGL102 earlier. And in Philosophy, we had a quiz about Human Nature and Interhuman. We took some pictures with Eric's camera (one including Ms. de Leon) and went to Square Canteen to eat before going here.

Planning for this Saturday has intensified. We now have a list of people going. Our Philo make-up class has been changed from Saturday into Friday and into next Monday. Meaning, this Saturday we are all swimming in Indang from late morning to mid-afternoon.

VISITING THE ROOTS
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Start of Week #39/4

NOTE: A weekly post made before starting a week of studies at La Salle.

"Two Lunches in my parents home barangay of Julugan..."

THE following week is a complete five-day week of studies. Believe it or not, it's already considered "The Final Term". In English102 I'm hoping we can catch up and start conducting intensive reseach about our topic. My partner is Ate Angge. Our topic is "Wood and Stone: Philippine Church Architecture and Imagery" which will include a two days of visiting churches in Metro Manila to assist us in defense (if there is one) and getting the facts straight. Plus pictures. You can't forget the pictures!

In Philosophy of Man, it's a 6-day thing. Monday to Friday with a Saturday 3 1/2 hour make-up class. I'm starting to understand it. But I know Philosophy won't ever get my total interest of it. It's just too sophisticated in a way that it simply doesn't interest me. "If someone says it's that way and someone else disapproves and says it's his way, until so many people argue their own opinions and thoughts about it... what's the use of asking ourselves when it's all been sorted out and turned into an endless web of thoughts and ideas..."

May 3 (next Saturday) marks the day a few of us in class will go to the Indang Coldsprings to go swimming. I'm hoping this will push through. Because we, as a group of friends and classmates, haven't gone out for any summer activity yet and it's already May!

I'm also going to continue searching for that ideal second-hand car that we can buy when my dad gets here. I'm also hoping that when my dad returns to his homeport in Singapore after a two-day test drive of the USNS John Ericsson this Tuesday that the Captain of the ship will allow him and the other eight or nine co-workers to be able to take their vacation now since they've been waiting for their replacements for nearly a month and a half now.

Here's to another week at La Salle. May it be filled with fun events and happenings.

TITLE IN REVIEW: "Visiting the Roots" because I've spent the past weekend having my Lunches in my parents home barangay in Julugan, Tanza. On Saturday we ate Lunch with my Uncle who came from the States and today we went to Julugan again to eat Lunch at my mom's cousins' house since there was a baptism.

A White Sand Beach becomes a Future Destination

If Saturday was Lunch with my Uncle at the house my cousin is caretaker of, Sunday would be in Julugan again. Near the Fish Terminal to be exact. I just returned from Lunch at my mom's cousin's. His name is Kuya Henry and his 3 month old girl just got baptised this morning.

Since we're looking for a new car and my dad isn't here yet, I wanted to jump on the opportunity and mingle with anyone at the party who knew about second-hand cars. I asked for a second-hand CR-V or RAV-4. Under P500,000. Automatic (my mom's only demand of the new vehicle handling). Gray-Silver, Ocean Blue, or Forest Green. Model 2000 and above.

My Kuya Henry got right on it and it so happened one of the older guys at the drinking table worked at Toyota Alabang or something like that. We got a few estimates and I learned more details. My mom heard a second-hand CR-V would be around P350,000. We left the party confirming that P500,000 is the minimal we'll find for a quality second-hand CR-V 2000 Model and above, without all the added features.

It was a disappointment. But at least I got on the move. I want to do the vehicle hunting now so when my dad gets here, we go straight to buying the vehicle and I can go straight to practicing how to drive it.

We also heard a REVO was cheaper and is still one of the top rated in performance. I also found out that the RAV-4 is more of a luxury vehicle and rarely sold second-hand. Toyota Revo and Rav-4... ah ok, these two are of the same company. I'm not in for the REVO though because it's common, it's quite larger than the compact CR-V and RAV-4.

That brings us down to my Kuya Henry's offer. Even if he's my mom's cousin, he's always so active in conversations with me and my brother. Unlike, ahem, some of my other relatives on both sides of the family... it's my mom's cousin that always offers us "Want to go somewhere?". He told me [in tagalog] before we left the party: "Call me up sometime and tell me where you want to go. Just make sure you call me before the day itself."

The exact words i've been waiting to hear! I sparked like a fuse and jumped on the idea. I asked him "where?" and he said "Baguio" and I knew that was too much. I told him "somewhere you can easily drive to" and he replied "How about some White Sand Beaches in Batangas". Then he added "how about the last week of May..." and that totally clicked in. Cool! "Who will go with us?" I asked him. "You have a girlfriend?" he asked me.

Damn! A golden summer opportunity to take a girlfriend to a distant white sand beach down south and to spend time with her. But I don't have a girlfriend yet. Not yet. Sayang! I'm excited and all up for it. I now have someone to take me somewhere! Thanks Kuya Henry!

A Lunch in Julugan and Some Music Videos

Just got back from my Uncle's house. He has arrived from the states for a one month vacation. He's my favorite Uncle because he's very nice to my mom and always talks to her and councils her. I miss him too. He has always lived in the Philippines until he had the chance to live in the states with his wife and join the half of his children that live in California. We're happy for him, he deserves to finally see how wonderful the United States is.

It was a Lunch at this compound that my cousin (and his son) is caretaker of. We went home while my mom stayed. We will get picked up in less than an hour to go to church at the Bayan.

I've just watched two new music videos. "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera was a very big surprise. Black hair, gothic-themed, and moths everywhere including her! Woah. I saw the NBA Playoffs version of her video... which makes more sense because that version features key dunks and slams of the past NBA season done by top NBA stars. I'm ok with the gothic version though, it's something new and something surprising rather than the same old blonde girl dancing again and again.

The other video I saw was Madonna's "American Life" video. I heard it was postponed from being released since the original video of the song might seriously offend the Armed Forces of the United States. The video I saw was Madonna in some kind of Military attire and the flags of all the different nations in the world waving in the back. I honestly liked the video. The imagery effects and angles they used on Madonna were interesting. The flags in the background, I can't tell if it's a good thing or a bad thing. But when I saw the Philippine Flag on it's turn, it felt good inside. Heheh. If I recall, the last two flags they showed were Iraq followed by the United States.

I think the original video was way different. I heard on E! News that the original video involved her in some battlefield was it throwing a grenade and lighting up a smoke? I'm confused. But I know that the original video would have greatly offended the U.S. Armed Forces during the recent War in Iraq. Good thing Madonna herself, not anyone else working with her, made the right decision not to release that original video.

Of other songs, everytime I hear Jennifer Lopez's "The One" it makes me wish I was experiencing Sun, Sand, and Summer at a white sand beach. Surrounded by all my friends jamming to the music at the beach. I haven't been to a beach or swimming pool yet this summer.

That's all for now.

THE FRIDAY FIVE
It came kinda late this weekend, heheh.

And now for the very first time...

1. What was the last TV show you watched?
- I've been watching movies lately (Nutty Professor 2 on HBO). Other than that, I've been watching World News on CNN. The last show I've been watching (even if I've been watching TV today) was ANGEL on Studio 23 last night from 8-9pm. It's an episode about a ghost stuck in a ballet performance for a hundred years. I loved the episode. Angel finally confessed something to Cordy and Wesley was too late to confess he liked Fred (the lost girl, Fred isn't a guy).

2. What was the last thing you complained about and what was the problem?
- About an hour and a half ago when I was telling my mom "Mom, just get one of our family friends to drop us home. You can stay here and talk with our relatives, but Paul and I want to go home now.". My mom took 30 minutes to finally stand up and get a driver to bring us home. I was frustrated because I wanted to go home and surf since there was nothing much to do at my Uncle's lunch since we finished eating already. And my mom wanted to talk with the others the rest of the afternoon.

3. Who was the last person you complimented and what did you say?
- I thanked my classmate Jessica Fenol (Badge) for giving me a quote. We were sitting next to each other in Windward when suddenly I heard my txt-tone. I opened it and it was Badge. So I told her "Thank you for the message. Cool.".

4. What was the last thing you threw away?
- A plastic cup that I had three rounds of Coke in.

5. What was the last website (besides this one) that you visited?
- I'm doing the blog-run right now... I'm on my way to Starcast but the last website I visited was Xploda.

SPAGHETTI AND MANGO SHAKE
The Damage Report - Broadjourn Summer - End of Week #39/4

NOTE: A weekly summary of events and happenings I've experienced in and around La Salle.

"...midterm exams and destroyed roads..."

WHERE did the streets go?! The whole street from the Guard House of the on-campus dormitories all the way up to DPH and the Admin have been destroyed. Well, they're obviously going to install a new one, but it was a surprise. One morning only one side was destroyed so we walked on the other side. When we got dismissed from class we found no side to walk on. It's all brown and orange dirt.

VBH is also undergoing some changes. It's roof was removed and a new one is being installed.

Midterms took place this past week. Philosophy is slowly starting to make more sense to me. And in English102 the research paper continues into rough draft development. The midterm in English102 was very easy but the Philo103 exam was something else... the test was ok but I haven't been getting all the Philosophical concepts down correctly.

The exams were on Wednesday (Philosophy of Man) and Friday (English102) respectively.

Throughout the week we all surfed at ERS. We also started to pin down our summer plans. Ate Angge and I developed a 2-day visit of some churches in Metro Manila. May 6 and May 8, from Intramuros to Baclaran. After our classes on those days.

A Swimming trip to the coldsprings in Indang have also been planned this past week. Confirmation will be on the first two days of next week.

On Friday afternoon some of my classmates and I were invited by our 1st Year 2nd Semester Re-Ed102 professor, Ms. Marianne Planas, to go to her house inside Windward after our classes.

Shiela, Badge, Ara, Jhen, Eric, Joanna, Ate Angge, Maycee, Teenah, Jezire, Kate, Rona, Ayesha, and our new classmate in Broadjourn Enjun were present.

Some of my classmates got to cooking. Tasty homemade Pillsbury Biscuits. Spaghetti with really delicious sauce. And Mango Shake for everyone. It was a nice afternoon. I read some articles in the two NEWSWEEK magazines that were there. I also took some pictures using the camera I've borrowed from Jerson and I also used Eric's camera to get some more coverage and add some pictures to his own collection.

A few classmates went home (everyone on the Las Piñas-bound van) while the rest stayed and played some Scrabble. I didn't play but I just watched. Ms. Planas, Jezire-Badge, Eric "Dictionary" Salta, and Teenah. The others sat back and watched as well. I treated everyone to a 1.5 Liter of Sprite that Shiela joined me to buy.

And afterwards we all went home. Ms. Planas gave me a "teacher-exclusive" DLSU-D Calendar for 2003. I'm going to hang it up in my dorm. I miss having Ms. Planas as a professor. She was outstanding. She's the kind of professor that should be featured in a television documentary. Entitled "A Professor who uplifts the lives of her students."

That ends this fourth week of the Broadjourn Summer Term.

6] One movie that spooked you out? Ring 1 and Ring 2, than The Ring

Ten Things About Me Lately
(para ma-iba ang blog entry ko ngayon)

- I bite the straw when I'm drinking. (iono why)
- I eat my home meals inside my room. (dining room still in construction)
- I take four jeepnees, one baby bus, and one tricycle on a daily commute.
- On the way home I treat myself to a Pearl Cooler (Greenwich) at SM Bacoor before I continue onwards.
- I hate commuting (pollution, dust particles, noice) and mushrooms (reminds me of last 2 minutes of Hannibal).
- I don't like jeepnees. But I love Baby Buses.
- I have an additional P50 to my Summer Term Daily allowance compared to my regular Semester Daily allowance. (for commuting)
- I don't carry a bag with me these days. I am seen around campus holding my gray with blue handle binder.
- I never go from English102 to Philo103 without stopping by to get some kind of refreshment or snack on the way to my classroom.
- I'm wearing a black necklace with a cruxifix pendant, a brown semi-leather watch on my right wrist, and a silver ring from Baguio on my right hand, 4th finger.

After the Philo Midterm

I'm home again after the Midterm in Philo. I didn't do so well on that exam, but like always, the "double my efforts" begin the day afterwards. No assignments for tomorrow while the Midterm in Engl102 is on Friday. I have the rest of today to relax. We will be going Bowling on Friday. Than next week, maybe we can finally go swimming at a Cold Spring in Indang. I'm going to work on the target budget to help convince more people to go.

About "The Pages", I've decided to hold off and make them available shortly after I purchase a domain from Mobilehive.com. Sorry, it's just bad timing struck "The Pages". The Holy Week Internet-blackout towards my PC. Than the lack of time this past week to upload. And a problem because there's nearly 200 pictures in the "Galleries" alone which total up to 17 MB. Geocities has a limit of 15 MB. Yikes.

More than Expected

I was expecting Lance to come over early this evening and he did. When he miss called I proceeded outside to unlock the gate. And over the gate was a familiar face with bushy hair under a red cap. It was Jaydee! Than behind him next to Jaydee's maroon car was Enrico! And then as I was overwhelmed in surprise and tried to unlock the gate, I noticed Jed was also there. Where was Lance? Huh?

Lance showed up and now I had four guests over. I haven't seen Enrico, Jaydee, and Jed since Miss Atheneum 2003 last December. I've lost contact with Enrico since his land line changed. We went into my room and they looked at my pictures in college while I was entertaining Lance in scanning more pictures for his diskettes. We spent nearly an hour and a half just there in my room.

Enrico enters his first trimester of 2nd Year College at DLSU-M on May 26 as an Electrical Communications Engineering student.

Jaydee will join the MAPUA crowd on July 14 as a Civil Engineering student.

Jed (parang malabo sa intindi ko) remains in MAPUA. I'm confused because the 4th Semester only began on Monday, why is it I don't sense he has school these days when he came over? He's a Civil Engineering student.

There you go. Of course, Lance and I resume at DLSU-D in mid-June after we finish our Summer Terms and a 3-week Break.

I enjoyed seeing these guys again. It was crazy because I have a Philosophy of Man exam tomorrow and yet I felt like I was in High School again with my old HS friends. I wasn't prepared so I couldn't exactly treat my friends to dinner here. They left before Smallville began on Studio 23.

Lance stayed to watch Smallville with me (even if it's really late and he has to go home to Cavite City from here in Tanza). It was the episode entitled "Red" of Season 2 which involves Clark Kent being exposed to Red Kryptonyte making him an explosive personality. The scene where he kisses Lana Lang was just soothing! The chemistry between them is so good... that kiss looked delicious. ^_^

Lance left and as his friend I was worried because it's very late and he has a lot of kilometers on him before he gets home. I told him to "miss call" me when he gets home.

I have to review now for an exam tomorrow in Philosophy of Man. I'm not quite getting it no matter how hard I try and no matter how much I seem to read. Plus, with the visitors this evening I couldn't really concentrate. Good Night everyone...

Surfing Another Hour and Meeting another Cancerian

We're surfing for another hour. Heh heh. But this time we are all together! Kate, Jhen, Shiela, Ate Angge, Enjun, Jezire, Eric, Joanna, and Rona. Jezire's keyboard collapsed. That's news. And another kind of news right now is that I've finally met another male cancerian! (Enjun) I've never met a male cancerian in recent years. Wala lang. It's because I want to meet another Cancerian personality. I've met Cancerian girls the past few years like in the class there's Leah, Apple, Jonee, and of course Badge. But still, I've never met and encountered another Cancerian male. I want to know if it's just me or is it my sign that makes me over-sympathetic, sensitive, and moody.

Cancer's element is Water. Symbolic of the emotions, water signs need to give and receive. They thrive on the exchange of feelings. They need security and love to be wrapped in an environment of love and comfort. Truly a wonderful example of Yin receptivity, Cancer seems to absorb memories, feelings and psychic messages. Of course, they send back their own good vibes in the process. The cardinal' motivation energizes their strong ability to provide for others. Few work as hard and as tenaciously as Cancer. Without the balance of Yang assertiveness, however, Cancer's confidence can be a bit wobbly. After all, the Crab is so very sensitive to everything. Just as the sign's ruler, the Moon, goes through phases, Cancer often experiences mood-swings. Sometimes the desire to love results in giving too much. In such cases, the Crab can become over-protective or dependent. Balanced, the Cancer adds personal independence to his or her priorities.

New Classmates and New Blogs

Good morning. It's almost lunch time. I'm at ERS once again. I'm with a number of my classmates... first time we've all gone to ERS as a group since the 2nd Semester. With us by the way is our new classmate Enju, shifting in from a different course. We haven't shared a conversation yet but by hearing from my classmates and hearing from him as well at the table, he's Broadjourn. He's even taking up the required subjects such as Biological Sciences. Subjects that Joel should be taking now if he was serious into shifting into Broadjourn.

Emil came by, a classmate who has been forced to transfer into Nursing since Broadjourn isn't so "in demand". Sayang. We all saw he had Broadjourn in his blood in his nature of talking, joking, and hanging around. It's still a surprise, but it's an accepted one since we know we don't have any control over what's happening to him now. Good luck Emil in Nursing...

Kate is still fiddling with her blog. And I've made some discoveries like finding out my dorm mates from kuwait (aka in Abstropz, Penshoppe Boys) Karl and Brian have started blogs. It's this online community that's starting to progress again. I've premiered a print-out of the layout of PROJECT BJ6 and it's in full gear construction once I have more time on my hands to surf at home.

I'm next to my classmate Rona right now, she's on #3 while I'm on #4. She's looking at her HS Batchmates Yahoo! Group. Next to her on #2 is Joanna and next to Joanna on #1 is Eric. Yes, we got separated! On the other side of ERS is a whole line of Broadjourn classmates surfing. Reading their e-mails. Laughing at chain letters and images. Going to blogs. Going to forums. Going to their personal interests on the web.

Anyways, to end this I guess I should throw a big welcome to the incoming Broadjourn and who are striving to join the class and catch up with us. You're entering a section filled with so much variety at the same time we all have connections to one another so we don't break apart. This is a journey we'll all take together over the remaining three years of our College. WELCOME!!

THE OPENING CREDITS - PART ONE
An update with some of my friends lately

[Lance] - things have never been this steady. after rough roads in our high school. twists and turns. and having one year of each other as room mates in la salle. things have cleared up and i think we both have a good understanding of each other. we don't talk about this but it's written on the wall now. at the end of the 2nd semester, i realized i can count on lance in many ways compared to before. although we still have our differences, his new positive attitude and outlook really did boost how i see him today. i consider him one of my best friends. last seen with lance: getting outside of his car 11pm on Easter Night.

[Nikki] - it was really a pleasure to see nikki in person again. i've been frequenting her blog recently and it was fun catching up on stories. we spoke about many things when we last met during Erika's 18th Birthday in Imus. from Bryan to chem eng. she is currently enrolling at UP this week. last seen with nikki: outside her house around 10pm on Easter Night as I got into Lance's car.

[Joel] - i'm not sure what my eccentric buddy down at the Fort is doing lately. i'm having the impression he's bored at his family's base apartment. he calls and we talk on the phone. but it goes around in circles sometimes. i'm confused and disappointed because he didn't take summer classes. he has motives to shift into broadjourn and he didn't take summer classes. that's like shooting himself in the foot again. i tried to convince him but it didn't work. he will probably join abie and len if they shift into broadjourn. my advice to them is they wasted their chance in getting good slots in broadjourn. they might as well fight for ab comm instead because ab comm don't have a summer term. guys, you'll be irreg even more... last seen with joel: on the evening of april 4th when we arrived from Baguio to Fort Bonifacio. his parents didn't allow him to continue with us into Cavite that night when their driver drove Aldrich, Karl, Brian, and myself back into Cavite.

[Kate] - my classmate in broadjourn. we've been active in y! msgr. chat recently and in blogging. with jhen busy in teatro and usually always with athena, the closest girl i'm to in class is now probably kate. we joke during our online chats and we talk about anything ranging from our class to the latest episode of charmed and smallville. last seen with kate: in front of 7-11 mid-afternoon on monday as we parted ways for commuting home.

[Eric] - my classmate in broadjourn and admittingly the closest guy i'm into in class. we talk about music and websites and things related to the heraldo filipino. he's been to the beach so far, i've been to the mountains. we ought to change destinations because i'm dying to go to a beach. currently we are furnishing possible layouts for PROJECT BJ6. last seen with eric: we were riding on the same jeepnee and he got off at his stop just across the bridge between Imus and Bacoor.

[Joy] - g7 and psych major at UP. we met at Erika's 18th Birthday Party. we catched up on a few things but i did fail to ask her more about her classmate and friend jonathan. joy, we need to go out for coffee or something to finish our conversations. last seen with joy: on Easter Night as she was leaving with my HS batchmate Rom from the party since they had to go home early.

[Aldrich] - he's like really really far right now. well, not stateside like Bryan. but Aldrich is in Guam. he'll be returning in late May (i think) and I want to spend time seeing him with my classmate Rona. it became them, but then he had to leave the country. it was a fast thing sort of. heheh. to aldrich over there in guam, please oh please try and contact rona. she's carrying two cellphones for *gosh* sakes! i know you'll contact her... just don't give up. we all miss ya and don't forget what my txt said... if you don't return, you'll be hunted. hunted!! last seen with aldrich: on the acacia-lined avenue in La Salle during the first week of summer term. he was with karl while i was walking with my classmates.

That ends PART ONE... i gotz to go to sleep...

Kaya Pala - 436-9913 is the number

I've never been anymore bored the past few days. I was planning on spending the past few days of the recent Holy Week to reflect and to upload. As odd as that may sound, that's what my plan was. But my Holy Week started off last Wednesday night trying to connect to Pacific Internet, and it didn't work! The dial-up numbers were "out of service" and no one in our house could use the internet the past few days. It drove me nuts as I was just, and literally, staring at my desktop.

Anyways, the new dial-up number is 436-9913 for Pacific Internet Post-paid (plan) Users in Cavite. I have been dialling up 472-5588 and 472-5688 non-stop the past few days. Sheesh. I'm still angry at Pacific Internet for failing to address the sudden change of dial-up number. They have been a major inconvinience the past few days and I didn't like it at all. But since they've been reliable for 3 years... if you balance it and add in a little sacrifice... I won't go to Legal Measures. *joke*

I'm not sure if the number works yet in my house, cuz' i'm typing at ERS right now with Eric and Kate (two co-webmasters for the upcoming PROJECT BJ6).

***

Anyways it's now Monday again and so-begins five days of regular work at school. Midterms are already this week, very crazy. I've a lot to catch up on in Philosophy of Man. I'm slowly starting to understand it. It just took me by surprise how good my classmates are in this subject. I thought we were all tabula rasa when it came to Philo or something... but in class they keep reciting and I'm drowning in their words. Basta, ang galing nila sa Philo... kahit Broadjourn tayo. I guess I'm used to studying things directly, not so philosophically. ^_^

Lance said last night on the car ride home from Erika's 18th Birthday that he would enjoy being with my classmates for Philosophy since the topics relate to Love and stuff. I brushed that comment aside and laughed. But this morning, it came true. We had our first set of glances towards the part of philosophy that explains love. It's fun listening to classmates talk about their experiences... how interesting it is when you can relate to some of them.

Some of my classmates pay'd their fees so they can secure a permit. Our first exam though is on Wednesday (Philo) and than on Thursday it's Eng102. Speaking of Eng102, I can't wait to go to the library tomorrow and finish up some work with Ate Angge. Our topic is entitled "Wood and Stone: Philippine Church Architecture and Imagery". I'm interested, and Ate Angge is head of a Catholic Youth Group here... so I'm all for it.

***

We decided to go to ERS to surf. The first time I've surfed on the web in ages. I went to the Pacific Internet website to see what the *fudging* *heck* happened to them. They changed their dial-ups. I txt'd my brother and told him to try it... I told him to reply if it does work but he hasn't replied yet. I wonder if he got my msg.

That's all for now. I still have to walk backwards and finish up "The Damage Report" and "Carpe Noctem" of the past few days. Than I'd like to create a new post about how I am with some of my friends... a kind of post I haven't made in ages now... ^_^

ERIKA ENCHANTED AT EIGHTEEN
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Week #38/3

NOTE: A weekly post made before starting a week of studies at DLSU-D.

"...five days of compulsary summer classes lead this week's agenda..."

I'M not expecting much this week. The HF Year-End Seminar has been postponed and still I'm not sure if I'm included since there are limited slots and there are nearly 40 staffers and apprentice staffers for the HF. Malabo din ang information tungkol diyan so I'm going to "cancel" all expectations of being with the HF this summer.

The past few days have been very boring and I don't mean it in a bad sense to talk about the Holy Week. It's just it was the first time I had absolutely nothing to do at home. There was no internet to surf on and upload like my original plan (the links to "The Inside Pages" of Brodcst Msktir are supposed to be ready now). There was no radio (Magic 89.9) and there was nothing good on television. I watched Moulin Rouge three times, The Ring (Hollywood) once, and The Mummy Returns... nothing helped.

***

Anyways I'd like to dedicate this week's Carpe Noctem to a member of G7, Erika Carla Ungson. She is the first of the four girls in G7 to turn 18. We went to her house on Sunday evening. It was a semi-reunion of G7... unfortunately Bryan and Candy weren't able to attend. Lance, Erika, Joy, Nikki, Rom, Rachelle, Lorraine, and myself formed the A2K2 there and we were joined by fresh Atheneum graduate Kay.

We exchanged a lot of stories and chit chat. I spoke little I guess. I didn't want to explode into the scene with how my life is in La Salle. Lance, on the other hand, kept talking about his company in La Salle including the likings of the dormitory and the Penshoppe Boys (Aldrich, Karl, Brian...). I've been with Lance the past few months and I know everything of what he's talking about. I'm just not used to letting him spill it all at the table in front of our HS friends. I wanted to talk about "us" not the people we're with these days. It's just me.

Everyone looked fantastic and even if it wasn't a formal debut, the setting was pink and elegant. I didn't recognize Erika's garden. I thought we jumped into someone's big front lawn! It was night time and there were white christmas lights all around and they had catering. Good food... kaya lang I had just gone house to house earlier Easter Sunday in Julugan for the Fiesta so I was full. Ekai, the BBQ reminded me of delicious yaki-tori back from Japan. Mmmm...

We were seated on a round table with a "rose bush and candle" set in the center so you can't really see who's sitting on the opposite side of the circular table from you. I was next to Joy and Nikki. Anyways, the two of them will be enroling for classes on Monday. Rom and his little brother were with us too. Kay, Miss Atheneum 1999, and recent grad at Atheneum also joined us. Lance kept talking to Kay. Meanwhile, the twins were next to Lance and they were silent like usual. I miss these moments.

I told that to Nikki. It was like an episode of Dawson's Creek. They had Dawson's Creek-style music playing in the background and we were all talking at the table.

"Save a glass of coke for Bryan." I said.
"What would Bryan do if he was here?" I asked.

We entered the house and took some pictures before resuming to more chit chat. Erika had guests from DLSU-Manila, her former classmates in AB Literature. Erika by the way is transfering to BS Nursing at Manila Doctors'... leaving Joy and myself as the only Bachelor of Arts majors.

It was getting quite late so we had to leave. I followed Lance to ride with Nikki in going to Nikki's house in Metrogate Dasmariñas. Than we met with Lance's parents. Lance's sister Marchelle was at Nikki's house because Nikki's sister Denise was celebrating her birthday today. Lance's family took me home to Tanza. Thanks Lance!

To Erika, now 18... make it a great year now that you have a new direction in front of you. You'll meet new friends, once again, but always remember we are just right here if you need us.

To a week ahead of increased studying in Philo and Engl102!

A HOLY PROCESSION AROUND TANZA
The Damage Report - Broadjourn Summer - Ending Week #37/2

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.

"...offline."

MY first Holy Week as a College Student went by differently. I had classes for the first three days of the week. Maundy Thursday came by and then on Good Friday my classmate from High School, Rom, came over and joined us in the evening for the Procession.

The procession started near the side gate of the Church of Tanza. It went by Bgy. Poblacion and out towards Umboy and the Hi-way. We walked all the way down that Hi-way from Umboy until we took a turn at Jollybee and headed back into Tanza Bayan via the road that passes by Tanza National High School.

I didn't even get tired. We walked about three to four kilometers worth. We even had some pictures taken.

AN HOUR WHEN THE SUN WENT AWAY

From 6:40pm to just now (basically one hour), Brodcst Msktir experienced a severe technical difficulty. Heheh. Let's recall something my frustrated mind typed about an hour ago...

[the template crashed when my browser loaded an older version of "edit template" and i didn't know... so when i hit "publish" it published my "old template"... I've contacted Danielle and any possible friends of mine who have saved the Summer theme onto their PCs during their last visit. For the time being.... ugh...]

...anyways, good thing the undamaged blog was still saved in my brother's browser. We went to his user, and he loaded Brodcst Msktir offline and than I had the chance to copy my template HTML and re-install it here.

Wheeeeew. That beats it. I won't be uploading "The Inside Pages" tonight as I had hoped for. I will spend the rest of the night retouching the galleries and searching for errors. But after tomorrow's classes, it's a 4-day weekend.

Oh and by the way to juice things up... these galleries feature over 170 pictures relating to my life the past few months. So if you've been physically part of my life recently, than you'll find things you can relate to in these Galleries. And for those who can't relate, you can see what I've been up to the past few months. Heheh.

Oh no... summer went away from this blog...

[the template crashed when my browser loaded an older version of "edit template" and i didn't know... so when i hit "publish" it published my "old template"...]

I've contacted Danielle and any possible friends of mine who have saved the Summer theme onto their PCs during their last visit. For the time being.... ugh...

JEEPNEE TUESDAY

I'm back home on this hot Tuesday afternoon. Classes this morning went on as normal. Although for ENGL102 it was held in the Aklatan Emilio Aguinaldo because we had to research titles and topics that we would be doing for our future paper. In PHLO103 we had the continuation of yesterday's topic about Existenstialism which included a brief activity in which we competed with others.

Afterwards I joined Eric and Maycee and we all went to the Heraldo Filipino office. No one was there. The Year-End Seminar will be in Baguio City (as it was posted) not in Villa Escudero (as it was also posted). I'm wondering who's going. We're looking at the budget of HF. Hopefully we can all go. Or at least a vast majority will be able to go. It would suck if the people who went only numbered less than ten. Ngek. The new Editorial Board number more than ten. At least 30 should be able to go... as if I'm the Managing Editor handling this. But sa totoo lang, gusto ko pumunta kung pwede lang. Of course, with Eric and Maycee. The three of us need to be complete for an event one day. Let that day be in Baguio.

Speaking of Baguio, although we don't talk much about it, Jezire's trip to Baguio is still pushing through but next month. Next week we might be going to Los Baños for swimming aside from Jerson and my plan to search for a beach or swimming pool in the Tanza-Naic area.

An hour later Eric and I were finishing up lunch at McDo inside Robinsons Imus. We scrolled inside National Bookstore and than to Odyssey (i don't think it's an XL) where he bought Jason Mraz's "Waiting for my rocket to come" and I decided to finally buy myself a VCD copy of "Moulin Rouge" for P150. Roughly three dollars. *smirk on the face*

We left the mall and he got off at his stop in Bacoor. I continued into SM Bacoor and treated myself to an icy Pearl Cooler Melon flavor and walked out the front doors of SM Bacoor and crossed the hot street anticipating a nice big chirping babybus labeled "Naic Bacao Tanza" would be waiting.

I found nothing! I was looking at a "Naic Epza Salinas" and it frustrated me. That's the first time that's happened to me in recent day! Just when I was starting to praise the traffic system for installing lots of "Naic Bacao" babybuses, they do this to me. How can they do this to me! I'm not insane. I'm just joking.

I was like the only one standing that hot and highly-raised pavement. I waited for a few babybuses but they were all "Cavite City". Finally there was this jeepnee with only two or three people in the back and a mother and child on the front seat. It was a "Tanza Bacao" jeep. Heck. This would be the fifth jeepnee I've riden, and the fourth I've riden by myself today.

I had an icy-Melon Pearl Cooler in a Greenwich plastic, so that convinced me to just get into that Jeepnee when it passed by. And in a minute, we were already down the road.

Arrived in Tanza and took a Tricycle from McDo to my house. The heat was just intense. Got home removed my white polo and wiped all the sweat off and sprayed Axe like crazy. Why am I mentioning this? This is my daily routine when I get home. I refreshened myself with four ice cubes in a tall glass of Royal Tru-Orange.

Of Breaking things and Losing a Hankerchief

I've had so many close calls of being severely late to my first class the past few days. This Monday morning was no exception. I left the house 10 minutes before 7 o'clock in the morning and my "deadline" to set foot on Trece Martirez City on the dot at 7 o'clock has never been made. I re-calculated my morning commute and it demands I leave the house an hour and a half before class. I spend 20-30 minutes getting from Tanza to Trece (neighboring rural municipalities) and spend another 40-50 minutes getting from Trece Martirez City to Dasmariñas Bayan. Then another 10 minutes to get from Dasmariñas Bayan to DBB-C or De La Salle University - Dasmariñas.

Amazingly I've never been late to English class with exception to the first class last Wednesday. I arrive just about a minute before the Opening Prayer.

Well, on the way up the stairs earlier at MAH I felt my necklace suddenly un-clamp itself. I put my hand on my neck and noticed the necklace wanted out... it could no longer take the heat of Summer. I removed it as I entered class and noticed one of the two "metallic beads" were missing and that the clamp unbuckled from the black wire or whatever. Ugh. Next, I prepared to fasten my ID to the opening of my left pocket... when I closed the clamping thing, it suddenly snapped off. Ugh again.

After sharing a connotation on "Love" with the class exaggerating their reactions to what I said, I sat down and wanted to wipe the sweat off my forehead. Next thing I know... my hankerchief isn't in any of my pockets. It isn't in the Grey Binder. It isn't underneath the Grey Binder. It isn't underneath my chair or in the surroundings. It was gone! Nooooooo!!

I was disappointed instead of panic'd. I remember that on the way to La Salle on my last jeepnee (from Dasma Bayan), I was staring at my hankerchief. One of the two last hankerchiefs that survived my Senior Year High School. The hankerchief I lost was the dark gray with purple-ish and gray-ish linings. The last jeepnee I rode had the heavily tinted violet style windows... and the morning sun at Kadiwa shined through the windows and when I looked at my hankerchief under the violet lighting... it looked so fresh and glowing even.

I had no idea that was the final moment I would have with that hankerchief. I think I left it on the jeepnee when I got off at the Main Gate or when I passed through the Main Gate checking my pockets if my wallet and cellphone were still there.

TAKE ME TO GO SWIMMING
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Week #37/2

NOTE: A weekly post made before starting a week of studies at DLSU-D.

"Temperatures are still rising... the Swimming Pool is still waiting..."

THE swimming pool is the destination all set in my head. Three days of classes and two days of observance of the Holy Week are up next. I want to go swimming. I want to get a tan. I also want to go to the gym. So many outlooks and plans that I must put into motion if I want to get anywhere.

I'm thinking about starting to condition myself and return to a Home Workout System I had back in early 4th Year High School. Dumbells, Sit-ups, and Push-ups. I want to increase food in-take and start studying more about Nutrition. If all is set up, I can start early with a Gym Program for 2003. I'm sure my future room mate Alex and I will be going to the gym on school days next Semester.

Other than working out, recreation time! A high school friend of mine, Rom, called in. And we both agreed we wanted to go swimming somewhere. The thing is, where? My current classmate Jerson is already searching for a swimming pool or a beach resort that we can go to (as in, anyone like in JOU1-1). I've also asked Jerson to start looking around for T-Shirt printing workshops so we can start plans for the Broadjourn T-Shirt.

Back home, we are still waiting for my dad to return from Singapore. My dad is waiting for his replacement before he can leave his port over there.

I've been spending the past two days (the past weekend) finishing up the [Galleries] of this blog. I might be able to fully publish it next weekend since it'll be 4-days long. I was all thinking that by tonight I would be publishing "The Pages" of Brodcst Msktir. Everything is finished except four more galleries in the [Galleries] section. "Summer 2003", "The Dorms", "Beauties and the Bests", and "Family". Everything else ranging from the 1st Sem of JOU1-1 to the Heraldo Filipino to VPAPU to AB Comm Channel is all set.

I could have finished and uploaded at least 80% of the galleries, but I have assignments in Philosophy of Man and English102 to complete.

That's all for this weekend. *raises Palm Sunday orchids and waves them in the air*

SUN, SWEAT, AND LA SALLE
The Damage Report - Broadjourn Summer - Ending Week #36/1

NOTE: This is a weekly blog entry that summarizes a series of events of a finished week in and around La Salle.

"Trece, Trece, Trece... Dasma, Dasma... Area C, Kadiwa, La Salle sakay na!... SM, Zapote... Naic, Bacao, Tanza... dalawa pa!"

SEVERAL jeepnee rides and long hours on the road in-between DLSU-Dasmariñas and Tanza, Cavite had driven me up the insanity meter. I hated commuting more than ever. I was adjusting to making my hatred into useful experience instead. If the entire country used my favorite chirping Baby Bus than maybe the world didn't have to end now.

The compulsary Summer Term classes Broadjourn began last Tuesday. You can also read about Wednesday and Thursday.

Today we had another round of discussions in both subjects. In English102 we had to re-write a love letter that was loaded with cliches. It was a fun activity for such a hot and boring morning. We crossed the campus and had Philosophy at DPH. Things made sense considering we had hand-outs and the setting was organized. Except when our professor mentioned something like "Has anyone here ever doubted a doubt?" which sent heads spinning into confusion since she didn't repeat the question and continued rephrasing it until we got even more confused.

After both classes, people dispersed in different directions. I joined Tintin, Joanna, Shiela, and Jezire in going to Tintin's Apartment again in Dasmariñas Bayan. Without Jerson (who isn't taking Summer) and without Eric (went to SM Bacoor I think), I was the only guy to go with these girls.

I spent the whole afternoon in the apartment. They had interesting conversations ranging from Stories of the Supernatural (the classics) to their Love Lives (also a classic). I was overwhelmed by the heat of the afternoon that I felt like I wanted to collapse. We ate take-out from McDo at Tintin's apartment.

I commuted home with Joanna getting off near the Imus Palengke. From there I went to SM and ended up in Astrovision purchasing "The Ring" (English version) since I felt like buying a VCD movie to watch. I took a Naic Bacao baby bus from the front of SM Bacoor and got home around 8 o'clock in the evening.

At home I finished my 2nd McDo Meal of the day and watched a little television before heading online. I chatted with my classmate Kate for awhile. I also found out after signing up at Philippine Blog Awards (i was interested in meeting Filipino bloggers) that Brodcst Msktir joins the list as Nominated. I didn't expect it would be that fast or that automatic. My only goal was to mingle. Heheh.

The past week has been very tiresome. My dad is supposed to return any time and any day now, and I'm still dying to have a car and to finish learning how to drive. I hate commuting. It just adds stress. And to say it's a hundred degrees Faranheit out there these days.

I'm making this one short since I have been keeping this blog pretty much posted this past week with day-by-day reviews. I want to spend this weekend fixing up my room before my dad gets here from his port in Singapore and I want to finally finish up the 9 galleries I've promised. Together with all "The Pages" like Profiles, FAQ, Phase Plates, etc.

Title in Review: It should be "Sun, Sweat, and Sand" but we all should know that this Summer won't totally escape from La Salle. I want to go to the beach and eat barbeque...

BACK TO GOOD OL' SM BACOOR

I just completed Day 3 of this compulsary Summer Term. It was the first actual day of the lectures and the first actual day both Professors showed up for their classes. English 102 is lively and with my mind clear of my fear of numerical formulas and scientific theories, I can now breathe and give all my subjects my very very best from now and onwards.

However, 30 minutes into the first full-pledged lecture in [Philosophy of Man] you would find me dozing it off for a few seconds. I was "game" to study Philo but I wasn't prepared that it could possibly be a sleeper-subject. You know. A subject where the Professor could talk on and on and when you miss two or three words of her discussion the whole thing falls apart.

Somewhere between the General Forms of Existencialism some Legend of Sisiput or something like that, I got lost. The words made sense at first, but the hot temperature (read: 100 F now in Manila) made me wish I was at a beach with Nikki, Bryan, a few classmates and Aldrich. I imagined sipping on this tall ice cold glass of Pomelo and next thing I know my head jolts up. I had fallen asleep. I looked slightly to my left to see if Eric noticed or to my right to see if Christian could have noticed, then I looked up at the Professor as she continued to talk.

My goal now is to "get into the mainstream". To not swim underneath the classroom scene. To surf on the waves. If in any way I have the chance to say something, I will. If I can interact in the discussion (if the classroom is reacting) then I will do so more than ever just to keep my eyelids open.

After class I ran into Basil and Allen (dorm mates) near the dorms, which aren't in my possession for the time being. I found out that the Heraldo Filipino's Year End Seminar might be in Baguio on April 25 to 27. BAGUIO?! If Jezire's trip next week is still pulling through, and if I'm included in the Year End Seminar... that would make THREE TRIPS TO BAGUIO in one month. That's insane!

Speaking of Baguio, I got my first set of pictures developed. They're not so bad. Of course, those stolens that Brian took really suck but seeing my best friend Joel sitting on a horse looking lame and bored made me laugh. I'll get them up in my galleries this weekend.

I ate with my classmates Eric, Kate, and Emil at SBC and we went to the Stalls to Photocopy some assignment papers. Jerson, Ayesha, and Ara had joined us. Than, we all went home.

Eric, Jerson, and I were in a Zapote-bound jeepnee. The first time the three of us were in a Jeepnee at the same time. Eric got off at his stop just a kilometer past the Imus Palengke. Jerson and I went into SM Bacoor and I picked up my Baguio pictures from Island Photo. I met my mom, brother, and driver at Burger King and Jerson left.

Somewhere along browsing the mall, Tom Chen, a recent graduate of my High School, passed by. He's going to DLSU-M taking up BSM. I thought it was Business Management (Tom is into businesses since HS... heheh) but he said BSM is Mathematics. So he's taking up Education? I affirmed "I heard you guys are the Taft bunch." and he said "Yep. We have the highest graduating status yata yata yatta."

Well, they can go to Taft and become Lasalistas. People who go to breezy Dasmariñas become Lasalyanos. Heck. ANIMO LA SALLE pa rin. I won't argue.

We went walking around the mall. Mostly just following my mom as she went everywhere just looking for something she might like. We went to the Supermarket and I bought a Pearl Cooler from Greenwich since a commercial on Magic 89.9 made it so tempting to enjoy one during the hot weather.

We went home afterwards.

***

I still hate commuting. I did look at the Drivers' Co. place on the 1st floor of SM Bacoor. We inquired. P2,500 for 5 hours. Woah. I confirmed I could get a non-professional Drivers' License once I've held onto a Student License for at least a month. I can study how to drive. But drive what? There's no car to drive. Yet...

About the Brodcst Msktir "The Inside Pages" opening date...

About "The Pages" of Brodcst Msktir, I'm going to complete it and upload all the pages this weekend. I'm sure about the other pages since they are ready, but the only section that's incomplete are the [Galleries]. That's the biggest and hardest part of "The Pages".

English102 is added and Trece can bite the Dust

I hate commuting and today didn't make anything easier. I basically circled a whole portion of our province just to get to DLSU-D and back again. I took the Trece way to school this morning for ENGL102 at 0800 hrs... and on the way home I took the SM Bacoor way. I think I passed by six towns in two different districts. I want to finish learning on how to drive a car... and I want to have a car...

Anyways today was Eric Salta's 18th Birthday. But it felt like we were the only ones excited about it! Haha. Joke lang Eric. Today was the first day of the final schedule of the classes for JOU1-1's compulsary Summer Term. We didn't have a [Philosophy] class earlier. Classmates that enrol'd in a different timeslot for ENGL102 have decided to join us in the 0800 to 1000 hrs slot. Meaning, classes run from 0800 to 1200 every weekday. One nice and hot half-day.

After class, we went to ERS but they went offline around 20 minutes into the surf. Bad trip. So I couldn't post to my blog from there. We left for Tin Tin's Dorm at Dasma Bayan and then we ate at Jollibee Bayan. I've noticed now that its summer, we're no longer complete. Jerson Arona (from Tanza as well) and Cindy Amadure won't be taking their Summer terms. And since our class isn't together all the time now, we're clustered up into different groups for the time being.

I dropped by SM Bacoor and found out that the SM Bacoor route home in comparision to the Trece route home was much more lively. Passing by SM enables me to drop films, buy things, and go home on my favorite native form of transportation... the chirping Baby Bus! No wonder Jerson takes the SM Bacoor way back in Freshmen Year proper. I might decide on taking the SM Bacoor way from now on since the Trece way is boring and is all jeepnees and no fun.

That's all for the 2nd Day of Summer Term. Off we go into Day 3...

DAY ONE of the Broadjourn Summer Term

It was the first time I commuted to DLSU-D from our house in Tanza. My estimated one-hour tops trip turned out wrong. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to that campus from my house. And to top that, there's no traffic! It's nothing but endless fields and rolling hills, dust and debris, and burning mid-morning sunlight. I hated it. I wish I had good driving skills. I wish I had a Driver's License. I wish I had a car. It was a perfect route to practice driving. A perfect time to use for driving. Driving to campus and driving back home.

My ambition was just that. Hopefully by my 2nd Year Summer, I'm not practicing how to drive. I'm driving already. I'm hoping by the 2nd Semester of 2nd year, I'm driving a car going from Point A to Point B.

It takes three rides to get to the campus from my house. First, I have to walk across the sub-division to the main road. Next, I have to wait for a Trece jeepnee. I pay P9 to get off at the Trece Sakayan. Thank God for the Trece Sakayan! You could go almost anywhere from there (Dasma Bayan, Imus Palengke, Indang, Coastal Baclaran, etc.).

Across rolling hills and industrial estates, I pass Nikki's Metrogate and arrive at Pala-Pala. From Pala Pala the jeep continues into the heart of Dasmariñas Bayan. There, I board a 3rd Jeep going to "AREA C" or "AREA F". Pay P4.

I stumble out of a jeepnee in front of the Main Gate at La Salle. The fresh Gputz that came out of his house an hour and thirty minutes ago in Tanza is now this wrecked Gputz walking past the Main Gate of La Salle.

LATE FOR PHILOSOPHY

That's what happened this morning. I was attending my first "Philosophy of Man" class at DPH 206 (center of the University, far from all the gates) which would be from 1000 to 1200. I left the house at 0900 thinking I'd make it in time. I arrived quarter to 1100 hours.

I walked past the dormitories inside the campus. I looked over the medium-high wall and fence and glanced at a hallway that I used to walk on.

I made my way into DPH and saw my classmates sitting on the chairs. I made my way in. The professor was a woman wearing glasses and she was in the middle of introducing Philosophy to the class.

I sat down next to William on the other side of the classroom. The weather was extremely hot and the depressive setting of DPH didn't make things easier.

The professor continued her discussion. She included some light humor in her discussion... but the heat was just so intense in the room I could barely make myself laugh. I've had a cold the past few days so I was dealing with it in my corner of the classroom.

We got dismissed and we all broke apart. I followed classmates towards Square Canteen and it was cram-packed. We headed off-campus and we ate at Georjops. The "boarding-house" style eatery walking distance from the Main Gate. They always have Inihaw na Liempo there. I enjoyed a Mango Shake (for the heck of it) and we had some pictures taken for the record.

THE WAITING GAME AGAIN

We returned into La Salle and spent the next few hours fixing up our enrolment for ENGL102. We waited for them to open the class, and when they opened it, we had to get the details for our Add/Drop Form. We waited behind the Admin and enjoyed some "chikahan" and basically we just made "tambay". Jhen came by with Athena. Athena had the Jennifer Lopez look the whole day. When Athena smiled and we didn't really hear what she was saying, Jhen's loud voice would proclaim in native tongue "Athena is looking for an air conditioned room."

We all laughed because Athena was wearing long-sleeves and her hat looked like something you'd wear at an air conditioned bar and restaurant. She looks ready for the Club scene and not really for enrolment. She looked nice today and it wasn't a big fuss, but Jhen's unending comments and jokes kept the mood lively during the heat.

At one point, we were all seated behind the Admin on the chairs. We were already finished at the Admin but we just didn't move from our seats. The heat was just killing us.

"Terra-lets..." someone would say. A few people would sit up slightly and then fall back onto the chair.

OPENING UP SOME CONVERSATIONS

We finally broke free of this and headed for the breezy CBA building, the biggest and most beautiful building on campus. There, I had my first conversation with Jericho. Jericho is a member of the Atheneum Class of 2001. He's an English speaking person in that batch, but I never had connections and conversations with him ever. Not during High School, and not during the past year.

So he's a Rad Tech (RT) student under the College of Science. He's entering 3rd Year now. He was with his girlfriend there sitting on the side of CBA. My personality has adapted the "approach" strategy now rather than that "shy away" thing. If in High School I saw him, I would have ignored him and not talk. But now, he was right there in front of me. We're no longer in High School. I'm an incoming 2nd Year BROADJOURN student and he's an incoming 3rd Year RADTECH student. We both live in different worlds' now away from that Martial Law Quadrangle of my High School.

So, I approached him and we exchanged some talk about life lately in College.

We waited in CBA for quite awhile. We submitted our forms and had to wait for another hour or so to get our new registration forms. I visited the E-House (on-campus dormitory lobby) to meet Aldrich, but he happened to have left just a moment before I got there. Bad timing. But I took advantage of the situation and decided to have a conversation with Sister. Sister and I have had conversations before, but nothing so serious or more personal. I got some neat details.

- 2 Buildings are now fully booked for next year's On-campus Men's dormitory. Woah.
- You can automatically upgrade a P2,500 unit into a P2,800 air-conditioned unit.

STOPPING BY THE OFFICE

At the Heraldo Filipino, AB Com and HF editors Ate July and Kuya Marthy were surprised by the subjects being taken up by Broadcast Journalism. They saw my Curriculum Flowchart. I have my own likings of AB Communication subjects like [Media Production], [Advertising], and [Performing Arts].

At the HF, Eric and I read we have Invocation assignments for the Freshmen Year Orientation. I'm assigned for May 24, but I believe it is actually May 26 since there's no orientation for May 24 and no one is assigned to May 26. On May 26, I'm going to be reading a prayer for the orientation of the College of Nursing or students under Nursing.

Maycee and Eric were assigned to the HF Booth for Recruitment. I want to join them so we'll be complete for once.

YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY LOADED

Finally, we returned back to the CBA Building and received our new Reg Forms. The final version of it. The two subjects that we need to be taking up this Summer are now successfully loaded. [Communication Arts and Skills 2 aka ENGL102] from 0800 to 1000 and then [Philosophy of Man] from 1000 to 1200. 0800 to 1200 are my classes from Monday to Friday until late-May.

THE PHILOSOPHER'S REG. FORM
Carpe Noctem (Seize the Night) - Week #36/1

NOTE: A weekly post made before starting a week of studies at DLSU-D.

"Something is very wrong with the scheduling. Where does the blame go?"

TOMORROW is Tuesday, April 8 and so begins the Broadjourn Summer Term. It's supposed to be organized and all set but another flaw "somewhere" has made things more cloudy. So cloudy it makes me frustrated. So frustrated it ignites sentiments of name-calling towards our very own Administration or Faculty or Programmer or what-ev-er.

What am I talking about? The curriculum of Broadcast Journalism includes a Summer Term from 1st Year to 3rd Year. Unlike our AB Communication counterparts, Broadjourn has two subjects listed every summer in-between year levels in our curriculum. Any newbie would probably argue, but as students dedicated to our course we've learned to adapt and adjust to such an "odd" curriculum. In comparison to truly busy courses (e.g. Nursing, Physical Therapy), Broadjourn should be able to squeeze those Summer Subjects back into the two Semesters in 2nd Year, 3rd Year, and 4th Year. But that's not how it goes, so we can't really argue about it.

Ok. So if it is accepted that Broadjourn has a Summer Term, why does it feel like we're fighting for our own slots?! Wait. It doesn't feel like that. It IS like that already. We are fighting for our own slots. My classmates and I are fighting for slots alongside those who have failed these subjects and those who plan on advancing these subjects. Why must we fight for slots of a Curriculum that already tells us these subjects are part of our Flowchart. These subjects should automatically and properly be reserved for JOU1-1.

It doesn't end there. The Curriculum Flowchart of any course is like the Heart and Constitution of it. Why is ours filled with oddities and why is ours not quite updated? Our Flowchart still says "YESP" and "ROTC", when those subjects were eliminated University-Wide if not Nation-wide already! Why isn't there a clear explanation of these errors? For the Broadjourn Program Council, I ask you bring life to Broadjourn and get it some decent respect from "who-ever" is in-charge.

So, a busted old Flowchart for a still gleaming and brand new course such as ours remains standing. Let's set aside these "errors" and analyze it even more.

"Literature of the Philippines" and "Philosophy of Man" stand as the 1st Year Summer subjects in our beloved Curriculum Flowchart. We took "Literature of the Philippines" in the 1st Semester to replace "English 101", for some reason. (Due to lack of professors if the whole Freshmen body of the University took English 101 in the same semester)

So, the adjustments were made. "Litt" was in the 1st Sem. "Eng101" would start in the 2nd Sem. And the result would have "English 102" and "Philo" for 1st Year Summer. It's like the three slid gracefully.

Wrong.

The Admin and the Communication Arts Department Faculty seem to have had mis-communicated. The Admin reserved "Litt" and "Philo" for our Summer Term this year. "Litt" is something we all finished back in the 1st Sem. Wait. Did the Admin even reserve "Litt"? Does the Admin really "reserve"? Why is it we ran out of slots even in Philo?

Why was it we were all running for slots last Friday during Enrolment for incoming 2nd Year students? April 4 was our assigned date for enrolment.

Some of my classmates have enrolled in both subjects, "Philo" and "English102". They did it because they really squeezed themselves alongside those from other courses. Our Class President had to speak to the CAD Chair just to get them to open up an additional "Philo" for JOU1-1. Teenah did so, and a new class for "Philo" was opened up and shouldn't be a problem for my classmates and me.

"Philo" was the only subject I got to enrol in last Friday.

"Eng102" on the other hand is to be dealt with tomorrow. My Philosophy class is from 10am-12pm Monday to Thursday at DPH 206. The English 102 issue is to be sorted out afterwards.

Tomorrow will also be the first time I'll be commuting alone from Tanza, Cavite to the DLSU-D Campus. I know the way. I hate commuting alone because "it gives me depressing thoughts". But I will pull through.

No School today (Monday) and No School on Wednesday. Meaning classes are only tomorow and on Thursday. Unless "Eng102" bids for a Friday session. I'm seeing nothing on the radar right now. Just a little stress with the mistakes and errors that plague the Summer of my University. I believe in DLSU-D and I know it's improving every year. But "the little things" like this... especially the seemingly unorganized methods the CAD gives towards JOU1-1 is a pain in the ass. We, as a class, do our best to fix the mess by informing the proper authorities and asking the right questions. But where do the heads of our course or our department or our entire University take us? Ayusin nila ito. AYUSIN!

WALKING IN THE CLOUDS

Tuesday, April 01, 2003

I've decided to shift out of Broadjourn to pursue another dream.

APRIL FOOLS! If not Broadjourn, it would be Communication. If not Communication, it would be Psychology. I don't have a heart big enough to add Computer Science. I love Computers, but I don't want to study it all the time.
